The %aal&worship was also popular in srael. ;oo(ing outwardl+ at the (ingdom of srael it was prospering under )eroboam as neer  before. 9uring that time "around 38 to 8 +ears before the ten tribes were led awa+ into Ass+rian captiit+' Amos came to %ethel and pronounced his serious warnings and  prophecies. %ut Ama0iah the priest blac(ened him with the (ing and urged him to return to )udah "Amos -:18&13'. Amos was a contemporar+ of *osea. While *osea on l+ prophesied regarding srael Amos also prophesied concerning the neighbouring nations of srael. We fi nd two <uotations from the boo( of Amos in the Acts of the Apostles: A mos :2&2- in Acts -:2&3 and Amos :11 in Acts 1 :15. 2. *e does not mention the Ass+rians b+ name but he clearl+ prophesies the leading awa+into captiit+ under >halmaneser in -22 %! "Amos :.2-, 5:-., -:1-'. %esides spea(ing

serious warnings Amos also spea(s of the glorious future of the people under @essiahson of 9aid in the millennium "chap. :11&1'. Thus he testifies to )ehoahs

faithfulness$ which will be manifested in latter da+s towards his restored people of srael"Amos :1'.

Amos message mainl+ concerns the northern (ingdom of srael but )udah "the southern

(ingdom' is mentioned as well and also the neighbouring nations of srael "theirenemies'.

The first two chapters form the introduction to the whole boo(. The imminent ?udgment

of =od oer the neighbouring nations as well as srael and )udah is announced. Then

follow three speeches to the people in chap. 3 7 5 each beginning with hear this wordB.6pon that follows a fourth speech introduced with the word woeB. Crom chap. -

onwards fie isions of the prophet are described and finall+ the restoration of the earthl+

 people of =od and the blessings of the millennium.
