NASHVILLE, TN—June 2012—The American Association for State and Local History (AASLH)
proudly announces that the Bangor Museum and History Center and Bangor High School are the recipi-
ents of an Award of Merit from the AASLH Leadership in History Awards for Exploring Historic Land-
scapes Using GIS: The Great Bangor Fire of 1911. The AASLH Leadership in History Awards, now in its
67th year, is the most prestigious recognition for achievement in the preservation and interpretation of
state and local history.
AASLH is also pleased to announce that, in addition to the Award of Merit, the Bangor Museum and History Center and
Bangor High School, were also selected as a 2013 HIP (History in Progress) Award winner by the Leadership in History
awards committee.
The HIP Award, given at the discretion of the Committee, is an additional award for an Award of Merit winner whose
nomination is highly inspirational, exhibits exceptional scholarship, and/or is exceedingly entrepreneurial in terms of
funding, partnerships, or collaborations, creative problem solving, or unusual project design and inclusiveness. Only three

tation of the awards will be made at a special banquet during the 2012 AASLH Annual Meeting in Salt Lake City, Utah,

Waterfront Concerts pumps $30 million into Bangor Economy
From Bangor Daily News:
“BANGOR, Maine — The
Waterfront Concerts Series and its
big-name acts have generated more than $30 million for the
local economy in its first three years, according to a
University of Maine study.
Since its first event, a July 2010 Celtic Woman
show, Waterfront Concerts has drawn more than 200,000
people, with the number of offerings and attendance figures
building each year. The concert series, which had seven
events in its first year and 17 in each of the past two, has
brought 41 acts to Bangor.
Since 2010, concertgoers have spent $18.6 million,
which led to additional indirect spending of about $11.8
million, according to Gabe’s study. With each year of
concerts, the economic impact of the series has grown. ”
