THEORY
:
SENSORSensors allow a PLC to detect the state of a process. Logical sensors can only detect a state
that is either true or false. Type of sensor such as Contact switches, Proximity sensor and Photo sensor . Each sensor have own function.
SINKING AND SOURCINGWhen choosing the type of input or output module for your system it is very important to have a solid understanding of sinking and sourcing concepts. Therefore, sinking and sourcing terminology applies only to DC input and output circuits. Input and output points that are sinking or sourcing can conduct current in one direction
only. This means it is possible to connect the external supply and field device to the I/O point, with current trying
to flow in the wrong direction, and the circuit will not operate. However, the supply and field device can be connected every time based on an understanding of sourcing and sinking. The figure below depicts a sinking input. To properly connect the external supply, it must be connected so the input provides a path to supply common(-). So, start at the PLC input terminal, follow through the input sensing circuit, exit at the common terminal, and connect the supply (-) to the common terminal. By adding the switch between the supply (+) and the input, the circuit is completed. Current flows in the direction of the arrow when the switch is closed.

PRACTICAL WORK 3
: Programming Instruction of PLCLEARNING OUTCOMES:Upon completion of this practical work, student should be able to:
i. Convert the Ladder Diagram to Mnemonic Code.
ii. Key-in mnemonic code into PLC
iii. Demonstrate And Troubleshoot the program of PLC
EQUIPMENT
:i. PLC Omron Sysmac CPM 2A
THEORY
:
Ladder Diagram
Mnemonic Code
A very commonly used method of programming PLCs is based on the use of the ladder diagrams. Writing a program is then equivalent to drawing a switching circuit. The ladder diagram consists of two vertical lines representing the power rails. Circuits are connected as horizontal lines, i.e the rungs of the ladder, between these two verticals.
PASSWORD INPUT
1. The PLC has a password control to prevent unauthorized access to its program. To enter password, press the CLR, MONTR, CLR key.
TO CLEAR ALL PROGRAMS
2. Erasing a previous program in the memory of the CPU is referred to as an ALL CLEAR operation. To clearing all program :
MONITORING INSTRUCTIONS
3. Press the up and down key to monitor the program lines.
INSERTING AND DELETING INSTRUCTIONS
In PROGRAM mode, any instruction that is currently displayed can be deleted or another instruction can be inserted before it. These are not possible in RUN or MONITOR modes.
To insert an instruction, display the instruction before which you want the new instruction to be placed, input the instruction in the same way as when inputting a program initially, and then press INS and the DOWN key.
To delete an instruction, display the instruction to be delete and press DEL and the UP key.
