AKRON-WESTFIELD 2ND
GRADERS VISIT HEYL
Each year, the Akron-Westfield 2nd graders visit Heyl
Truck Lines to learn about the Transportation Indus-
try. The kids spend time learning about Safety and
Operations, and get to tour a truck! The kids were
surprised by how many miles drivers travel each
year and how much weight our trucks and trailers
can hold. Heyl looks forward to their visit each year!

announce the passing of one of
our longtime drivers, Roger
Moore.
Roger was an OTR driver with
Heyl for 15 years. During his time
with us, he drove over 1.7 million
miles. Roger was a pleasure to
work with and will be missed by
all who knew him.
Please keep his wife and family in

Camden Jay Congratulations to Justin and
Ashley Smith on the birth of their
son, Camden Jay. Ashley works
in Customer Service at our Akron,
IA terminal.
During your daily routine, you may work with the
trailer numerous times. It is important to develop
proper techniques when raising and lowering the
landing gear/dollies. Below is a list of helpful tips
to keep in mind:
• Body position is key – stand on one side of the
crank with both feet planted firmly on the
ground and your body facing the trailer. Do not place your hands on or near the pinch point.
Keep your body outside the swing area.
• When possible, dump your tractor’s air bags before pulling out from underneath a trailer to help
prevent binding the dollies.
• When hooking up, back under the trailer with your air bags dumped. After your fifth-wheel engag-
es, air-up your suspension to relieve some of the trailer weight from the dollies.
• If the dollies crank hard or the handle is broken or sharp, report this issue to the person in charge of
maintenance as soon as possible. Proper maintenance and lubrication can reduce the potential
for injury.
• If you run into a situation where you have to crank against extreme resistance, it is always better to
push on the crank rather than pull on it.
• Don’t be afraid to ask for assistance. Take turns when turning a stubborn dolly, to minimize the
possibility of a strain-injury.
• Always secure the handle when finished.
• Wear gloves.

Coming Summer 2018...
We are excited to announce that driver facilities
are in the process of being upgraded at our
Akron and Zephyrhills Terminals!
The Akron terminal will be closing down “The
Hilton” and implementing 24/7 access to a
restroom with shower, laundry, and lounge area
all in the Safety Building.
The Zephyrhills terminal will be upgrading their
current driver amenities.
Thank you—Heyl Management
