We, in embracing our history which rises from our roots, have started to work in 2015 in “Mekteb-i Tıbbiye-i Şahane” building which was constructed as the first Medical School building by “Abdülhamid Han II”. 114 years ago, with the pride and responsibility of bringing our country, humanity and health sciences to the future.

We made the grand opening of our university in our exclusive building, which removes all the obstacles on the way of our students and our precious academicians’ education while offering new horizons for them.

The University of Health Sciences aims to rank as the world’s top universi-ties with its contribution to science and education.The University of HealthSciences is going to enable researches and studies in the field of health as well as help in carrying the knowledge from the present to the future by exploring the deep roots of medical sciences.

Our university contributes in raising the standards of the Research and Training Hospitals under the Ministry of Health with which affiliations have been made. It enables the Research and Training Hospitals to utilizefrom the university’s opportunities, gives a chance to the academicians to gain employee personal rights they desire and contributes by providing them the opportunity to act with the same academic discipline by including them under the university’s existence.

The building of our university was built as the first medical school to give medical education and was commissioned by Abdülhamid II. The construction began in 1894 and was completed in 1903. The grand opening of the building took place on 6th November 1903, which was the birthdate of Abdülhamid II.

The architectural design of the building, which started its education as Mekteb-i Tıbbiye-i Şahane, belongs to Alexandre Vallaury and Raimon-do D'Aronco, who were very prominent architects at their time. The building is in harmony with Haydarpaşa Military Hospital and Selimiye Barrack and was built on an area of 80000 m2. It has a rectangular inner court which is surrounded by hallways with a 54000 m2 const-ruction site.

Mekteb-i Tıbbiye-i Şahane was a Military Medical School between1903-1909, and had functioned as a Civil Medical School from that day onwards as well. In addition to having an Ottoman faculty of medicinewithin Mekteb-i Tıbbiye-i Şahane, it also contributed in training pharmaceutics, with its botanical garden and medicinal herbs.Veterinary School was just in the thereabouts. Across it is the Haydarpaşa MilitaryHospital which was used as a training hospital for students. Connection was established to the school building with culverts and a rail system.Providing education in German, French and Turkish; this medical school had very precious politician and scholar graduates.

Until 1933, it provided service as a School of Medicine. Between 1933-1983 it functioned as Haydapaşa Highschool. In 1983 it was gi-ven to Marmara University, serving as an education complex whichincluded the Faculty of Medicine.

Previously assigned to Marmara University, Haydarpaşa Complex was given to The University of Health Sciences as the first and only healththemed public university, by the law no 6639 which went into effect on 15th April 2015 by being published in the Resmi Gazete.

Our university provides education in Mekteb-i Tıbbiye-i Şahane, Ankara Gülhane and Somalia complexes to form a bridge between the past and the future in line with its foundation mission.

with our many centers including the Scientific Research Projects and Medical Design and Production Center.

The work on construction of “the Health Technocity” related to development of product and material including health software,vaccines studies, production of drugs, health counselling servi-ces and bio-medical engineering services has been started by our university. For the construction of the Technology city, 40 acres ofland has been allocated in the Pendik Ahmet Yesevi district.

The exclusive responsibilities and authority has been given toour university at home and abroad by law. Within this scope our university is a pride for representing our country successfully ab-road and paves the way for a university with a different vision. Our university will soon become an international attraction center and training base.

While carrying out these activities, it is never compromised from the fact that our university is a self-governing university which depends on corporation with fellows and gives the priority to aca-demic freedom in the line of transparent, accountable rules.

Our university will keep contributing in taking the required steps for the future of our country while keeping to the mission of the "Mekteb-i Tıbbiye-i Şahane" building and the mission which was given to us by this historic fact.
