Europe-INBO activities
• Acting as a relay of information from CIS activities to Basin authorities• Large dissemination of new strategies and guidance documents• Better coordination between CIS works and Networks activities: participation of COM to annual Conferences, dedicated workshops such as for the worshops on Monitoring programmes/ Restoration / Diffuse Pollution, Circular Economy and re-use
• Facilitating the network and mobilising Basin authorities•Participation to CIS workshops, guidance drafting, providing key studies from basins•Organising the “know-each-other” between Basin Authorities (website, database of thematic contacts…)• Sharing of lessons learnt from the field and reporting to SCG• Accompanying “Peer reviews” processes•Links with other initiatives (Climate Change PRBs, …)

Example 2 - The Green Climate Fund Project Cycle The GCF project cycles includes five main steps:
1) The AE or the NDA submit a concept note (voluntary);
2) The AE submit the project proposal to the GCF, in conjunction with a no-objection letter signed by the NDA;
3) The GCF reviews selected sections of the proposal and the Independent Technical Advisory Panel (ITAP) of the Fund undertakes a technical assessment and provides recommendations;
4) Based on the review and the technical assessment, the GCF decides
whether or not to approve the funding; and,
5) If the proposal is approved, a Funded Activity Agreement (FAA) is negotiated and signed between the AE and the GCF.

• …. with very good complementarity of the contributions on topics such as:
• Water data governance (principles for interinstitutional coop. and financingaspects)
• Data production processes focusing on in situ monitoring, remote sensing,crowd sourcing
• How to organize integrated data management with various organizationsrelying on the existing situation (strategy/ common language,interoperability) ?
• How to improve visualization and production of information adapted tothe needs of the final users and ho to organize dissemination of theinformation
• … and a total 47 case studies from all continents provided by the partners andby INBO network members
• Firstly addressed to water‐sector decision‐makers (considering the importanceof water data management in IWRM) and to all organization willing to reinforcetheir capacities in data production, data administration and data exploitationfor a better water resource management
The Handbook on Water Information Systems
https://www.riob.org/fr/documents/all-handbooks-basins-management
• Underlines why water data management is so important for efficientwater resource management
• Introduces five main processes to be considered :
• Presents a picture of the main challenges and case studies showinghow information systems are implemented to meet needs invarious water sector management domains such as:
• Integrated Water Information Systems for IWRM and planning at basin and national levels
• Water information systems for climate change adaptation
• Early warning systems for flood and drought period management
• Water information systems for aquatic ecosystem protection
• Sectorial and thematic water information systems (drinking water and sanitation,irrigation, hydroelectricity, groundwater, etc.)
• Water information systems for reporting (SDG, WFD, Flood Directive, etc.)
• Water information systems for transboundary basins

Governance of water related data management
• Objective– Reinforce implementation based on developing or building capacities for adaptation to
the effects of climate change and for the management of uncertainty in basin management and action plans.
• Activities– Extending / reinforcing the exchange of experiences between basins in relation with
UNECE through the network of pilot basins for adaptation to climate change
– Sustaining the incubation platform for water and climate projects launched in 2017 bythe mobilization of new financial donors
• Facilitating the "100 projects for Africa" component launched in December 2017 with the support of the FrenchGovernment, the World Bank and the United Nations General Secretariat,
– Disseminating the publication planned with the World Bank and UNECE on thepreparation of acceptable projects.
– Intensifying the action of the Global Alliances for Water and Climate: participation ininternational events and joint advocacy, finalization and search for funding for jointoperational projects.

• Objective– Increase relationships and interactions between the water sector and
economic sectors for more effective IWRM
– Progressing in the debate on water in agriculture
• Activities– Generate operational debate on the relationship between water use in
agriculture and the management of water resources and aquaticenvironments.
– Define new methods of work, again based on basin organizations'experiences, particularly within the institutions linked to basinorganizations, which promote positive interaction ("win-win"principle), well illustrated by the "prisoner's dilemma").
– Pilot approach in a few basins with first a diagnosis of interactions (orlack of interactions) and secondly an improvement project.

• Objective
– Facilitate dialogue between Cities and BO, based on the good practices for collaboration between Cities (Urban water utilities in particular but not only) and BO
• Activities– INBO supports the IWA Basin-connected Cities Action Agenda. It helps
to establish a compendium of good practices for collaboration between Cities and BO.
– INBO will also focus on supporting its members in the development of pilot projects on this theme.
