The abbreviations used in this pattern are standard abbreviations. You can find them on the Support page atagnes.kutas.ch.

    Notes

    Sloped bind-off

When shaping the armholes, the shoulders and the neckline, the edges will be smoother if you use thefollowing technique. Dont work the last stitch on the last row before a bind-off row, leave it on the needle andturn. Slip the first stitch on the bind-off row purlwise to the right-hand needle (there are two stitches now onRH needle), then lift the unworked stitch over the slipped stitch and off the needle. This is the first bound-offstitch on the bind-off row. Continue binding off (if necessary) as usual.

    Decreasing in pattern

While decreasing or binding off at the neck edges, you will have to decrease in lace as well. Make sure that thenumber of increased and decreased stitches within the lace pattern stay the same.HELP ON PAGES 12-13 (tutorial + charts).

    Blocking

Let pieces soak for at least 10 minutes, press out the excess water and pin out pieces to measurements. Please note that the lace pattern can make the pieces significantly shorter before blocking!

How can you lengthen the body if you want to?

As the button band is knit separately and in pattern, if you want to lengthen the body, you can do it thefollowing way:

Knit 14 more rows up to the armholes. Place these extra rows evenly in the following way: work thebody increases and decreases every 16throw 3 more timessinstead of every 14th row more 3 timesand work2 more rows even between the decreases and increases than stated in the directions. The body will beabout 4 cm longer. CO 101 stitches for the button band, repeat the pattern 10 times instead of 9 andmake 9 button holes instead of 8.

Knit 28 more rows up to the armholes. Place these extra rows evenly in the following way: start thedecreases two rows later than stated in the directions, work the body increases and decreases every 18throw 3 more timesinstead of every 14th row 3 more timesand work 2 more rows even between the decreasesand increases than stated in the directions. The body will be about 8 cm longer. CO 111 stitches for thebutton band, repeat the pattern 11 times instead of 9 and make 10 button holes instead of 8.

    ecreasing Lace

When you decrease in lace, the most important thing is that the number of increased and decreased stitches within the lace chart remainthe same. Now Im going to show you how it works decreasing the Horseshoe Chart stitch by stitch. The bound-off stitches aremarked dark grey.

    1. The chart before binding off looks like this. Now, we aregoing to BO stitches at the right side lets see what happens.

    2. Lets BO 1 stitch. I usually leave 2 knit stitches at the edge tomake seaming or picking up stitches easier, therefore I replace theyo with a knit stitch in row 1. However, this means that I have1 increase less in the chart - and as the number of increasedand decreased stitches have to remain the same, I turn the ssknext to the yo in row 1 into a knit stitch as well.

    3. Lets BO one more stitch. The first yo in row 3 would be only1 stitch away from the edge therefore I turn that yo and thessk next to it into knit stitches (remember, the ssk has to bereplaced with a knit stitch as well so that the number ofincreased and decreased stitches within the pattern remain thesame).

    4. BO 1 more stitch. Same thing as before this time in row 5.

    5. BO 1 more stitchIn row 7, same thing as before. But take a

look at row 1 as well! The yo would have been too close to theedge it has been turned into a knit stitch. To maintain thenumber of stitches within the pattern, the sk2p has been turnedinto ssk(to decrease only 1 stitch there instead of 2).

    6. BO 1 more stitch the yo and ssk in row 9 will turn intoknit stitches AND the yo in row 3 will turn into a knit stitchand we replace the sk2p with an ssk.

    7. BO 1 more stitch

    8. BO 1 more stitch

    9. BO 1 more stitch

    10. In the next step, the ssk-s of the center line would be tooclose to the edge, therefore they have to be replaced by knitstitchesand in order to maintain the number of stitches, theyo-s left from them have to turn into knit stitches as well.

    11. LetsBO a few more stitches so that we hit the point wherethe next alteration of the chart happens the only thing you

have to do now to replace the k2tog and yo with knit stitcheswhen the edge is too close to them.

The same step-by-step decreasing when binding off at the

    left side:

    1. One stitch bound off, the first yo and k2tog in row 1 arereplaced with knit stitches.

    2. Two stitches bound off, the first yo and k2tog in row 3 arereplaced with knit stitches.

    3. Three stitches bound off, the first yo and k2tog in row 5 arereplaced with knit stitches.

    4. Four stitches bound off, the first yo and k2tog in row 7 arereplaced with knit stitches AND the first yo in row 1 isreplaced with a knit stitch, the sk2p turns into a k2tog or ssk whichever you prefer.

    5. The first yo and k2tog in row 9 are replaced with knitstitches AND the first yo in row 3 is replaced with a knit stitch, the sk2p turns into a k2tog or ssk whichever you prefer.

    6. BO 1 more stitch

    7. BO 1 more stitch

    8. BO 1 more stitch

    9. In the next step, the ssk-s of the center line would be tooclose to the edge, therefore they have to be replaced by knitstitchesand in order to maintain the number of stitches, the

yo-s right from them have to turn into knit stitches as well.

    10. Lets BO a few more stitches so that we hit the point where

the next alteration of the chart happens the only thing you

have to do now is to replace the ssk-s and yo-s with knitstitches when the edge is too close to them.
