DECEMBER 2011
ALOHA BECKY A BITTERSWEET FAREWELL TO OUR FRIEND AND LEADER
“Packing up the dreams God planted
In the fertile soil of you
I can't believe the hopes He's granted
Means a chapter of your life is through
But we'll keep you close as always
It won't even seem you've gone
'Cause our hearts in big and small ways
Will keep the love that keeps us strong
And friends are friends forever
If the Lord's the Lord of them
And a friend will not say never
'Cause the welcome will not end
Though it's hard to let you go
In the Father's hands we know
That a lifetime's not too long
To live as friends..." Lots of love and
luck to the Wallraff family as you set
on this new chapter in your life.”
Love Always, Jill
“Oh Becky... how wonderful it has been working with you at MOPS this
past year and a half! You showed up with such energy and enthusiasm that
first day I met you and little baby Reagan at the social at Beach 69! Next
thing you know, we were pregnant at the same time with Chloe and Reese
and we only got closer from then on. I love the way to stepped up to be the
MOPS coordinator when no one else could, even though you had a new-
born baby, a one-year old and a job!! What determination you had to keep this group
going!! You will surely be missed, but don't think you will be escaping us... we will be
praying for you and your family and I am sure we will be calling you often with 'MOPS
questions'!” Love, Tiffiny
“Becky, thank you so much for all that you and
your family have done for MOPS and for us as
individuals during your time in Ha-
waii. You, and your children, will be
sorely missed on Friday mornings.
Thank you for always being direct,
results-oriented, competitive, and
compassionate. Lion you!” Katie ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ●

“I had no idea what MOPS was. I had no friends. I was just a pregnant lady with
a wild toddler, new to the island of Hawaii. Becky was the first mom that I met
here. She introduced me to MOPS and encouraged me to come to meetings.
From there our friendship blossomed - it was as if I had known her for years. As
I became more involved with MOPS, I made more and more lasting relationships.
So Becky, thank you for making me feel welcomed and for helping me settle into
island life. You have become one of my closest friends and it's hard (really, really
hard) to see you move on, but I know we'll always be friends.”
Love You, Heather
When I first met Becky she seemed to me like a woman who must have had it pretty smooth and easy, as she always
seemed so 'together.' I was shocked when I found out she had two very young girls and juggles both a recruiting business
and the DCI company, not to mention taking on the hills of Waikoloa with a double stroller. As I have continued to get to
know Becky, I have been astounded at the composure and strength she can present when she may also be struggling with
something challenging in her personal life at the same time. A true warrior, I know she will take Florida by storm and
continue to amaze the new friends she will meet. Aloha, Becky! Thank you for the opportunity to join you on the steering
team, my fellow Lioness! ” - - Karyn

I recently read this article that just about
sums up Christmas for me . . .
A woman was out Christmas shopping with
her two children. After many hours of look-
ing at row after row of toys and everything
else imaginable, and after hours of hearing
both her children asking for everything they
saw on those many shelves, she finally
made it to the elevator with her two kids.
She was feeling what so many of us feel dur-
ing the holiday season time of the year:
overwhelming pressure to go to every party,
every housewarming, taste all the holiday
food and treats, getting that perfect gift for
every single person on our shopping list,
making sure we don't forget anyone on our
card list and the pressure of making sure we
respond to everyone who sent us a card.
Finally, the elevator doors opened and
there was already a crowd in the car. She
pushed her way into the car and dragged
her two kids in with her and all the bags of
stuff. When the doors closed, she couldn't
take it anymore and said, "Whoever started
this whole Christmas thing should be found,
strung up and shot."
From the back of the car everyone heard a
quiet calm voice respond, "Don't worry, we
already crucified Him." For the rest of the trip
down the elevator it was so quiet you could
have heard a pin drop.
This year, keep the One who started this
whole Christmas thing in your every thought,
deed, purchase and word.
Merry CHRISTmas & Happy New Year!

