Preface
Competition in national and international markets has increased strongly in recent years. The
increased complexity of our products and the increasing individuality of our customers pose
strong challenges for our company, and thereby to the logistics area as regards quality and
flexibility.
From these challenges, Volkswagen Group of America Chattanooga Operations, LLC,
together with its affiliated Volkswagen Group of America, Inc.(collectively “Volkswagen Group
of America”), has defined objectives that, when met, will contribute towards establishing
Volkswagen as the leading automotive brand. Among others, these objectives include a clear
increase in vehicle production and the generation of long-term customer enthusiasm for the
Volkswagen brand in regard to reliability and innovation.
However, Volkswagen Group of America can only master this challenge in cooperation with
its suppliers, so we need you as a reliable and competent business partner who pursues the
same customer-oriented goals as we do. For this reason, we request that you familiarize
yourself with the processes described in this manual and follow these processes. These
standard processes are the basis for cooperation with Volkswagen Group of America. They
increase reliability and reduce waste, so they save costs for you and for us.
Naturally, cooperation based on partnership also means that the processes described here
have to be tested continuously and improved where necessary. Volkswagen Group of
America therefore reserves the right to make any necessary changes to the processes.
Volkswagen AG(VWAG) acts as a service provider for Volkswagen Group of America and
VWAG’s other affiliates(collectively “Volkswagen”). Therefore Volkswagen Group of America
is able to use and provide access to the Volkswagen supplier portal.
The standards described in this manual apply for all sites of Volkswagen Group of America
Chattanooga Operations, LLC and shall be further subject to Volkswagen Group of America’s
terms and conditions available at
http://www.vwgroupsupply.com/b2b/vwb2b_folder/supply2public/en/weltweit_vertreten/vw_gro
up_of_america/einkaufsbedingungen.html. To the extent the provisions in this manual are
inconsistent with the terms and conditions, the provisions in this manual shall govern.

The most up-to-date version of this manual is always available for download from the
supplier portal.
Thank you for your cooperation.

A Volkswagen production system (VPS)
OBJECTIVE OF THIS CHAPTER
The Volkswagen production system (VPS) is an essential component of the Volkswagen
Group of America production strategy. This chapter provides an overview of how the
VPS is applied at Volkswagen Group of America by introducing the objectives and core
elements. It also describes why the VPS is relevant to you when cooperating with
Volkswagen Group of America.
CONTENTS
A.1 What is the VPS?
A.2 Goals of the VPS
A.3 What the VPS means for you
A.4 Core elements of the VPS
CORE POINTS
The Volkswagen production system (VPS) is the basis for the development of
Volkswagen into a synchronous company oriented towards value creation.
Volkswagen is counting on your support and cooperation during this
development into a synchronous company oriented towards value creation.
The core elements of the Volkswagen production system (VPS) consist of a
variety of basics and the four columns “Cycle”, “Flow”, “Pull” and “Perfection”.
VWGoA Chattanooga Operations, LLC – All rights reserved Version 1.0 Page A-2
A.1 What is VPS?
VPS stands for “Volkswagen production system” and describes the basics, principles and
maxims according to which the production processes at Volkswagen Group of America are
conceived, performed and continuously redeveloped. VPS applies for all production sites and
production areas of Volkswagen Group of America.
A.2 Goals of the VPS
Our customers and competition expect us to provide the highest quality for products and
processes, to react quickly to customer requests, to complete production in time for
deadlines, and to run cost-effective processes to secure the long-term success of the
company.
We achieve this by organizing processes according to certain basic principles and rules and
through consistent compliance, application and redevelopment of these processes. This
creates standards and rules of procedure for all production processes in all production areas.
The final objective is to create a company that is oriented towards value creation and has
completely synchronized supply chains that are geared towards short lead times, small
inventories and continuous improvement. It is based on clear standards and is people
focused.
A.3 What the VPS means to you
The VPS has to be applied equally in all production sites and production areas.
Our suppliers are closely involved in many of our processes. This means the quality of
processes for Volkswagen and continuous redevelopment depends strongly on your support
and cooperation.
If the aim of a synchronous business, based on added value, is to be achieved, you need to
implement the same basic principles and guidelines as Volkswagen Group of America. To
achieve this, you must implement a process organization and control structure that complies
with the rules of the VPS. This is the only way to generate benefits for all parties along the
process chain.
VWGoA Chattanooga Operations, LLC – All rights reserved Version 1.0 Page A-3
A.4 Core elements of the VPS
Like any structure, a variety of basics form a stable foundation for the four columns; Tact,
Flow, Pull and Perfection. These in turn contribute to an added value oriented synchronized
production. However, potentials can only be realized efficiently if all principles are
implemented consistently.
The implementation of these principles is naturally part of the new logistics concept, whose
processes are described in this manual. Controlled material provision, for example,
contributes to the implementation of the “Perfection” principle, while the release system
operated by Volkswagen Group of America implements the “Pull” principle in logistics.
VWGoA Chattanooga Operations, LLC – All rights reserved Version 1.0 Page A-4
a Working with standards
Working with standards is the basis for the
development of routine. Within the cycle, everyone
follows the same work sequence. Deviation from the
standard causes problems, so the goal is to ensure
defined standards and initiate long-term solutions in
case of deviations.
b Avoiding waste
The consistent elimination of waste in processes and
the product increases the proportion of value-creating
tasks. In the ideal state, this means that every
remaining process step is necessary and cannot be
omitted. There are nine types of waste.
c Fixed customer cycle
The fixed customer cycle sets the pace for production
and the supporting processes, and creates a stable
and constant cycle level. It is the basis for the
integrated design of product, process, operating
equipment and infrastructure. For this reason,
suppliers also work within the fixed customer cycle of
Volkswagen Group of America.

