(Isaiah 62:2, 4 NLT)
Have you ever noticed all the peoplethroughout the Bible that God gave
a fresh start? Moses was an old man
before he had an encounter with a
burning bush and was called by God
to lead a nation. Then David, a humble
shepherd boy, was anointed to be the
king of Israel. Peter, the apostle who
denied Christ, was forgiven and called
to spend the rest of his life preaching
and glorifying God. And Paul, who
once persecuted Gods people, was
transformed on the road to Damascusand ended up writing much of the
New Testament.
When you think about all the people
throughout the Scriptures whom God
forgave, redeemed and used in mighty
ways, can you doubt that He is able to
do the same for you? Our God is the

For me, it was the memory of sexual

many years I was stuck in a place of
anger and bitterness because of what
happened to me. I had a big chip on
my shoulder and wanted someoneto
pay for what had happened to me. I

around me. Then I would feel guilty
for the way I was, get on my knees

FROZEN IN A MOMENTMaybe youre stuck, frozen in a
moment. It might be past abuse. It
could be a personal failure of some
kind or something completely beyond
your control, like an illness or thedeath of a loved one. Perhaps youve
been disappointed by an unmet
expectationnothing turned out the
way you wanted it to. So you think, its
over. Its too late for me.
But it isnt too late. Its nevertoo late
to have a fresh start when you have
life in Christ. Your past is not your

YOU GOTTA GET OUT OFTHE BOATYou have a bright futurewaiting for you. Gods Word promises,
For I know the plans I have for you
plans for good and not for disaster, to
give you a future and a hope.
(Jeremiah 29:11 NLT)
But you have to learn to take a step of
faith. Just like Peter, you cant walkon water if you wont get out of the
boat (see Matthew 14:28-29). It may
be harder than you thoughtand it
may cost you something. But if you
follow the Holy Spirits leading, it will
produce good fruit in your life.
Romans 6:13 (NLT) says, Give your-
selves completely to God, for you were
dead, but now you have new life. So use
your whole body as an instrument to do
what is right for the glory of God.
So often God leads but we dont want
to go where Hes leading. We must
learn how to yield instead of being
resistantlearn to surrender instead
of being stubborn. When you do, you
will enjoy your life, even when things
dont turn out exactly the way you
wanted them to. And if God asks you
to give something up, understand that
Hes not trying to take away some-
thing you like or want just to be mean.
God always has your best interest at
heart. Trust where Hes taking you.
BABY STEPS OF FAITHSecond Corinthians 5:17 says if
anyone is in Christ they are a new
creation. When you were born again,
He gave you a new heart and a new
way of living. But in the beginning,
we are all like babies learning to walk.
When babies take their first steps,
they fall down many times. But they
always get back up and try again. Godis asking you to do the same thing.
When you fall down in life, you have
to get back up, regroup and take
another step. But no matter how many
times you fall down, eventually you
will get to where you need to beif
you will simply choose not to give up.
Your new beginning is closer than you
think. Just keep walking!
And He Who is seated on the thronesaid, See! I make all things new.

o you feel like youre going through a
time of testing in your life? Are you
struggling with a situation that youre
tempted to simply avoid, ignore or runaway from because its too hard to face?
Jesus tells us in John 16:33 that in this
world we will have tribulation and trials.
But He follows it up with good news! He says,Be of good
cheerI have overcome the world.
The truth is we all go through hard times, and we can
either trust God to help us deal with them or choose to
give up. But if we give up, we wont move forward in life
and experience Gods best for us.
Sometimes God allows us to go through difficulties in this
life because its during those times that we grow in our
faith and develop more of the character of Christ.
Trials reveal what we really believe and whats really
inside our hearts. They test us. And until we have to deal
with a specific situation, we really dont know what we
would do.
James 1:2 says we should consider it wholly joyful when
we experience a trial or face a temptation. Verse three goes
on to say that the trial and proving of your faith bring outendurance and steadfastness and patience.
I remember the days when I would get upset and complain
whenever things didnt go my way. I had no peace and was
emotionally unstable. When I was tested by trials, they
brought out the jealousy, confusion and negative attitudes
that were in my heart.
But through the years, as Ive studied the Word and
learned how to trust God, I have developed more of the
qualities and character of Christ in my life. Im still a work
in progress, but now Im much more patienteven in thedifficult times. But it was the trials I went through that
helped get me to this point.
We can face our trials and tests with joy when we under-
stand that it s by going through them that we learn how
to live in Gods peace, joy and wisdomwhatever our
circumstances may be.
Here are a few tips to help you pass your tests:
1. SEEK GODS STRENGTH DURING TIMES OF
TEMPTATION.During hard times, we can be tempted to revert back to
an old behavior, habit or addiction. For instance, I smoked
for many years, and after I quit there was period of time
when I would want a cigarette whenever I was upset or felt
pressured by something.
But I love what 1 Corinthians 10:13 says: During temptation,
God will [always] provide the way out (the means of escape
to a landing place), that you may be capable, strong and
powerful to bear up under itpatiently. When temptation
comes, run to God! Ask Him to strengthen you in that area
and help you to keep moving forward.
2. FOCUS ON THE POSITIVE AND THANK GODFOR HIS GOODNESS.When times get tough, its easy to complain, be angry with
God, or resent people who dont have the same problems
we have. However, these things will only keep us stuck
where we are and affect our lives in a destructive way.