REDUCING CHRISTMAS STRESS BY ELLIE KAY OF THRIVINGFAMILY.COM
The "most wonderful time of the year" is sup-
posed to be a time of building family tradi-
tions. But somehow "peace on earth"
morphs into "rush in the city" when holiday
pressures rob us of cheer. The two top rea-
sons for stress at Thanksgiving and Christmas:
Over-spending/money issues
Lack of organization
If you start now, you can de-stress the holi-
days with this simple checklist that I created
for my household.
October
Jot notes for the annual Christmas letter.
Purchase Christmas cards or select a fami-
ly photo and order photo greeting cards.
Make a gift list, and check it twice. Substi-
tute baked goods for purchased presents
whenever possible. Consider giving a free
subscription to Thriving Family magazine.
Set a budget for the family and stick to it!
Help family members set realistic budgets
that do not contribute to credit card
debt.
Shop for bargain, clearance and price-
reduced gifts.
Begin making handmade presents.
November
Order return labels for Christmas cards or
print them on your computer.
Generate Christmas card list (remove
names that haven't responded in two
years); print mailing address labels for
sending cards.
Establish family traditions.
Write, copy, personalize and stuff
holiday letter.
Purchase, wrap and prepare presents
for mailing.
Place postage stamps on cards to mail
Dec. 1.
Shop food values for holiday baking.
Strategize one of the biggest shopping
days of the year, post-Thanksgiving Friday.
Look at sales ads in the Thanksgiving Day
newspaper, note the store's opening time,
list sales on gifts you want to buy, map the
stores you'll visit, select a shopping buddy
to go with you, purchase discounted gift
wrap, pray for wisdom while shopping and
avoid impulse buys.
December
Schedule holiday party baby sitters early
in the month.
Mail out-of-town gifts by Dec. 5.
Take small children to shop at the dollar
store.
Organize, prebake and freeze holiday
baking.
Wrap and label presents to put under the
tree.
Check items off your list so you don't over-
buy.
Complete shopping by Dec. 15 and stick
to your list!
Budget post-Christmas sales: non-
perishable teacher gifts and wrapping
paper, cards and decorations for next
year.

RESPIRATORY SYNCYTIAL VIRUS WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW
Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), which caus-
es infection of the lungs and breathing pas-
sages, is a major cause of respiratory illness
in young children. In adults, it may only pro-
duce symptoms of a common cold, such as
a stuffy or runny nose, sore throat, mild
headache, cough, fever, and a general
feeling of being ill. But in premature babies
and kids with diseases that affect the lungs,
heart, or immune system, RSV infections can
lead to other more serious illnesses. RSV is
highly contagious and can be spread
through droplets containing the virus when
someone coughs or sneezes. It also can live
on surfaces (such as countertops or door-
knobs) and on hands and clothing, so can
be easily spread when a person touches
something contaminated. RSV can spread
rapidly through schools and childcare cen-
ters. Babies often get it when older kids carry
the virus home from school and pass it to
them. Almost all kids are infected with RSV at
least once by the time they're 2 years old.
Preventing RSV
Because RSV can be easily spread by touch-
ing infected people or surfaces, frequent
hand washing is key in preventing its trans-
mission. Try to wash your hands after having
any contact with someone who has cold
symptoms. And keep your school-age child
with a cold away from younger siblings —
particularly infants — until the symptoms
pass.
Treating RSV
Fortunately, most cases of RSV are mild and
require no specific treatment from doctors.
Antibiotics aren't used because RSV is a virus
and antibiotics are only effective against
bacteria. Medication may sometimes be
given to help open airways. In an infant,
however, an RSV infection can be more seri-
ous and may require hospitalization so that
the baby can be watched closely, receive
fluids, and, if necessary, be treated for
breathing problems.
When to Call the Doctor
Call the doctor if your child has any of these
symptoms:
high fever with ill appearance
thick nasal discharge
worsening cough or cough that produces
yellow, green, or gray mucus
signs of dehydration
Seek immediate medical help if you feel
your child is having difficulty breathing or is
breathing very rapidly, is lethargic, or if his or
her lips or fingernails appear blue.
