• Take 14-17 hours of classes, usually with only 4 academic courses of 3-4 semester hours.

• You are required to take at least 1 Honors course beyond Honors Academic Writing and BGS your first semester. Students not taking HONS 110 must take 2 Honors classes beyond BGS.

• Take no more than 2 Honors classes beyond Honors BGS.

• Start with: (1) Academic Writing (2) Math (3) Science and (4) Foreign Language. Unless you have completed one via AP/IB, or dual credit, you should register for 3-4 of these.

• Apply your special interests, AP or IB credit, and intended major to this basic framework.

• Most merit-based financial aid at the CofC requires students to complete 30 credit hours and maintain a 3.0 GPA each year

• For South Carolina students, this is also true of Palmetto and Life Scholarships

• Students who (1) declare a major in math, the natural sciences or computer science and who (2) complete 14 hours of math and science as a freshman can apply for a Palmetto Enhancement

• Go to Education Center Room 214 (ECTR 214) at your scheduled appointment time for advising

• During your advising you will register for your classes on MyCharleston

• Please know your MyCharleston login/password information and the answers to your security questions

• Review the advising information that you’ve received.• If applicable to you, take the foreign language

placement exam and/or math placement exam online this afternoon if you have not done so already

legal name, CWID number, and subject “Orientation PW”. The helpdesk will reset your password within 24 hours.

• Know your My Charleston login/password information and the answers to your security questions.