The antidote? Choose to praise God for the blessings in
your life. Place your focus on Him and thank Him for His
love and faithfulness. As you do, you will magnify the
goodand push out the bad.
3. TRUST GOD WHEN YOU DONT HAVETHE ANSWERS.At one time or another, all of us have probably thought,
Why is this happening to me?!But instead of wondering
why and feeling sorry for ourselves, we need to say, Dont
panicthis is only a test! Because heres the truth: This
too will pass, and well get through it with more peace and
stability if well trust God to do what is best for us at the
right time and in His way.
4. WAIT ON GODS TIMING.If youre anything like me, youve been tempted to make
something happen on your own. Have you ever thought,
Im not going to put up with this anymore! Im going to do
something about this! But when we take matters into our
own hands, we often delay or miss the blessing that God
wants to give us. Instead, we need to be determined to
trust God and wait on Him to work things out.
God loves you so much, and He has a great plan for your
life. The next time youre being tested, I encourage you to
say, God, I trust You. This is good for me! It doesnt feel
good, but I know You will work it out for my good.
Every test you go through, youll get a little closer to God.
And on the other side of it, youll thank Him for using it to
make you more like Christ.

Nairobi, Kenya. I had thistrip circled on my calendar.Every year,Hand of Hope,Joyce Meyer Ministries
World Missions conducts free medical/dental
clinics around the world. And as one of their
medical outreach coordinators, Ive gotten
a chance to travel far and wideand watch
God work miracles in the lives of people who
desperately need help.
But for me, this outreach was going to be special.
You see, Nairobi is my home town. Well, actu-
ally, my family is from Louisiana. But from the
time I was young, my parentsDon and Amy
Mathenyhave been independent missionaries
in Kenya. In fact, about twenty-five years ago,
they founded Nairobi Lighthouse Church.
The oldest of six children, I returned to the
United States when I was 18 to attend Bible
schoolthen eventually nursing school.
My hearts desire was to someday come
back to Nairobi with a skill and serve the
people there like my parents have for so
many years.
But life has a way of surprising you.
Through a series of events, I stayed in
the U.S. and began volunteering for
Joyce Meyer Ministries medical/dental
outreaches. That is where I found my
calling. One thing led to another, andtoday I am privileged to work on
these outreaches full time. And in the
summer of 2013, my work led me back
to a place very close to my heart
IT TAKES SO LITTLE My dream of beinga nurse in Kenya was fulfilled in a way I could
have never imagined. Here I was leading aHand
of Hopemedical/dental team, working in part-
nership with my family a nd Nairobi Lighthouse
Church to help so many people in need.
For one week, we treated patients in Nairobis
Huruma Slums. Each day, the number of people
increased. As word spread, we began seeing
patients who traveled from miles away in the
countryside.
When baby Anne arrived at the clinic, she was
running a 104 fever and hadnt eaten in days.
Her mother was very scared. We immediately
gave her medicine and fluids to lower her tem-
perature, then administered a simple test which
confirmed she had malaria. Left undetected,