d Flow: Connecting the processes
The flow principle states that material and
information flow in the customer cycle. Processes
and work steps are arranged according to the
production process and distributed among different
workplaces according to the customer cycle. The
only buffers used are necessary to the process.
Deviations from the standard are visible and can be
removed.
Pull: The customer controls production
The pull principle means that each process obtains
only those parts and information from the previous
process that are actually required. Simultaneously,
the up-stream process produces only what the down-
stream process consumes. This keeps inventories to
a minimum and reduces lead times. System control
becomes simpler.
Perfection: 100% quality from the process
The entire product can only be OK without breaching
the standards if each sub-process transfers OK parts
only. Our system ensures that each error occurs only
once, and that errors are not passed on to the
customer. The goal is to pass on parts that are 100%
OK to down-stream processes.

C EDI and supplier portal
OBJECTIVE OF THIS CHAPTER
Suppliers have to use EDI and have access to the supplier portal in order to work with
Volkswagen Group of America.
For this reason, this chapter will provide an overview of how Volkswagen Group of
America uses EDI to exchange data with you. It will describe the process of setting up
EDI for communication with Volkswagen Group of America and the EDI message
formats in use.
This chapter will also describe how to register for the supplier portal, log on to the portal
and print out relevant documents there.
TOPICALITY
As the EDI details are still in a detailing process, this chapter will not cover all details at
this point of time, November 2009.
Topics which are still to be detailed include:

