GENERAL PROCEDURES:
All hazardous material incidents are to be reported immediately. Every hazardous material spill is poten-tially dangerous and should be treated with respect. Your first responsibility is for the safety of your fel-low associates and yourself. Handling a hazardous material incident improperly could result in seriousinjury or death. Follow these simple procedures, use common sense, and be cautious.
PROCEDURES TO FOLLOW:
1. Isolate the spill or contaminated hazard area. This can be accomplished by relocatingthe spilled product or moving people by evacuating the immediate area. Never attemptto move spilled product until you have properly identified the material. Should therelease of Hazardous Material occur inside a trailer you may remove that unit to a suit
able location away from the unloading or loading area.2. Determine what product or products of Hazardous Material have been released. In an
attempt to identify the material spilled always approach the hazard area from an up- wind direction. Identification of the Hazardous Material can be achieved by several

3. After the product has been properly identified check to see what hazards are presentincluding, health hazards, fire or explosion hazards, or if the material is poisonous byinhalation.
4. Determine if the Hazard is a Non-Serious or Serious.5. After identification of Hazardous Material has been made, notify your assigned
Supervisor and Safety Dept..6. Assist in the immediate control of the product involved.7. Never touch, smell, stand in, or walk through any contaminated product. Avoid
inhaling fumes, smoke or vapors even if no hazardous materials are involved. Do notassume that gases or vapors are harmless just because they do not have an odor.
NON-SERIOUS SPILL PROCEDURES:a) Stop the spill by turning pail, drum, box or bag on its side with ruptured
side up;b) Contain any liquid spilled with absorbents;c) After spill has been contained, contact your terminal’s designated Safety
Dept. for arrangements to have residue removed;- In the event that a small spill occurs and clean-up operations are
conducted internally, NEVER dispose of hazardous materials orresidue in a trash can or dumpster;
e) Complete the Hazardous Material Spill Report.
SERIOUS SPILL PROCEDURES:
a) Evacuate the immediate area, (follow the terminal evacuation plan if needbe);
b) Call an ambulance if someone is badly injured or appears to be sufferingfrom chemical exposure; *Always have a copy of the Hazardous MaterialsMSDS available for the medical support personnel
c) Do not attempt to walk through, touch or smell any hazardous material thatis classified as poison by inhalation, or is listed on the shipper papers as aRQ;
