TRANSCRIPT

FROM THE PASTOR...This weekend we connue our series on God's Value- My Priority focusing on the comforng truth that we are predesned to the praise of His glory. It comes from Biblical teaching which highlights God's grace to undeserving sinners in Christ Jesus. Predesnaon means to determine something beforehand. Paul says that “in love” and “before the foundaon of the world,” God “chose” and “predesned” all who are “in Christ” to be beneficiaries of His blessings. God has chosen us, elected us, predesned us to be His adopted children and to be conformed to His Son, Jesus Christ. We are chosen for God's riches in Christ: holiness, adopon, redempon, forgiveness, wisdom, faith, and the Spirit, so that we might be give Him our worship and praise.

Predesnaon is oen misunderstood to be the expression of a blind, determining force, or of an arbitrary God who determines the fates of individuals or naons prior to and in spite of their behavior. While the Bible teaches that people are responsible to a holy God, it also presents a loving God who acts, not reacts- who creates, forgives, and fulfills His good purposes to and through His chosen people.

People will somemes ask, “Why do some people make it to heaven while others do not?” The Bible teaches that anyone who enters heaven gets there by God's gracious choice of us in Christ which comes to us through His Word and Sacraments. Anyone who fails to enter heaven does so because of the consequences of their sin and their rejecon of Jesus, the only Savior from sin provided by God. Predesnaon is given to be a comforng, not a fearful teaching for believers in Christ. The Bible teaches that while God has chosen those who go to heaven, He didn't choose to send others to hell. There is nothing in us or done by us that causes God to choose us. Predesnaon means that our salvaon, from beginning to end, is God's work. We don't deserve to be chosen, but our elecon is a gi of God's grace in Christ that we might glorify God for it.

In the epistle for this week, Paul blesses God for blessing us with every conceivable blessing and goes on to unpack what blessings we have from our Triune God. Paul writes a long sentence containing 202 words of blessing (or eulogy) to the God who has blessed us. The blessings are complete and all-encompassing. God's good and gracious will to us began in Christ before the foundaon of the world and leads us to our eternal home that we may live forever in His presence to the praise of His glorious grace.

God chose us in love for a twofold purpose; first, that we would be holy and blameless before Him, and second, that it will result in us praising Him for His glorious grace. When we come to know His blessings, we are eager to praise Him for His glory and grace to us. Paul concludes each secon of his blessing to the Triune God with the refrain, “To the praise of His glorious grace” or “To the praise of His glory.” Are you one of His chosen and elect? Do you know the grace of God in Christ? If so, are you regularly praying for revival for yourself and others, praising Him for His blessings with other believers, and proclaiming His praises in the world?

Our mission at Trinity is to “connect people in Roselle and beyond to real, loving relaonship with God through Jesus Christ in the power of the Holy Spirit, with each other in a contagious Chrisan community, and with their calling of servanthood in the world.” Join us as we get to know and experience the blessings of our Triune God who calls us by the Gospel, so that we will give Him our adoraon and our praise.
