before you leave your house is important. If the weather is too bad perhaps it’s better to stay

indoors.

Prep your car before traveling, to ensure your safety.

Here are some things to check:

Battery

*It’s always good to keep an emergency kit in your car as well.

Snow

Snow can cause a lot of

visibility problems

It makes it easier to lose

control of your car.

Snow can also hide potential

dangers (potholes, ice,

rocks, etc.)

Here are some tips to stay safe:

Keep a safe distance of 8-10 seconds. Slow down.

Accelerate and decelerate slowly. Never use cruise control on a slippery surface.

Learn how to brake correctly this depends on your brake system.

Rain

Rain makes for slippery road conditions, and causes more crashes, deaths, and injuries

than any other type of weather.

The wet pavement may require twice the

braking distance to stop. It’s even possible

to hydroplane in the rain.

What to do:

Reduce speed. Avoid deepest water. Check tire pressure. If you hydroplane,

ease off accelerator & brake.

Fog

Fog is the worst for visibility. Even a small amount can

obstruct your view of other vehicles, impending corners,

and other obstacles.

Tips for driving in fog:

Reduce your speed. Signal early.

Turn off cruise control. Keep a consistent speed. Use fog lights if you have

them. Use road reflectors as a

guide.

Ice

Ice requires the same precautions and skills as snow with a couple added steps. Here are some basic guidelines to assist you:

Slow down.

Avoid sharp braking, accelerating, and steering. Give yourself time to slow down around corners.

Increase space between cars. Drive in the highest gear to avoid spinning tires.
