             Rivers  of  Honey  NYC  March  2014  Performers    

 Itoro  Udofia   is   a   first   generation   Nigerian  writer,   musician   and   community   educator.   She  spends   most   of   her   time   working   for   the  liberation   of   Black   Children   from   struggling  backgrounds   and   creating   alternative   learning  spaces  defined  by   the   community  most   effected  by  marginalization.  Her  art  focuses  on  themes  of  love,   Black   womanhood,   cultural   legacies   and  politics.          

 Poet  On  Watch  is  a  southern  rooted  performance  poet  and  screenwriter.  She  has  worked  with  theatre  companies,  universities,  cultural  organizations,  social  institutions,  and  individual  artists  across  North  America,  North  Africa,  Canada  and  Europe  through  her  commissioned  writing  programs.  Poet  On  Watch  has  been  published  in  Mother  tongue  and  Mighty  Real:  An  Anthology  Of  African  American  Same  Gender  Loving  Writing.  She  is  also  the  author  of  two  collections  of  poetry  entitled  Sageburner  Simple  Pleasure  and  Poet  On  Watch  published  by  Freeverse  Publishing  a  division  of  the  Media  Arts  &  Literacy  Institute  www.malsite.org.  To  add  to  her  discography,  Poet  On  Watch  has  just  recorded  and  produced  two  new  dub  poetry  album's  entitled  Sageburner:  Urban  World  Music  Vol.  1  and  Poet  On  Watch:  The  Spoken  Word  Project  please  pick  up  your  copy  today  www.poetonwatch.com      

Resident  Artists    Foxy  Squire  After  completing  the  burlesque  class  

series  by  Deflouered  Productions,  Foxy  has  performed  both  nationally  and  internationally  in  London,  

Connecticut,  California,  Phili,  and  NYC.    Foxy  was  the  headliner  for  DC  Gurly  Show.    Her  motto  is  EMBRACE  YOUR  SPECTACLE.    She  shares  her  love  for  deviant  art  

and  dark  beauty  through  burlesque.  

Karma   Mayet   Johnson  thisiskarma.net      Composer   /multidisciplinary   performer  Karma  Mayet   Johnson’s   recent   appearances  include   FELA!   OFF-­‐BROADWAY   and  Keith+Mendi   Obadike’s   FOUR   ELECTRIC  GHOSTS.   She   is   composer/   director   of   the  Blues   Opera,   Indigo.   Her   poems   have  appeared   in   Renaissance   Noir,   Nocturnes  (re)view   of   the   literary   arts,   Cave   Canem’s  Gathering   Ground,   Redbone   Press’   Voices  Rising.   She   was   honored   as   an   Astraea  Lesbian  Writers  Fund  Finalist  for  her  novel  in  progress,  Nothin  in  All  This  World.   A   frequent   marauder   amongst   Burnt   Sugar,   the   Arkestra  Chamber,   Karma   has   recently   released   the   EP   recording,   September  Songs.  thisiskarma.net    

Formerly  Fone:  I   am   a  thirty   something   year   old  genderfucker   of   Color   from  Brooklyn.   I've   been   writing  poetry   since   the   mid   1990s.  Four   years   ago   I   created   a  facebook   page   with   the   sole  intent  to  network  and  connect  with   REAL   minds.   I   found  them  both  online  and  at  open  

mics.   Sometimes   the   people   I   met   at   open   mics   were   people   I   had  already  connected  with  online.  I  feel  very  happy  and  blessed  to  have  the  opportunity  to  share  my  poetry  and  artistic  expression  with  all  of  you.I  hope  that  my  art  speaks  for  itself.  If  you  have  any  questions,  feel  free  to

Chauvet  Bishop    Originally  from  North  Carolina,  Chauvet  is  a  licensed  massage  therapist/  healer,  and  has  been  the  licensed  massage  therapist  for  Rivers  of  Honey  featured  performers.    She  is  a  poet,  singer,  student  of  life,  supporter  and  lover  of  art  and  all  things  beautiful.    

 

Troi  Lauren   is   innately  an  entertainer.  Whether  on  stage  dancing  or  singing  this  amazing  talent  keeps  the   attention   of   her   audience.   Her   sound   fits  anywhere  between  soulful  and  bedroom  Club.  On  all  spectrums   involuntarily,   and   delightfully,   she   brings  her   audience  on   the   journey  of   her   heart.   Traveling  internationally  with  her  talents  Troi  Lauren,  2013  US  cultural   ambassador,   says   that   "action   without  purpose   and   heart   is   to   act   in   naught."   She   applies  

this   to  her  music  by  writing   songs   from  personal   experience  and  with   the  message  of  self-­‐love,  social  conciousness  and  civic  engagement.    

Jeaninne   Kayembe   –   Host   is   co-­‐founder   of  Philadelphia   Urban   Creators   a   nonprofit   teaching  sustainability  and  entrepreneurship  to  youth  in  north  central  Philly.   When   she's   not   teaching   or   turning   compost   she's  interning   for   Philly's   largest   poetry   collective   Spoken   Soul  215,   helping   run   the   city's   largest   open   mic!   Jeaninne   has  been  performing  and  writing  for  10  years  and  hopes  to  infuse  artistic   and   sustainable   practices   into   less   fortunate  communities  all  over  the  country.        

DJ  Zena  has  been  DJing  for  about  5  years  now.  She  has  experience  playing  for  various  types  of  events,  from  nightclubs  down  to  neighbor  bbq's.  Her  favorite  genres  to  spin  are  old  school  house  and  R&B  music.  I  can  also  do  electro  and  Afro  house,  hip-­‐hop,  dancehall,  alternative,  and  rock  music.  I  have  a  full  setup  and  am  capable  of  entertaining  at  any  event.  My  prices  are  negotiable.  If  anyone's  interested,  hit  me
