Defining Cloud
Cloud is a new consumption and delivery model inspired by consumer internet services.
Cloud exhibits the following 5 key characteristics:
1. On-demand self-service 2. Ubiquitous network access3. Location independent
resource pooling4. Rapid elasticity5. Flexible pricing models
Virtualization ServiceAutomation

SmartCloud Monitoring will help reach Service Levels, Compliance and Automation
1
VISIBILITY CONTROL AUTOMATION
Control: Optimize Workload placement through recommendations
minimizing server and licensing costs. Manage
compliance through effective cloud policy.
Automation: Remediation of situations through automated
actions.
Visibility: Track cloud service levels &
performance, and predict cloud problems before clients are impacted.

VISIBILITY CONTROL AUTOMATION
Gaining visibility is the first step to taking control of your virtual environments. IBM's SmartCloud Provisioning Image Library gives hypervisor administrators visibility into their images scattered across multiple virtualized and cloud environments and provides them with:
•Vulnerability Management - IBM SmartCloud Provisioning allows users to search for images that contain or don’t contain particular software ensuring vulnerability exposures are contained.•Image Consolidation –Image Consolidation can significantly reduce storage and maintenance costs.• Configuration Drift Detection –IBM SmartCloud Provisioning analyzes the bits on disk to detect changes without interfering with the guest OS. No agents are required inside your images. •Version control –IBM SmartCloud Provisioning maintains version chains and family trees that help you understand their lineage allowing you to take control over current and future virtual deployments. •Software License Management –IBM SmartCloud Provisioning provides insight into software that is installed on all instances (running or not) including master images enabling you to reduce your licensing exposure.