little Anne likely would have died.
But we caught it in timeand gave her
lifesaving medication to fight
the disease.
No matter how many times I do this,
Im always amazed at how little it
takes to save a life. So many in the
slums cant afford a doctor. And many
times the local physicians dont even
have access to proper medications or
testing devices.
When 25-year-old Maureen came into
the clinic, her blood sugar registered
554dangerously high. Diabetic since
she was eight, Maureen had already
lost one of her legs due to infection.
Without a glucometer, she had no
way to check her sugar level. She ran
out of insulin the day before and had
nowhere to turn for help.
Moved with compassion, one of our
doctors bought Maureen her very
own glucometer. We also helped her
make a connection with a local clinic
where shell have access to insulin
and the proper attention she so
desperately needs.
THE DAY WE MET BABYMOSES On the fourth day of this
outreach, something happened that Iwill never forget
One of our first patients was a
two-week-old Kenyan baby. A woman
found him abandoned in a nearby
field. She appropriately named
himMosesthen brought him to us
because she had run out of diapers
and baby formula.
Other than a slight eye infection,
Moses was healthy and strong. Thewoman wanted to continue caring
for him, so we connected her with a
clinic in the area that will follow up
on them. We also introduced her to
an orphanage affiliated with Nairobi
Lighthouse Churchjust in case her
situation becomes unmanageable.
But Moses really struck a chord with me
Eighteen years ago, a German family
attended my parents church. They
held in their arms a baby who was
abandoned in these same Huruma,
Nairobi slums. They loved and cared
for him, but they were returning to
Germany and, without the appropri-
ate papers, they couldnt take the
child with them.
That day, my parents made a decision
that would affect all of our lives
forever. They accepted responsibility
for the babythe child who would
eventually become my adopted
brother, David.
When David came home with us, he
was only seven weeks oldand hes
been a part of our family ever since.
After having five girls of their own, hewas the boy my parents never had. He
is truly my fathers African son.
To me, Davids whole life is just a
glimpse of the heart of Godthat He
cares enough to reach us wherever
circumstances may take us.
The day Moses came to the clinic, I
ran out to find David and said, You
have got to see this! David was so
touched, and he immediately wentout to buy Moses some diapers and
formulathen sat and held him in his
arms while he fed him.
As his sister, it was such a precious
moment. It was like stepping back in
time and seeing David rescued all over
again. That day we prayed for Moses
and spoke blessings over his life.It is
something I will always treasure.
OVER 5,000 SERVED By theend of the week, our team treated
5,169 patients in all. We also had the
chance to pray for thousands, with
more than 265 people giving their
lives to the Lord! And it goes far
beyond the numbers
Ill never forget the group of Somali
refugees who came through the clinic. They were devout Muslims and very
closed to the Gospel. One man, on his
way out, leaned over and whispered
to one of our volunteers, I know who
Joyce isI watch her on TV.
I believe our acts of loveour serving
these peoplewill have a greater
effect than we ever realize.
For me, my experience in Nairobi
brought me full circle, back to theplace where it all began. And this
fallin Septemberour medical
teams will return to Kenya again. Its
a chance to reach even more people
with the love of Christ.
And its another chance for me to serve
the people and the place I love so dearly.
Baby Anne arrived just in time

to meet her and discover how Gods
Word helped her overcome twenty
years of depression.
Ill never get tired of listening to
Gods Word the way Joyce explains
it, says Lucy. Thats why I am happy to come
to the United States for a conference. I want her
to know how God has freed me and healed me
through her teachings.
I am a positive person now, Lucy says, with a
kind smile and a loving tone of voice.
If youve never been in depression, you dont
know how awful it is, she says candidly. Every
day goes by but youre not really living; youre justexisting. Now Ive come back to life. I feel rich.
For twenty years, Lucy didnt know where to
turn for help.
I was an idealist and a perfectionist, she says.
When I approached forty, the dreams I had
for my life didnt turn out the way I expected
them to. I didnt get married like so many young

