common MISCONCEPTIONS
SOCIAL INNOVATION : is HUMANITARIAN WORK is SOCIAL ENTERPRENEURSHIP is INNOVATIVE ART PRACTICE is BUSINESS INNOVATION Is TECHNOLOGICAL INNOVATION
WHY? ▣The word 'innovation' is often used in an inappropriate context and/or for the description of something which is not innovative; ▣The concepts of ‘invention’ and ‘innovation’ are often mixed; ▣There are more examples of social entrepreneurship than those of social innovations; ▣There is a number of social innovations presented by media/ digital media which are not described as social innovations; ▣There is a lack of basic contact data for the project or the leader; ▣There is a number of innovations performed by Universities but with the lack of information about their impact and results.
Some aspects that exist...
SOCIO ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT importance of innovations for socio-economic development is recognized and to some extent promoted.
TECHNOLOGY RELATED predominantly understood and linked to universities and businesses and in majority cases associated only with technology-related solutions,
INFRASTRUCTURE No basic infrastructure has been developed to support socially innovative activities.
POLICY There are some policy measures and activities related to the creation of support environment but mostly for social entrepreneurs.
INTERMEDIARY SUPPORT support to social entrepreneurs through initiatives such as start-up incubators and social business/social investment opportunities.
AWARDS & COMPETITIONS There are some SI awards initiatives (National foundation for civil society, Association of cities etc.). Nothing on the level of the city of Zagreb.
Positive trend Despite lack of methodologies and indicators for measuring and mapping social innovation, there is in fact a surprising number of social innovations and social innovators that should be further promoted and supported in Croatia and Zagreb.