Design of the communication messages content (field)
CONTENTS
C.1 Electronic Data Interchange (EDI)
C.2 Supplier portal
VWGoA Chattanooga Operations, LLC – All rights reserved Version 1.0 Page C-2
CORE POINTS
EDI communication to Volkswagen in the U.S. works on TCP/IP internet point-to-
point connections based on the OFTP2 – Protocol. As an exception, and only if you
bear all the costs, you may use selected VANS.
The transmission protocol used is the OFTP2 (Odette File Transfer Protocol).
The EDIFACT EDI standards are available.
The coordination of operation and regular schedules is also done via the supplier
portal.
C.1 Electronic Data Interchange (EDI)
C.1.1 What is EDI and what is it used for?
EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) is the exchange of structured business data between the
information systems of external partners, and is based on message standards (e.g. VDA,
EDIFACT) and communication standards (e.g. OFTP-ODETTE file transfer protocol
automotive industry).
EDI is indispensable for efficient business processes with our suppliers, and is the
precondition for optimized cooperation between Volkswagen Group of America and our
suppliers. EDI benefits both partners. We expect the supplier to provide integrated EDI
support for the entire business process. The supplier benefits from the integration of EDI
messages into the in-house systems, where messages are based on each other in regard to
data.
EDI is used in the process to transmit weekly call-off previews, daily delivery call-offs and the
data for delivery notes and transport.
We expect that your EDI system is ready to receive 24 hours a day and 7
days a week, so that the EDI traffic can run in a smooth and timely fashion.
Readiness to receive must not be confused with the editing and processing
of the data in the production system of the supplier. If this is not possible,
VWGoA Chattanooga Operations, LLC – All rights reserved Version 1.0 Page C-3
you must still ensure that the data transmitted by Volkswagen Group of
America can be saved safely on a server until they can be edited or
processed.
C.1.2 Data flow
EDI communication to Volkswagen in the U.S. works on TCP/IP internet point-to-point
connections based on the OFTP2 – Protocol. VANS (Value Added Network Services), where
communication is handled via a provider, are only permitted in exceptional cases.
If you intend to use a provider, you have to notify Volkswagen Group of
America in writing in advance. Volkswagen Group of America reserves the
right to authorize the provider.
Volkswagen will not bear any costs arising out of or resulting from the use
of VANS.

C.1.3 EDI message formats in use
The weekly messages are transmitted by Volkswagen Group of America via EDI using the
following EDI message formats:
The delivery pre – advice is transmitted once a week, with a time period of six months.
Weeks one to three are detailed to the day, while the rest is detailed to the week. The call-off
preview will be transmitted in the format EDIFACT DELFOR.
Dispatch call – offs are transmitted one day before collection, with the next collection date as
the reference time. Transmission is done using the EDIFACT GLOBAL DELJIT format.
ASN has to be transmitted to VWGoA using the EDIFACT DESADV format.
VWGoA Chattanooga Operations, LLC – All rights reserved Version 1.0 Page C-6
The document formats in the delivery process are as follows:
1) Documents accompanying the shipment
a. The Pick-up-sheet (PUS) represents the transport and shipping documents
according to VDA 4939. It will be based on the ASN.
The documents can be generated with a free to use software from
Volkswagen, the so called TSB generator. It will be required to be printed by
the logistics partner. If no logistics partner is involved in the delivery process it
has to be created by the supplier.
2) Container papers
a. Container papers are represented by GTL (Global Transport Label)
b. Additionally it may be required to print other container papers for visualization
of important information. The details are still being planned at the moment.
VWGoA Chattanooga Operations, LLC – All rights reserved Version 1.0 Page C-7
C.1.4 Setting up EDI for communication with Volkswagen
Please follow the following steps to set up the EDI. Please note that the data communication
runs solely via the VWAG computer center in Wolfsburg.
VWAG acts as a service provider of Volkswagen Group of America and therefore
Volkswagen Group of America is able to use and provide access to the Volkswagen supplier
portal.
a) Applying for the ODETTE code
You are required an organization code called ODETTE-ID (“OSCAR - code”) in order to
communicate with Volkswagen Group of America. You can apply for this code at
https://forum.odette.org/OFTP
b) Network connection / OFTP2 software
Depending on the network service you have selected, you will have to apply for an
appropriate connection from a network operator. All communication will run via the OFTP2
standard. Therefore you will have to get an OFTP2 software. Altogether you will need:
Internet connection + digital certificate + ODETTE-ID + OFTP2 Software.
c) Applying to set up a technical connection
To set up an EDI connection to Volkswagen Group of America, go to
http://www.vwgroupsupply.com/b2b/vwb2b_folder/supply2public/en/zusammenarbeit/edi_ele
ktronischer/downloads.html
and use the “EDI-Antrag / EDI application form” fax/email form. Please do not send the form
until you have received the ODETTE-ID from the VDA and your network connection provided
by a network provider is operational.
Once you have sent the fax/email application, you will receive an email detailing the missing
parameters (e.g. the send and receive password required for the connection). You will also
receive the station ID defined for you when the connection is set up. This station ID is used
as a clear identification for EDI communication with you.
VWGoA Chattanooga Operations, LLC – All rights reserved Version 1.0 Page C-8
d) Transmission test
Before the EDI transmissions are used for operational purposes, you have to test the
transmission path. The Wolfsburg computer center provides a loop test for this purpose. You
have to send a non-empty file with any contents (and no larger than 10 KB) with the name
“LOOPTEST” to the Wolfsburg computer center (station ID = R11).
When the file is received successfully at the Wolfsburg computer center, it is automatically
returned to you. Once you have received the loop test file, you will know that data transfer in
both directions is possible.
If, in an exceptional case, the loop test is insufficient for testing the technical connection, the
Wolfsburg computer center can transmit a test file.
e) Live operation
After a successful loop test, or after test data have been successfully transmitted, the
connection is released for live data exchange. In general, the EDI standard process begins
with the delivery pre-advice.
For information on beginning the live data exchange, or if technical transmission problems
occur during live operation, please contact the contact person for EDI (see chapter B).

