• Dioscorea species are true yams. • Not to be confused with a) Sweet potato or ratalu, shakarkand (Hindi)

b) Jimikand or suran (Hindi) • According to Ayurvedic Pharmacopoeia,

"ratalu“ (Bengali) is Dioscorea bulbifera.
