Successful turnaround on the UKCS – Norway is 10- 15 year behind
• Under-explored compared to other mature regions such as UKCS and Gulf of Mexico
– Companies have targeted elephant finds, but the average find rate has been only 30m boe in recent years (adjusted for Ormen Lange)
– NPD indicates 7bn barrels to be found in the North Sea in field size 30-60mb
• Improved tax rules reduce the funding need
– Guaranteed 78% cash back on unsuccessful exploration
• More acreage offered
– More aggressive licence rounds
– Possible new Petoro down sale
• Minimum risk of increase in government take
Source: Norsk Hydro, Petrobank
• UKCS exploration wells drilled: 2400
• NCS exploration wells drilled: 600
The NOCS is under-explored and very attractive for smaller players
