Official Syllabus主として中高緯度で観測される気候変動の実態と、それに関与する様々な時空間スケールを持つ現象の間の相互作用について議論する。具体的に採り上げる現象は、北大西洋振動や北太平洋の 10年規模変動に伴う中緯度での大気海洋相互作用とストームトラックの役割、 ENSOの遠隔影響に伴う北太平洋水温偏差の形成における大気海洋相互作用、北太平洋 10年規模変動における海洋波動や海洋前線帯の役割、南北半球の環状モード変動におけるストームトラックや惑星波変動の役割などである.
