This Canton is the southernmost of Switzerland, and is named after Ticino river. Ticino canton is the only in which Italian is the sole official language.
In canton Ticino 83% of the population speaks Italian, 9% German and 2% Serbo-Croatian.
The official language is Italian but a special Italian called Swiss Italian. This language shows some differences to the Italian spoken in Italy.
