Providing science-based expertise and consensus for the global sector and being the global voice of dairy to key IGOs

Strategic Plan for 3 years (2016 – 2018) based on the identified overall priorities

Operational Plan for each year, including the 4-6 priority items to showcase

Criteria used for selection of priorities

Potential impact of the work for the dairy sector

Alignment with the four strategic priorities

Potential for delivering IDF’s value

Resource requirements for IDF Staff and budget

Six IDF Priority Items for 2016

Provide harmonized dispute resolution methods for testing compliance to regulations and trade specifications with adoption of joint IDF/ISO/AOAC analytical standards for infant formula and milk products by Codex

Provide guidance for the dairy sector to improve its impact on biodiversity at farm and processing level

Ensure the CFS HLPE report on Sustainable Agricultural Development for Food Security and Nutrition demonstrates the importance of dairy for sustainable nutritional security

Maintain the differentiation of the Nitrogen Conversion Factor for milk products in Codex Standards (incl. update IDF Bulletin No 405/2006), to ensure nutritional and economic sustainability

2017: A new additional priority item : AMR

• Antimicrobial resistance is a major concern, requiring alignment from the dairy sector on communication, to explain aspects currently not properly conveyed.

• An IDF Task Force is set among experts from SCRCC (Residues and Chemical Contaminants), SCAMAC (Analytical Methods for Additives and Contaminants), SCAHW (Animal Health and Welfare) and SCMH (Microbiological Hygiene) to collect information on the facts, the situation, the initiatives, the achievements and apparent misconceptions from the perspective of the dairy sector and to make a clear communication to the outside world, in response to the FAO request for more information.