women dream about. And I hadnt achieved
what I wanted to achieve in life. That really hit
me. Plus, I have a tendency to be melancholic.
So that, mixed with my disappointments, led me
down into depression.
Lucy did all she could to get help.
I got treatment from a psychiatrist and was on
medication but I just remained the same. I had
accepted Jesus and went to church. I knew I had
God on my side. But I didnt get what I needed
for my mind until I heard Joyces teachings.
One evening, as Lucy flipped throughthe
channels on her TV set, she came across a
program called Enjoying Everyday Life.
I was so needy to hear any positive comment,
she says. So I kept watching. The next day I
checked to see if this lady would be on at thesame time.
Day by day, Gods Word began to free Lucy
from depression.
Joyce explained Gods Word in such a way
that it gave me what I needed, said Lucy, who
challenged herself to think positively about her
life, from the perspective of Gods Word. It was
marvelous when I realized I wasnt sad anymore.
I wasnt depressed anymore. The depression wasleaving me! The monster was leaving!
Since Lucy started pressing past negative
thoughts and feelings and believing the promises
God had for her in His Word, shes experienced a
beautiful transformation in the spirit.
I used to be selfish, impatient and judgmental.
Oh, poor me, Like Joyce says with the robot story
she uses. What about me? What about
me? I was a very sensitive person,
always concerned about myself. Now
I am more aware and sensitive to the
needs of other people.
At the salon where Lucy works, most
of her customers speak German
or Spanish. A willing vessel, Lucy
seems to share Gods heart ef-
fortlesslyin both languages, and
occasionally in English.
God leads me, she says. When I see
that a person is going through a hard
time, Ill say, Here is a teaching series
called Living Without Frustration. Ive
found that when people need help,
they are open [to Gods Word].
As Joyce says, Do your best and letGod do the rest. He can open up their
eyes to see the Truth.
Grateful for the ways Gods used this
ministry in her life, Lucy says shell
continue to buy Joyces books and
teachings to give to her friends and
customers. She also hopes to return
to the United States to attend more
conferences in the future. We hope
shell have that opportunity as well.
One thing is certain: Gods wonder-
ful plan for her life will continue to
unfoldand were excited to learn
more about her incredible journey
in Christ.

There is life in the Word! Hebrews 4:12
says, The Word that God speaks is alive
and full of power [making it active,
operative, energizing, and effective]; it
is sharper than any two-edged sword,
penetrating to the dividing line of the
breath of life (soul) and [the immortal]
spirit[of the deepest parts of our
nature], exposing and sifting and ana-lyzing and judging the very thoughts
and purposes of the heart.
In this one verse, we see some
amazing benefits we can get from the
Wordlife, power, energy, and revela-
tion about our thoughts and motives.
And there are so many more!
The Bible is Gods love letter to us
and our instruction book for life.
It reveals Gods thoughts andrenews our mind so we have the

It teaches us wisdom we can

we know how to handle every
situation we face.
Its a book of comfort that brings

3030 CONTINUED
Now, there are no rules you have
to follow or a specific reading plan
you need to accomplish. Its good for
you to determine what you will study
during the 30 days so you wont get
frustrated with a lack of direction and
feel like you dont know what to do.
But you have freedom to be led by the
Holy Spirit in finding the approach
that works best for you.
If theres a specific topic you want to
learn about, you could focus on passages
that cover the subject. For example,
Hebrews 11 is all about faith and 1
Corinthians 13 teaches us about Gods
love. Or you could go through the book
of Proverbs, which has 31 chapters, and
study the chapter that corresponds with
each day of the month.
Let me say again that these are just
ideas to help you get going. The main
thing is for you to take in the Word,
think about how you can apply it to
your life, and do what God shows
you to do. Youll be amazed by how
much Gods Word becomes a light to
your path each day and gives you the
understanding you need! (See Psalm
119:105 and 130.)
Preparation is key to your success.
So here are a few tips that will help
prepare you to enjoy your study time
and get the most you can out of it.
TIPS TO HELP YOU RISE TOTHE CHALLENGE
Begin with prayerask the Holy
Spirit to be your Teacher and help
you understand what youre reading.
Slow downRemember, more
isnt necessarily better; it s aboutquality, not quantity.
Predetermine to obey what you
learnGod will give you the grace
to do it as you lean on Him.
Keep a notepad handyto jot
down your thoughts and things
that stand out to you.
Meditate on Scripturemull it over
in your mind throughout the day.
Approach the Word with rever-
ence and make it a priority. The
important thing is to work your
schedule around God, rather than
working God into your schedule.
You have the freedom to be
flexiblefirst thing in the morning,
lunchtime, during your commute to
work, evening, before bedtime, etc.
God will show you when to schedule
your time if youre struggling to
figure it out.
Consider how you will apply
what you learnto your life and
the steps you will take to do it.
If you are struggling with
something in your life, study
scriptures that address the issue.
If something in particular
struck a chordwhile you were
studying, take time the next day to
dig in to the topic more; a concor-
dance is helpful for this.
Determine to be focusedif
you are easily distracted, silence
your phone and wait until you are
finished to respond to emails and
texts; jot down things on your
to-do list if they come to mind so
you can keep your focus.
Be serious about your com-
mitment and stick with it.Consistency is key. Mark 4:24 says:
The measure [of thought and study]
you give [to the truth you hear]
will be the measure [of virtue and
knowledge] that comes back to you.
Hebrews 11:6 says, Without faith it is
impossible to please Him, for he who
comes to God must believe that He is,
and that He is a rewarder of those who
diligently seek Him (NKJV).Begin your
journey in faith, trusting that Godwants you to come to Him. He will
give you His graceHis undeserved
favor, power and blessingto enable
you to learn His Word and become all
He created you to be.
You can do ittake the challenge!

