Historical BackgroundMoving away from the disease- or provider-focused model
to be more patient-centered and Family- centered care.
The family-centered care model, developed most notably in pediatrics, but emerging in HIV, cancer, and aging.
Family-Centered Care Definition
Patient- and family-centered care is an innovative approach to the planning, delivery, and evaluation of health care that is grounded in a mutually beneficial partnership among patients, families, and providers that recognizes the importance of the family in the patient’s life.
Islamic Medicine (Prophetic) Our focus is on the Prophetic
Medicine, under the Islamic Medicine.
Comprehensive approach and mindset that promote the health and wellbeing of the body, mind and spirit taking into consideration the faith and family.
Objective and DesignNarrative review was conducted to identify relevant verses
and Hadiths in the Holy Quran and Sunnah.
Materials and methodsThe English translation of the Holy Quran and Sunnah books
were searched for the keywords “sickness”, “parent” and “family” combined and separately.
Materials and methods
Materials and methodsAll the search results were reviewed and the texts were
examined for health related matters in the context of family and/or social network.
Only one representative Hadith of the various narrations of the similar texts were included in the final results.
The results were analyzed and subdivided into practical themes.
Results
Among 1631 keywords search results, 8 verses and 15 Hadiths were extracted and identified to be relevant to FCC.
The most common themes encountered were related to the care of children and elderly, including end of life care.

ConclusionFamily Centered Care, the current standard of care, was
demonstrated in variable aspects of the holistic prophetic Islamic Medicine comprehensive approach to achieve the wellness of the whole person in his cultural and social network.
