The Sha Tin 1200m circuit is very speed centric, with a strong historical bias toward horses in forward positions. PENIAPHOBIA is a clear and likely leader, and won the 2015 HK Sprint after crossing from the outside barrier. The likelihood of horses winning from further back in the field will be directly related to the strength of the speed up front, i.e., the pressure that is brought to bear on the leader. Having said that, last year’s winner, the Australian champion CHAUTAUQUA, came from last at the 800m, where he was 9 lengths off the lead.