This scripture shows us that the measure [of thought and study] thatwe give [to the truth {we} hear] will be the measure [of virtue andknowledge] that comes back to us. Its simple, but we have to put sometime and effort into the process if we are going to learn about who Godis and get what we need from His Word.
Preparation is key to successfully achieving a goal. The followingquestions will help you prepare to jump into the challenge withconfidence that you can do it!
1. What time of daywill you schedule for your 30 minutes of Bible study for the 30
days of the challenge? Consider this carefully because its important to be consis-
tent and keep this time a top priority.
2. How will you get started? Is there a particular book of the Bible or topic you
want to learn aboutmaybe an issue youre struggling with, like unforgiveness, an-
ger, selfishness, or sickness? Make a plan so you arent floundering and frustrated
by lack of direction each day.
3. What do you need from God right now?Consider how you can use your study
time to pursue more of God and find the help, comfort, peace, provision or anything
else youre seeking today.
Be careful what you are hearing. The measure [of thought and study]you give [to the truth you hear]will be the measure [of virtue andknowledge] that comes back toyouand more [besides] will begiven to you who hear. Mark 4:24

WHAT DID OUR Founding Fathers
reallybelieve?
This has been a popular question. In
fact, in recent years, the character
and beliefs of some of Americas most
revered men have been scrutinized in
efforts to discredit their reputations
and prove that God and morality were
never meant to play such a major role
in our government.
This push has even led our courts to
take bold, unconstitutional measures
to change laws and erase God and
Christian principles from the sys-
temsomething our Founding Fathers
warned us about.
But one thing is for sure: The archi-
tects of America believed that without
godly virtue and moral principles, the govern-
ment of a free people cannot be maintained.
The Religion of America Several of the
Founders have left us with descriptions of their
basic religious beliefs. In particular, Benjamin
Franklin summarized what he felt were the fun-
damental points in all sound religion.
Just look at what he says in a now-famous letter
to Ezra Stiles, president of Yale University:
Here is my creed: I believe in one God, the Creator
of the universe. That he governs it by his providence.
That he ought to be worshipped. That the most
acceptable service we render to him is in doing
good to his other children. That the soul of a man is
immortal, and will be treated with justice in another
life respecting its conduct in this. These I take to be
the fundamental points in all sound religion.1
Wow! And not only did Franklin hold these views,
but the five main religious beliefs expressed inthis letter also appear in nearly all of the other
Founders writings.
This creed was met with so much approval that
it was commonly referred to as The Religion
of America.
Our Founders felt these fundamentals were so im-
portant in providing good government and the

