P2STP CHALLENGESConstruction Activities
Challenges Solution
Unfavorable feedback from
surrounding residents at early
stage
• Received lots of complaints
due to site construction
activities
• Environmental issues i.e.
odour, dust & noise
• Executed communication plan
strategy by carrying out
frequent engagement with
residents
• In environmental aspect,
minimizing the impact by
carrying out continuous
monitoring & fast response for
every complaint
Continuous incoming sewage flow
to the Site
• To decommission 4 out of 6
ponds in order to give way for
construction activities
(underground excavation)
• Providing Temporary Treatment
Facilities (TTF) in the
remaining 2 ponds with
extensive treatment involving
additional surface aerators &
submerged biomedia to cope with
incoming sewage flow
12
P2STP CHALLENGESConstruction Activities
Challenges Solution
Sludge removal
• Huge quantity and difficulty
in off-site disposal as
landfill has limited capacity
• Some of the dried sludge sent
to fertilizer factory to
produce fertilizer
• Used Geotube technology to
desludge and now the dewatered
sludge (biosolids) is reused as
planting soil for the landscape
area.
• Late approval on wayleave from
KTMB to allow for ground
anchor to be installed
underneath KTMB reserve
• Took more than 6 months but
Contractor manage to recover by
increasing the production rate.

P2STP CHALLENGESConstruction Activities
Challenges Solution
Insufficient semi & fully skilled
workers for jet grouting works &
carpentry works
The Contractor brought in skilled
workers from P.R China
Water shortage during water
rationing period
• Reuse of filtered rainwater for
concrete mixing use hence less
dependence on SYABAS water
• Pre-storage of SYABAS water
when supply is available
High water table during
excavation works for the
underground structure
Carried out extensive pumping and
plugging of leakages points
Water seepage after erection of
underground structure during
equipment installation
Requires water pumping for the
areas in order for equipment
installation to be done and
plugging off the affected areas
14
P2STP CHALLENGESDesign Activities
Challenges Solution
Different reference standards
while performing detailed design
i.e. Chinese Standard (GB)
compared with BS/MS (relevant
standards practiced in Malaysia)
• Took longer time to review,
recheck and acceptance of
proposed detailed design (in
multiple submissions)
The D&B Consultants have to do
parallel design to counter check
the proposed design to ensure all
engineering consideration are
complied to BS/MS including all
related drawings detailing.
Different working
culture/practice
• i.e. no preparation of civil
guidance drawings
Amendments / revisions on
structural drawings were carried
out for several times albeit they
involved several minor changes.
