EDITORIAL
As I write my editorial few interesting events has taken place in September. Firstly on the 17th of September, the newly formed Malaysian Hindu Advisory Acharya Council had a public forum at Soma Hall. It was said that this council was formed six years ago, but officially registered in 2016, Their main objectives is to have a single voice to the government when it involves Hindu matters. I am sure if this body takes the right path, than this can become a single representative for Hindus in Malaysia. Before it can claim as a sole representative, the Council must have a clear set of rules as to who should and can become a member of this Advisory council. I had an opportunity to talk to Swami Ramaji the adviser to the council, he is known to me for about 30 years and he told me there are about 15 swamijis/ acharyas and about 20 Hindu organizations under their umbrella. To me this reflects another duplication of the Malaysian Hindu Sangam, which has failed as a National Hindu representative with the Government.
My observation from the panel speakers and the way they responded to Q & A tells me that most of the Swamijis did not have the quality to make up as Swamijs. I am in doubt of their training in various aspects of Hinduism. Today anyone can become a swamiji, in Malaysia, but that does not means they all must be recognized as coming from the proper guru lineage as stipulated in our Hindu tradition. Firstly
one question arises is that, there were many so called swamijis who are married and still leading a family life and is it right to wear the yellow robes? It would be greatly a plus point for the Council, if each of the swamijis in the Council, should give their biodata as to their lineage, which sect of Hinduism they belong two, where they got their sannyasi dhiska? Secondly how many years they have undergone training before they become a Swamiji? One should not make a mistake between a Guruji and a Swamiji. There is a vast difference between these two orders. I am not sure how many can read and write Tamil and Sanskrit. I was told some of them are running individuals temples and ashrams and they have formed their own peedams in Malaysia. Another glaring defect, I noticed is that 80 % of Malaysian Hindus are Saivites, but sad to say there was not a single Saivite swamiji. This is very important because the philosophy of these 3 major Hindu sects cannot compromise in their fundamental principles upon which the religion is standing on its own. Hence it will not be proper for non Saivite swamis to represent issues related to Saivism.
It was a great effort taken by the organisers, but I hope they should form a clear platform to represent all sects within Hinduism. Otherwise the public can question their integrity as representatives of the Hindus for a single voice.
Since 21st
of September most Temple in Malaysia are filled with devotees, because of the most popular Hindu festival called Navaratheri, this festival brings together the kids, youths, and the adults together for a single gathering. This festival is filled with musical, cultural dances, religious talks and lengthy poojas, chariot procession etc. This festival is in conjuction with Goddess Navadurga. This
-

festival is celebrated for 10 days. The first three days is for Goddess Kali, the second three days Goddess Lakshmi, the third three days is for Goddess Saraswathi. The tenth day is very important for all kids who are going to start schooling and to all those who are involved in learning arts and culture under a proper teacher. It is on this day the teachers will invite all their past, present and new students to seek the blessings of Goddess Saraswathi. During these ten days one can have the opportunity to enjoy varieties of food served in the temples. Also, to witness the various arts and music of Indian culture in temples.
On October 18 Deepavali festival will be celebrated. It’s my humble advice to Hindus that we observe vegetarian food for the festival. It is because after the next day of Deepavali, usually Skanda Shasti festival begins for the next six days. It is good to keep our body, mind and soul purified from negative forces so that we will be able to absorb Lord Muruga‘s grace into our daily life.
With that wishing all SSMM members, their families and the Hindus a happy and successful Deepavali followed by Skanda Shasti.
It is considered divine to light a lamp of knowledge. Lighting a
lamp signifies acquiring divine knowledge. It lights up one's mind, and burns away ego, jealousy, anger, lust and greed which when extinguished in the flame of the light, gave rise to pure knowledge. Self-Radiance.

Significance of Skanda Sashti
Skanda Sashti is a major festival in among followers in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and other parts of South India, as well as countries like Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Singapore and South Africa. Skanda Sashti also known as Kanda Shashti, celebrated in honour of Lord Skanda or Murugan as it is believed that on this he appeared on earth to defeat Adharma and restore Dharma. The divine incarnation of Karthikeya is called the Commander-in-Chief of the army of devas. According to Skanda Puranam, the demons under the leadership of Surapadma, Simhamukha and Tarakasura defeated the Devas and took control over the earth. Skanda Puranam, the longest of the 18 Mahapuranas, gives narration of how son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati took birth as Skanda and wiped off the devils causing anarchy on the planet.
How to observe Skanda Shasti Vratam or Fasting?
While there is no particular way to observe Skanda Shasti Vratam but there are basic guidelines of fasting for Lord Murugan. Many devotees abstain from all foods, while some keep fast by just consuming fruits and pure, unsalted foods. They chant Skanda Sashti Kavacham, a six-part prayer for

