Propitiation•Romans 3:25-26• Propitiation –

ἱλαστήριον (hilasterion)to appease, reconciliation,atonement – a satisfactory sacrifice offered to COVER one’s sins

•Heb. 10:1-4- But the blood of animals could NOT permanently remove sins!

• Something better was needed – the blood of Jesus (Rom. 3:24-25)

•1 John 4:10 – He was sent to be the propitiation for sins

Justification

•Romans 5:9 • Justify – δικαιόω (dikaioo)

• Only 2 ways to be just in God’s eyes – perfect law keeping OR an appropriate offering

• Since we cannot do the former…

Nearness to God

Makes Peace

•Col. 1:20 • Enmity means to be as an

enemy of, opposed to one

• Sin puts us at enmity against God Rom. 8:7, Jas. 4:4

• But the blood of Jesus makes peace with God.

Sanctification

•Heb. 13:12 • Sanctify - ἁγιάζω (hagiazo), “to

make holy”, to set a part for God

• Christ was able by His blood to set apart a people for God (among those in Israel)

Sanctification

• As Christians, we are God’s special people – 2 Tim. 2:21, 1 Pet. 2:9

• What a privilege to know we are described this way (cf. Heb. 12:22-24)

Cleanses us as believers

•1 John 1:7 - IF we walk in the light, His blood will cleanse us!

• His blood continues to cleanse us after we obey the gospel (when we repent and confess our sins to Him – Acts 8:22, 2 Cor. 7:10-11, 1 John 1:9)

Cleanses your conscience

•Heb. 9:13-14 – cleanse our conscience from dead works

• Coming in contact with the Blood of Jesus can give us peace within! It can give us TRUE hope!

Truly, His blood is precious

What does His blood mean to you?

Are you washed in the blood?
