EUROPEAN YOUTH PARLIAMENT
EUROPEAN YOUTH PARLIAMENT ON THE INTERNATIONAL LEVEL
The European Youth Parliament (EYP) is a non-governmental, nonprofit, political-ly neutral and educational organisation. It is entirely managed by young people and is exlusively aimed at young people. The organisation was founded in 1987 in Fontainebleau, France. Since then, it has extended to many countries in Europe. It is now established in 41 countries, from Portugal to Russia and from Turkey to Finland.
EUROPEAN YOUTH PARLIAMENT IN SWITZERLAND
EYP Switzerland is a platform of debate in English for young people sharing a passion for issues related to the society of today and international exchange. Its main goals are:
• Raise awareness among the youth about important issues related to Switzerland, Europe and the world and thereby encourage a deeper un-derstanding of political mechanisms;
• Promote international cohesion and

intercultural dialogue;• Enable young people to apply their
knowledge in an extracurricular context and acquire additional skills, such as public speaking, debating in a committee and writing a resolution;
• Provide a platform allowing them to express their own ideas without ha-ving to represent a given country or organisation.
The organisation EYP Switzerland was
founded in 1996. Every year, it organises four Regional Sessions which allow dele-gates to attend the yearly National Selec-tion Conference, taking place in Geneva next September. Participation at the NSC gives the delegates the chance to be se-lected for events of the EYP abroad.

INTRODUCTION
The next National Selection Conference of EYP Switzerland will take place in Geneva from the 6th to the 11th September 2016. We are particularly pleased that Geneva has been selected as the host city, as this is the first time it will host a National Selection Conference since the creation of EYP Switzerland 20 years ago. In the last few years, the number of members from Geneva in the organisation has continuously increased and for this reason, Geneva was a legitimate choice for to host the flagship event of our organisation.
This 20th national session will take place under the theme of « Building Peace in a glo-balised world ».

PARTICIPANTS
The participants of the session are divided into four main groups, namely the organi-sers, the journalists, the chairpersons and the delegates.
The organisers are in charge of the prepa-ration and make sure that the session runs smoothly. The organisers, as well as all the participants, are young volunteers who seek to share the positive experience of EYP they themselves enjoyed.
The media team create newspapers, maga-zines and videos for the participants. Their work helps to go deeper into the various to-pics of the session and enhance the event through their writings and photographs. They receive a practical training in journalism and communication.
The last group of participants consists of the delegates, who are the core of the session. They discuss and debate different topics. They are students between the ages of 16 and 19, coming from various schools across Switzerland. In addition to this majority of Swiss, about twenty foreign delegates are in-vited to join the event. They bring a different vision and point of view, both culturally and politically. This session will bring together about 120 delegates, which will be split into
10 committees.

The chairpersons are experienced members who supervise the committees. Their task is to moderate the debates, without influencing the delegates, and to ensure everyone feels comfortable and actively participates within his or her committee. Many of the journalists and chairpersons come from other member countries of EYP. The chairpersons are lead by an experienced Session Board composed of President and Vice Presidents.

The first of the six days will be devoted to the reception and the training of the orga-nisers, journalists and chairpersons.
The second day marks the arrival of the delegates. To ensure a total cohe-sion and trust within each committee, they take part in teambuilding activities. Teambuilding is a process consisting of informal games that develop communi-cation, team spirit and the ability to solve problems with others.
The following two days are devoted to Committee Work. This is when delegates share their knowledge and ideas, and compare their opinions about the topic assigned to their committee. To provide additional information and encourage reflection, experts from international, governmental and non-governmental or-ganisations and from the university sec-tor will be invited to share their specific knowledge with the delegates. The ulti-mate goal of this process is to find solu-tions and to compile them in a resolution modelled after those written by the Euro-
pean Parliament.The resolutions are then presented at the General Assembly which takes place during the last two days. The Assembly is presided by an experienced member of the organisation invited from abroad. His/her goal is to ensure the smooth run-ning of the debates. Every resolution is the center of a 45-minutes discussion, during which all delegates can partici-pate, in order to create a constructive de-bate for each topic.
The session is enhanced by a variety of cultural activities, ranging from Swiss Village, where each school shares the culinary specialties of its region, to the Concert, allowing everyone to share their artistic talents. This program is essential for the informal exchange and friendly at-mosphere of the session.
About sixty particularly active and dedi-cated delegates will have the opportunity to take part in other sessions, among the more than 120 events held annually in Eu-rope by the European Youth Parliament.
