COMMITTEE TO ELECT RON CAMPANO
RENSSELAER COUNTY SHERIFF
After much consideration, recently retired New York StateTrooper Ronald “Ron” J.Campano is announcing hisintentions to run for theNovember 08, 2011 RensselaerCounty Sheriff’s election. At the current age of 60 yearsold, Campano was forced intoretirement last December fromhis job as a Senior Investigatorwith more than 37 years with theNew York State Police. CurrentlyNew York law mandates that alltroopers retire by the age of 60.Considering himself a viable
candidate, Mr. Campano has put together an “exploratorycommittee” comprised of community leaders, members of lawenforcement, close friends and advisors to take a look at themost practical approach to a successful campaign. Mr. Campanois currently registered as an Independent.Campano believes that he can introduce new policy andprocedure within the Sheriff’s department that will saveRensselaer County taxpayers millions of dollars over time.Vowing to lead by example, Campano insists that when he iselected to the Sheriff’s position that he will “give back the firsttwo months of his annual salary” to the hard working taxpayersof Rensselaer County.Campano adds, “I believe that I could manage the position asSheriff and would act on more of a community basis by givingback more services to the county taxpayers, and putting prideand respect back into the department.”“Being a Trooper in New York for over 37 years has afforded methe personal and professional connections on a local, state andnational level that will guarantee my successful run for thisoffice. I have had a lot of good people willing to do anything forme to make this happen, and I look forward to the opportunityand the challenge.”
Ron Campano currently liveswith his wife Patti in West SandLake, New York and has twogrown children Robert andTricia; and has one wonderfulgrandson Andrew.Any person or group whowishes to be involved in thecommittee to elect RonCampano for the office ofRensselaer County Sheriffshould contact Ron directly at(518) 712-9529 or go to hiswebsite atwww.RonCampano.com

JIMINO ANNOUNCES 2010 COUNTY
AUDIT RESULTSTroy-Rensselaer Executive Kathleen M. Jimino recently reportedthe results of the County’s 2010 independent audit conducted byDrescher and Malecki LLP who found no material weaknesses ininternal controls or accounting practices. Drescher and Malecki LLPalso noted that the County has continued to improve its fiscalposition even in the tough financial times. The County ended 2010with a surplus of over $600,000, while also setting aside $3 million topay for future increases in pension costs. The audit also recognizedthe improvement of the unencumbered fund balance, i.e. rainy dayfund, which has grown to $9.7 million.“While I am pleased withthese results and want to commend our County employees anddepartment heads for their good stewardship of taxpayer dollars, Iknow we cannot rest on our laurels. I remain concerned about thecontinuation of the cost shifts and increases in state and federalmandates that jeopardize not only every program and serviceprovided at the local level, but also the ability of the residents ofNew York to continue to be able for afford to live in New York. TheState’s fiscal shell game has driven New York’s local taxes to thehighest in the nation, and without true mandate relief by the state ofthe costs they force counties to pay, I fear all non mandated servicessuch as the paving, plowing, and patrolling of our streets, as well asthe services we provide to our seniors and veterans, will no longerbe available as we will be forced to cut them so that we can continueto pay the State’s bills,” concluded Jimino.

SUPERVISOR HERRINGTON TO SEEK
RE-ELECTION
Proven Record of Low Taxes and Open GovernmentCiting a proven record of cutting taxes, improving servicesand providing a transparent and open government forBrunswick residents, Supervisor Phil Herrington announcedhis plans to seek re-election this November.“During the past four years, we have worked hard to keeptaxes down while not only providing the same services, but inmany cases better and more efficient services,” said Herrington.“Just as many of our residents have tightened their budgetsduring this economic downturn, so too has the town. Overthe past four years, my administration has worked tirelesslyto identify cost-cutting measures while still providing top-notchservices.”In recent years, the town has improved its bond rating fromBAA to A2, a sign of Brunswick’s increasing fiscal health. Inaddition, capital investments have saved taxpayer dollars, such as the purchase of a paver currently operated by townemployees who pave roads at a significantly reduced costcompared to outside paving companies.“My administration has worked aggressively to secure grantmoney to offset the tax burden,” added Herrington. “Grantshelped provide solar panels for Town Hall, construct a newbridge and purchase new equipment.”The Town received a $30,000 grant to provide a power study, which helped lead to a $187,000 grant to purchase solar panelsfor Town Hall. Once installed, the solar panels will cut theTown’s energy bill by 20% annually. The Town also secured afederal grant for $1.5 million to install a new bridge on WhiteChurch Road. The Herrington Administration has both literallyand figuratively opened the doors to government. Town Hallopened in 2005 and measures such as a new personnelemployee handbook and an updated comprehensive planopened the governmental process to residents. As Brunswick Town Supervisor, Herrington has put forward 11budgets without raising taxes. “I am proud of my record andI want to continue my fiscally conservative efforts for theresidents of Brunswick as we continue to provide new services, like the Farmer’s Market, while keeping taxes low.”
