iGEM2009 SHORT COURSE
Lesson1
Introduction to iGEM and Synthetic Biology
什麼是合成生物學 ??
Synthetic biology is an emerging area of research that can broadly be described as - the design and construction of novel artificial biological pathways, organisms or devices, or -the redesign of existing natural biological systems.

What is Synthetic Biology?
1. 傳統的生物學 Reverse engineering: Taking apart sequenced whole genomes through cross-genome comparison to see how they work.
2. 合成生物學 Forward engineering: Design and build engineered biological systems to test biological hypothesis.

什麼是 iGEM??
It is an abbreviation of the "international Genetically Engineered Machine" competition.
It is organized by Massachusetts Institute of Technology
It is a Synthetic Biology competition of students.
The objective of iGEM competition is to imagine, engineer, and assemble an engineered biological system using DNA parts.
the completed project will then be presented at iGEM jamboree in Boston in November.