happiness of mankind that they want-
ed them taught in the public schools
along with morality and knowledge.2
The Ingredients for SuccessWhen
the First Constitutional Convention
convened in 1787, they literally made
history when they produced and signed
a revolutionary document: the Constitu-
tion of the United States of America.
But from the very beginning, they knew
this new form of government, this re-
public, could not be maintained without
the primary ingredients of Christian
morality and virtueboth among the
people and within the government itself.
After the signing, Ben Franklin insisted
that, Only a virtuous people are ca-
pable of freedom. As nations become
corrupt and vicious, they have more
need of masters.3
Samuel Adams later echoed his re-marks: I thank God that I have lived to
see my country independent and free.
She may long enjoy her independence
and freedom if she will. It depends on
her virtue.4
In fact, when the French philosopher,
Alexis de Tocqueville, visited the
United States in 1831, he became so im-
pressed with the inseparable relation-
ship between liberty and the principles
of Christianity that he went home andwrote one of the best definitive studies
on the American Constitutional system.
In his book, Democracy in America, he
writes, On my arrival in the United
States the religious aspect of the
country was the first thing that struck
my attention. While the law permits
the Americans to do what they please,
religion prevents them from conceiving, and forbids
them to commit, what is rash and unjust.5
The Tale of Two CountriesDe Tocqueville
benefitted from a unique perspective; he had a
front row seat to witness both the American and
French Revolutions. While these countries shared
a passion for liberty and independence, their
outcomes couldnt have been any different.
By the end of the 1700s, he had watched the pro-
moters of atheism and amorality seize control of
his homeland and turn the French Revolution into a
shocking blood bath of wild excesses and violence.6
While inspired by the American Revolution, the
French never enjoyed the same success because
they overlooked the very foundation of our Con-
stitutionGod.
George Washington, U.S. President at the time,
reminded his own people that religion and
morality are indispensable supports, and asked
who can look with indifference upon attempts to
shake the foundation of the fabric?7
And Washingtons words have never meant more
than they do right now.
For too long, Christians have looked with indif-
ference as many in this country have desperately
tried to pull apart the inseparable bands of
liberty and Christian virtueto remove God once
and for all from our past and our future.
Its time for us to wake up and heed the warning
of our Founding Fathers.
They are the ones who believed that religion and
morality are the cornerstones of a free govern-
ment. They believed that maintaining our virtue
and Christian principles is the greatest way to
secure our liberty and happiness.
They believed in Almighty Godthe very Fabric
of America.
Only a virtuous people are capable of freedom. As
nations become corrupt and vicious, they have more
need of masters. Benjamin Franklin

Maybe youve heard thesaying, Attitude is every-
thing. Well, our attitudes
are so important because
they make the difference
between having a miser-
able life and a life of joy
and peace.
The Israelites spent 40
years in the wilder-
nessall because of
their bad attitude. They
thought their enemies
were the problem, but it
was really their attitude. Here are seven common
bad attitudes that keep
people stuck in the
wilderness.
Bd Attitude #1BASING THE FUTURE ON
THE PAST
The Israelites had a negative attitude
about their future. They based all
their expectations on what had hap-
pened in the past and what they saw
in their present circumstances. They
lacked a positive vision.
If youre dwelling on a painful past,
decide to believe by faith, I know God
has good plans for me and something
good is going to happen to me.
When you speak Gods Word over
your circumstances, it unleashes His
power and provision in your life.
Bd Attitude #2SOMEBODY ELSE NEEDS TO TAKE
RESPONSIBILITY
Maybe because youve been hurt, you
feel like its someone elses job to get
you out of the mess youre in. I wantto encourage you to stop looking to
other people to fix your problems.
Instead, say, Im a responsible person
and I dont expect anyone to do for me
what God has empowered me to do for
myself. And remember, God doesnt
expect you to do it all alone. Ask Him
to help you. He will do it!
Bd Attitude #3PLEASE MAKE THINGS EASY
FOR ME
Maybe you think its just too hard and
you just cant take it anymore. But you
are stronger than you think! Dont let
the enemy convince you that you are
helpless. Gods Word says, I can do all
things through Christ who strength-
ens me (Philippians 4:13 NKJV). Look
to Him to pull you up and give you
strength to deal with whatever life
throws at you.
Bd Attitude #4GRUMBLING, FAULT-FINDING AND
COMPLAINING
Do you know what a fault finder
is? Its someone who ignores all the
good qualities in people and looksfor the onething they dont like. But
in Philippians 2, Paul teaches that
we are to have a humble, unselfish
attitude that puts other people first.
Instead of looking for whats wrong or
bad in people, learn to have a thankful

