Unity of the Supper

“Now as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and after blessing it broke it and gave it to the disciples, and said, “Take, eat; this is my body.”

(Matthew 26.26; ESV)

Who is the “they?”

Some of the Twelve:– Peter – Zealot

– Matthew – Tax collector

– James and John – Sons of Thunder

– Simon the Zealot (Luke 6.15)

Unity Among the Divided

Where was their unity around the table?– Was it not Jesus?

– Was it not the words of the Messiah?

No Foreigner in the Midst

“And the Lord said to Moses and Aaron, “This is the statute of the Passover: no foreigner shall eat of it, but every slave that is bought for money may eat of it after you have circumcised him.”

(Exodus 12:43-44; ESV)

The Bread:

• The Passover (Unleavened bread) – Exodus 12.8

• Christ’s Body – Matthew 26.26

The “Fruit of the Vine”

“For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord's

death until he comes.”