company in our supplier database. He or she then has to accept electronically the B2B user
agreement that regulates the digital communication between Volkswagen Group of America
and your company. At the same time, your company sets up an administrator for the supplier
portal in the B2B user agreement.
The administrator at your company is responsible for allocating and
managing the users of the applications available to you.
If you have questions on registering, please contact our hotline, which is available 24
hours/day, 7 days/week.

All access permissions and user IDs are linked directly to the valid DUNS number. If changes
are made to the company (e.g. changes to the legal form or a new address), a new DUNS
number will usually be allocated.
However, the local supplier number allocated by Volkswagen Group of America usually
remains unchanged. You will therefore receive an email requesting you to register the new
DUNS number in the closed area of the supplier portal within two weeks. Once this period
has elapsed, the “old” local supplier numbers are allocated to the new DUNS number.
You have to ensure that access to the closed area of the supplier portal is
possible at all times.

C.2.6 Data maintenance
a) Data required for delivery call-off
The following information is required for delivery call-off and the resulting documents, so you
have to make them available in the LION application in advance via the supplier portal along
with a validity period:
Generation status (design change status)
Hardware status
Software status
Information on the following is also required:
Lot
Minimum shelf life
If required, you have to add these data in the dispatch call-off for each package after
dispatch call-off provision on the supplier platform. Then a new dispatch call-off version is
created and provided to you.
b) Public holiday calendar
To ensure that the logistics processes described in this manual go smoothly, we have to
know when your company has public holidays. These are especially important when
specifying the collection dates in the monthly operation schedules. For this reason, you have
to mark all public holidays for all your plants for the next year in the public holiday calendar
by October of the current year at the latest.
You have to check all data relevant to your company and your products for
validity at regular intervals; any new information has to be added to the
supplier portal and provided to the scheduler.

D Severability clause
Severability; No Implied Waiver. If any provision of this Manual is invalid or unenforceable
under any statute, regulation, ordinance, executive order or other rule of law, the provision
will be deemed reformed or deleted, as the case may be, but only to the extent necessary to
comply with applicable law. The remaining provisions of this Manual will remain in full force
and effect. The failure of Volkswagen at any time to require performance by a supplier of
any provision of the Manual will not affect the right to require performance at any later time
nor will the waiver of Volkswagen of a breach of any provision of the manual constitute a
waiver of any later breach of the same or other provision of the Manual.
