月探査ロボット開発の方向性
有人を目指すか否かに関わらず、月探査に日本のお家芸であるロボット技術を活用する方向性を設定して国全体として開発を進めることは、世界の宇宙開発競争の中での日本の存在感を高め、平和的な極限環境ロボットを開発するという日本の国家目標を、軍事研究駆動型開発研究を進める諸外国に対抗する形で明確化でき、さらにそれによって多様なフィールドロボティックス産業の育成を促すことができるなどの効果があり、国益に適う。
[条件]• 著しく厳しい環境(温度、斜面、凹凸、塵埃)の制限
• 著しく厳しい重量と容量の制限
• 必要とされる多様な機能性、そして高度な遠隔操作性と自律性
• (膨大な血税を出費する国民を失望させない)目標設定と失敗しない技術
[月探査ロボット開発の方向性]• 軽量コンパクトで必要十分な対環境適応機能とミッション達成機能を有する、
適な「形態」を有するロボットコンセプトの選択を慎重に行うことが必要
• 目的とする「機能」に適合した 適な「形態」の選択こそがマシン設計の根幹!

トランスフォーマー型月面探査ロボットの特徴
• 夜はテントを張り中で丸くなって放熱を防ぎ、昼はミラーで陰を作り動きやすい形態で探査を行う、というように熱対策を取りながら月面において長期の探査作業を続けられるロボットシステムが実現可能である。
• ランダー内にはコンパクトな形態で格納され、月面においては与えられたミッションを達成するもっとも 適な形態に変形する、という搬送性とミッション遂行性を両立させられる探査ロボットが実現可能である。
• 物まねでない、状況に応じて形態を変形していくという、著しく合理的で独創性の高いロボットが実現出来る。このような独創的なロボットによって月面での困難な諸作業を遂行出来れば、日本発の創造的な技術を世界にアピール出来る。また科学技術の面白さと可能性を一般大衆に印象付けることが出来て、子供たちの理科離れを防げる。

おわりに
• 人寄せパンダのようなロボット開発ではなく、国際的に評価される真に役立つ月探査ロボットの開発を進めるためには、その形態の選択に 大限の注意を払うべきである。
• 月面のような極限環境で機能するトランスフォーマー型ロボットの研究開発は、日本のお家芸である「からくり」の技術を現代に復活させようとするものであり、日本の独自性を発揮しやすく、また人々をわくわくさせる。
• トランスフォーマー型ロボットの研究開発はまた、地球環境保全、食糧危機、グリーンエネルギー生成などの世界的課題を解決していく鍵となるフィールドロボティックス関連の産業を発展させる起爆剤にもなる。
• 2020年頃に向けて、この分野の技術開発へ「持続する」サポートが続けられることが望まれる。
