Transportation and Logistics
1.Brief Introduction to School of Transportation and
Logistics
School of Transportation and Logistics at Southwest Jiaotong University was
established in 1956 at Tangshan. The school has a long history and has played a
critical role in the university since the university features transportation related majors.
Although School of Transportation and Logistics was of small size when it was first
established, the faculty and staff members had endeavored to make it stronger since
then. After the reform and opening-up policy, the school has made significant
achievements in scientific research and student teaching.
At present, our school has a complete education system from the undergraduate
and graduate students. It has one post-doctoral station in transportation engineering;
four doctoral programs: Transportation Planning and Management,
Traffic Engineering, System Engineering and Logistics Engineering; five master
programs: Transportation Planning and Management, Traffic Engineering, System
Science, Safety Science and Engineering, and Logistics Engineering; 3 engineering
master programs: Transportation Engineering, Safety Engineering and Logistics
Engineering; 5 undergraduate programs: Transportation Engineering, Traffic
Engineering, and Safety Engineering, Logistics Engineering and Logistics
Management, among which, Transportation Engineering and Traffic Engineering are
officially evaluated as national level top programs. The first level subject of this
school belongs to Transportation Engineering, maintains as top one in the evaluation
of Ministry of Education for ten consecutive years.
The school has strong faculty force and rich teaching facilities. It possesses a
National United Engineering Laboratory of Integrated and Intelligent
Transportation, a national teaching exemplary center, two provincial key laboratories
and five provincial education bases. The faculty of the school includes a member of
China Engineering Academy (jointly appointed), two National Distinguished Teachers,
26 Ph.D supervisors, around 30 professors, more than 50 associate professors, over 40
part-time and visiting professors, more 1700 undergraduate students, more than 1300
graduates students (including master and Ph.D students). A professor is listed in ―New
Century Excellent Talents in University‖ of Ministry of Education, two professors are
listed in "Hundred Talents Program" of Sichuan Province, and three professors are
"Academic Leaders of Sichuan Province". In the past 50 years, the school has
3
cultivated nearly ten thousand graduates in the field of transportation and logistics for
our country, which has made a great contribution for the construction and
development of national transportation and modern logistics.
The school research production is fruitful. In recent years, it has undertaken more
than 200 national and provincial research projects including the national "863" project
and the national "Twelfth Five-Year" scientific and technological projects, which has
won more than 30 national and provincial scientific and technological achievements
including the national scientific and technological progress and other awards. We are
at the leading level of China on compiling train operation diagram using computer,
dispatch and direction of trains, intelligent transportation and modern Logistics.
At present, our school has a key national level-two major (transportation planning and
management), a key provincial level-two major (system engineering), and two
national level-one majors (system science, safety science and engineering). Our
school has one post-doctoral station in transportation engineering; four doctoral
programs: Transportation Planning and Management, Traffic Engineering, System
Engineering and Logistics Engineering; five master
programs: Transportation Planning and Management, Traffic Engineering, System
Science, Safety Science and Engineering, and Logistics Engineering; 3 engineering
master programs: Transportation Engineering, Safety Engineering and Logistics
Engineering; 5 undergraduate programs: Transportation Engineering, Traffic
Engineering, and Safety Engineering, Logistics Engineering and Logistics
Management, among which, Transportation Engineering, Traffic Engineering, and
Logistics Engineering are officially evaluated as top and feature national level
program, feature national level program, and feature provincial level program.
Student organization: Graduate Student Union, Undergraduate Student Union,
Committee of Communist Youth League, Young Volunteers Association, New Media
of Yun Yun, Campus Management Center, Class and Communist Youth League Union,
Student Fair Center, Career Guidance Service Center, Technology Association, and
Logistics Association.
In order to facilitate the transformation of research results to productivity, 20
research institutes have been set up at our school. They are Logistics research institute,
Training center of train operation diagram compilation, Research center of cargo
transportation, Research institute of passenger transportation, Research institute of
system engineering, Research institute of system science, Research institute of urban

Mongkut‘s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang , and etc.
Meanwhile, we have held the advanced management international seminars,
opened courses of high-speed-railway operation and management for Laos, trained
the managers and university teacher of Ethiopia, and educated more than one hundred
students for Central Asia, Southeast Asian, Africa and South American, becoming a
significant international education basis of the talents of high-speed-railway transport
organization. The school has successfully held five ―International Conference on
Transportation Engineering‖ and four ―International Conference on Logistics