attitude. Focus on God and all the
good things He has done in your life.
Bd Attitude #5I SHOULDNT HAVE TO WAIT
Too often we get impatient with God.
We want what we want, and we want
it NOW. Learn how to wait on God.
Trust Him to do things in His timing
and be willing to pray, Lord, if its not
right for me, I dont want it anyway.
We all spend more time waiting than
doing anything else, so learn to wait
well. Instead of saying, Ill be happy
when why not be happy now? As you
learn to wait patiently, youre showing
God you are mature enough to handle
the things He wants to give you.
Bd Attitude #6ITS SOMEBODY ELSES FAULT
In the book of Genesis, when God con-
fronted Adam and Eve about eating
the forbidden fruit, Adam blamed
Eve. Eve blamed the devil. Nobody
was willing to face the truth and
say, I made a big mistakeI take full
responsibility. God wants us to takeresponsibility for our mistakes and
admit them. When we do that, were
forgiven and we can move forward. So
when you do something wrong, dont
shift the blame. Confess it, ask for
forgiveness and move on.
Bd Attitude #7SELF-PITY
Self-pity is a big waste of t ime, doesnt
change anything and it just makesyou miserable. Do you really want to
go on being miserable? God wants to
give you beauty for your ashes, but
first you have to surrender your ashes.
The bottom line is, you can be pitiful
or powerful, but you cant be both.
Why not choose to be powerful?
t Attitude llYou Choose?
People can take a lot of things away
from you, but no one can take away
your good attitude. Even if youre
dealing with a lifetime of negative
or destructive attitudes, its not too
late to change. Through the power of
the Holy Spirit, you can get there. Its
never too late as long as you let God be
in charge of the process.
PEOPLE CAN TAKE
A LOT OF THINGS
AWAY FROM YOU,
BUT NO ONE
CAN TAKE AWAY
YOURGOODATTITUDE.

I HAD WORKED FOR 20 YEARSas a teacher,
coach and administrator. Having climbed the
ladder, I was 45 years old and supposed to be in
the prime of my career.
Instead, through a series of events, I suddenly
found myself out of a job with limited prospects
for another one in that field. I was stuck.
When youre twenty-something, you expect
these kinds of things. But when youre forty-something, you ask yourself, Do I have it in me
to start all over again?
THE QUESTION THAT KEPT RUNNING
THROUGH MY MIND WAS,Where do I start?Ill
never forget what my wife said to me: The place to
start is just to start.
I taught English for 15 years, and it has always
been my dream to someday write a book. In fact,
deep down I knew that writing was a big part of
Gods plan for my life.
So I began. While I searched for work, I began
writing a blog. The Lord used peoples positive
responses to really encourage me. Before long, I
thought, I can really do this.
One thing led to another and eventually, God led
me right to the perfect new position for mea
fresh beginning in a new career.
ITS A TREMENDOUS STRUGGLE TO OVER-
COMEa fractured ego and resist wallowing in theloss of a dream. Its even more difficult to sum-
mon the energyand humilityto start all over
again at square one.
At the time, my circumstances seemed over-
whelming. But that dead end was the very
thing God used to bring me to a place Ive always
wanted to go.
Ill admit itit was scary in the beginning. But
when I look back, its amazing to see how faith-
fully God led me every step along the way.

HIS NAME WAS DAVE. He was 73,
and he was sick. The diagnosis was
cancer, and suddenly, he was faced
with his mortality in a way he had
never felt it before.
When asked if he believed he would
go to Heaven when he died, Daveresponded, Oh, I dont think theyd
let someone like me into Heaven. Ive
done a lot of bad thingsIm not a very
nice person.
In spite of his reaction, he started
thinking about what is really important
in life.
His friends continued to be there for
him, offering their support as much
as they could. They prayed for Dave, asking God to bring him to salvation
through Christ before his final breath.
His father had been a preacher, so
Dave knew the Gospel. When his
friends encouraged him to turn to God
now and make peace with his Maker,
Dave assured them he knew what to
do. He knew he needed to sincerely
repent of his sins, and trust Gods unconditional love and
forgiveness for every bad thing he had ever done, to receive
Christ as his Savior. Yet, he seemed resistant.
Maybe he felt so condemned by his past that the idea that
God would give him a clean slate based on a simple prayer
seemed too good to be true. Maybe the years of hurt and
unforgiveness seemed too hard to let go.
The wonderful news is Dave did give his heart to Christ. The
power of Gods love and grace penetrated his heart, and he
was able to receive that love and be born again!
How about you? Do you have a personal relationship with
Jesus? If your answer is no, you can trust His love for you
no matter who you are or what youve doneand be born
again. This prayer can help you get started:
Lord Jesus, thank You for giving Your life on the cross so I
can confess my sin and be forgiven, cleansed and made wholethrough the sacrifice You made. Im sorry for my sinplease
forgive me. I want to be born again and live for You! I love You,
Lord. Thank You for my salvation. In Jesus name, amen.
If youve accepted Christ as your Savior, congratulations!