protection and blessings from Lord Murugan. One can also chant ‘Om Sharavana Bhava’ mantra 108 times to please the Almighty. It is believed that a person with pure heart offers prayers and observes Lord Karthikeya generously blesses fasting on Shasti.
Kanda Shasti Kavasam Mantra
Kanda Shasti Kavasam Mantra, composed in the 16th century in praise of the Lord, seeking to shower His grace. The devotional song is chanted by Tamil Hindus observing the Skanda Shasti Vratam. It is composed by Bala Devaraya Swamigal consisting a total of 244 lines, which includes four first lines known as “Kaappu”. It is followed by a couple of meditational lines with the main song consisting of 238 lines referred to as the “Kavacham.” According to the Hindu mythology, devotees who regularly chant this song have all problems resolved, and if the full song is sung 36 times a day, it brings wealth and prosperity to the person. Skanda Sashti Viratham Benefits
The Power of Six –
The number six is the symbolic representation of Muruga. Skanda Sashti spans six days, Muruga’s anthropomorphic form has 6 heads, he has 6 power houses (energy vortices), his powerful mantra has 6 syllables ‘Sa Ra Va Na Ba Va’ and Muruga represents our 6th sense.
According to the scriptures:
● Propitiating Muruga during the 1st day can improve business and relationships. Businessmen, married couples and unmarried youth can be particularly benefited during this day.
● Propitiating Muruga during the 2nd, 3rd and 4th days of Skanda Sashti can bring relief from health problems, as well as bringing a sudden turn of events leading to positive results.
● Propitiating Muruga on the 5th and 6th days of Skanda Sashti will bring spiritual bliss, financial favors and also growth in career/profession.

Life is a Gift.
Today before you say any unkind word,
think of someone who can’t speak.
Before you complain about the taste of
your food, think of someone who has
nothing to eat.
Before you complain about your husband
or wife- think of someone who is crying
out to almighty god for a companion.
Today before you complain about life,
think of someone who died too young.
Before you complain about your children,
think of someone who desires children
but they are barren.
Before you argue about your dirty house
someone did not clean or sweep, think of
the people who are living in the streets.
Before complaining about the distance
you drive, think of someone who walks
the same distance with their feet.
And when you are tired and complain
about your job. Think of the unemployed,
the disabled and those who wish they had
your job.
But before you think of pointing the finger
or condemning another, remember that
not one of us is without sin and we all
answer to one maker.
And when depressing thought seem to get
you down, put a smile on your face and
thank God you are alive and still around.
And before you think of closing your
whatsapp messenger, please think of
sending this to as many people as you
like. It might change someone’s thinking
towards Life. God bless you.
Through the purifying burning fire of tapas
[exercises of discipline] all the
sense organs of the body are perfected
(kayendriya-siddhir) by the destruction
(ksayat) of all impurities (asuddhi).

When the sugar is fully dissolved, add the remaining ghee. Keep stirring until the rava starts leaving the sides of the pan. Garnish with the fried cashews and raisins and cardamom powder.

SAIVITE CREEDS
Lord Siva is God, whose Absolute Being, Parasiva, transcends time, form
and space.
God, whose immanent nature of love, Parashakti, is the substratum,
primal substance or pure consciousness flowing through all form as
energy, existence, knowledge and bliss.
Lord Siva is God, whose immanent nature is the Primal Soul, Supreme
Mahadeva, Paramesvara, author of Vedas and Agamas, the creator,
preserver and destroyer of all that exists.
Three worlds: the gross plane, where souls take on physical bodies; the
subtle plane, where souls take on astral bodies; and the causal plane,
where souls exist in their self-effulgent form.
The law of karma that one must reap the effects of all actions he has
caused and that each soul continues to reincarnate until all karmas are
resolved and moksha, liberation, is attained.
Religion is the harmonious working together of the three worlds and
that this harmony can be created through temple worship, wherein the
beings of all three worlds can communicate.
The Panchakshara mantra, the five sacred syllables “Namasivaya,” as
Saivism’s foremost and essential mantra. The secret of Namasivaya is to
hear it from the right lips at the right time.
