#3- Choose a Book Size

• Paperbacks: 5 ½ x 8 ½ - 6 x 9. The 6 x 9 is the most common and the size I prefer.  • Manuals & workbooks: 8 x 10- 8 ½ x 11. I have

used this book size for workbooks that contain charts and interactive elements. • Novels: 5 ½ x8 ½. Only use this size for smaller

books, or it will be too bulky!

#3- Choose a Book Size• Short Stories or Essays: 5 ½ x 8 ½ As a fourth

grade writing teacher, I often wrote essays with my students. If I ever decide to publish those, this would be the perfect book size to use. • Nonfiction: 6 x 9 or 7 x 10. If I were to publish

this book for print, then I would choose 7 x 10. Why? Because I will be including visuals, and I can put more on a page.• Photography or Art books It’s really up to you.

Find some examples, and decide what you like and don’t like. Then pick the size that you think fits what you are trying to accomplish.
