Trained leader, accountable for specific outcomes (service, evangelism, learning, and care giving).

Christian Life Profile (120 questions, 4 x 30):

Plus three other individuals in the small groups.

Where personal spiritual formation lacking.

5 different church-based experiences each week:

Neighboring congregation (15-20 people):

Same geographic location.

Meet twice each month.

1. On worship, teaching, and fellowship.

2. On fellowship, and encouraged to invite guests.

Church’s primary delivery point for spiritual nurture and care.

Led by a lay pastor (training, testing, oral examination).

Church’s main launching pad for outreach opportunities.

Each individual is encouraged to join a discipleship team.

5-9 people by a discipler.

Same gender.

Each year with a created personal life plan.

The person’s mission, vision, values, goals, and schedule for pursuing desired growth outcomes.

Identifies how to mature in 5 specific areas: Bible knowledge, practical ministry skills, outreach, prayer, accountability.

Church-authored discipleship curriculum:

3-year cycle (6 six-week modules per years; September through May).

Sign a covenant of commitment each year.

Expected to graduate and becoming a discipler of others.

Key components to this model:

Alternating between systematic and practical approach to theology.

Emphasis on evangelism.

Sermons not aligned with the small group content.

No Sunday school.

Special classes offered: on highly focused courses, on specialized theological topics. ,

Cover both in-reach and outreach.

Standardized three-year curriculum: intentional biblical worldview content.

With a front end personal life plan: personal responsibility for growth.

The discipleship curriculum: The Discovery Series.

60-90 minutes per week in personal readying, study, and reflection.

Small groups ( = Laboratory)

As means of exploring the content further to follow through on application

Sermons: Expository, but arranged in 4-12 themed series.

Each message in two major sections: (1) the background and principles; (2) challenges as to how to live a Christian life.

The ultimate goal:

To cover enough principles, in several years, to grasp a biblical worldview, how to make decision.

An outline received each week, with homework related to sermon (read, study verses, questions to ponder).

Small group (10-16 people, 10-week period, covenant required, brief hiatus to join another group).

Trained leaders to facilitate discussion, prayer, and accountability the help people use their gifts to serve others.

To answer questions raised in sermons.

To personalize the insights and get feedback on the personal application of the teaching.

Word-centered in teaching, relationships, the accountability process, and the service emphasis.

The small groups constitute the primary learning forum, not Sunday school.
