2000 年に開学した立命館アジア太平洋大学（APU）は、これまで16,000 名を超える卒業生を世界中に輩出しています。海外の同窓会組織も24まで増えました。APUは開学以来147の国・地域から学生を受け入れており、現在は全学生の半数の約 3,000 名が 88の国・地域から集う、まさに「小さな地球」であり「若者の国連」といえます。APUの魅力は「APU2030ビジョン」を掲げ、世界中で活躍できる人材育成に取り組んでいることです。APUで学んだ人が世界中に散らばって、それぞれの持ち場を見つけて、そこでAPUで学んだ経験に基づき、実際に行動を起こして世界を変えていくという壮大なプランです。僕は2018 年１月に学長に就任しましたが、今の日本ではまだ珍しい中長期ビジョンを、在学生や卒業生、教職員、そしてステークホルダーの皆さまと一緒に作ったと聞いて、深い感銘を受けました。大学の価値は、質の高い教育、研究を行うことに尽ききます。そのために、マネジメントは強固な財務基盤を整え、より優れた教育・研究ができる環境を整えなければなりません。何よりも大切なことは、一人でも多くの皆さまにAPUを知って頂き、APUのファンを広げていくことです。そのためのプラットフォームを準備しており、世界中で活躍する卒業生そして、

別府湾を見下ろす豊かなキャンパスで生き生きと学ぶ学生を知っていただけるよう、APUファンの皆様に様々な情報をお届けしようと考えています。また APUファンになってくださった方が、WEBサイトなどで簡単に寄付できるシステムも重要であり、その仕組みを作りをも進めています。APUの国内外における社会的評価を高めることも学長の重要な責 務です。2018 年３月に、THE(Times Higher Education) の日本版大学ランキングで、APUは全国私大の中でトップ５に入り、西日本の私学１位となりました。国際基準で評価される大学ランキングや、学問分野別の国際認証にも、引き続き挑戦してく所存です。まもなくAPUは開学 20周年を迎えます。「APU2030ビジョン」を確実に達成すべく１つずつマイルストーンを置いていかなければなりません。2020 年の節目の年には「第２の開学」といえるような思い切った改革を行おうと考えています。そのためには学生・卒業生、保護者や地域の方々、そしてご寄付を頂戴している皆さまと、我々教職員が一緒になった「ONE APU」の視点が重要です。今後も「小さな地球」であり「若者の国連」であるAPUに温かいご支援を賜りますよう、心からお願い申し上げます。

Since it was opened in the year 2000, Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University (APU) has produced over 16,000 graduates throughout the world. The number of overseas alumni chapters has increased to 24. APU has received students from 147 countries and regions since its opening and with half of the current student body, comprised of about 3000 students, assembled from 88 countries and regions, it truly can be described as a "miniature version of the earth" and a "United Nations of young people.”APU’s appeal lies in the advancement of the “APU2030 Vision” and its efforts to train people who can succeed around the world. It is a bold plan to have the people who studied at APU spread out around the world to find their own place and actually take action to change the world based on their experiences studying at APU. I myself was appointed President in January 2018, but I was deeply impressed to hear that the current students and graduates, faculty and staff, and stakeholders all worked together to create a medium to long-term vision that is still quite unusual in today’s Japan.The value of a university is in conducting high quality education and research. Therefore, the management must establish a solid financial foundation to provide an environment where superior education and research can be achieved.The most important thing is to have APU become known to as many people as possible to increase the number of APU supporters. For that reason, we are preparing a platform with the notion to deliver various

kinds of information to all APU supporters so that they may know our graduates who are active around the world and the students who are energetically studying on this abundant campus overlooking Beppu Bay. It is also important to have a web site or other system where people who have become APU supporters can easily donate, and we are creating a mechanism to enable that.Enhancing APU’s social evaluation inside and outside Japan is also an important Presidential duty. In the March 2018 ranking of Japanese universities by THE (Times Higher Education), APU placed in the top five private Japanese universities overall and was number one in Western Japan. I intend to continue to improve APU’s university ranking as evaluated according to international standards and pursue international accreditation in each academic discipline.APU will soon celebrate the 20th anniversary of its opening. We must place each individual milestone in order to unfailingly achieve the “APU2030 Vision.” During the turning point of 2020, we are planning to undertake a substantial reform which could be described as a “second opening.” For that reason, it is important that the students and graduates, parental guardians and local residents, as well as all those who have donated all come together with the faculty and staff under the vision of “ONE APU.” I sincerely ask for your continued gracious support of the "miniature version of the earth" and "United Nations of young people” that is APU.

奨学生からの感謝の手紙Letter from a Scholarship Recipient

私はTSVETKOV Radoslav Tsvetanovと申します。ブルガリアから参りました。APUで学び始めてからずっと、会計・ファイナンスの分野での自分の能力を高めるために全力を尽くしてきました。しかし、学部生として最初の一歩を踏み出し基礎的な勉強をしながら、語学やネットワーキング、関係構築の大切さを痛感しました。APUの多文化環境にいて、それに気づきました。それで、私は専門である会計・ファイナンスの勉強だけでなく、二つの言語―日本語とスペイン語に力を入れて勉強し始めました。APUの英語基準の学生は授業に出ることで英語力を伸ばし続けることができますし、日本語とスペイン語も同時に学ぶことで、より高度な効果的なコミュニケーションを可能にする言語をさらに２つマスターすることができます。そのおかげで、私は新しいコミュニケーションスキルを身に付け、長く続くネットワークを構築し広げることができたのです。また、オナーズプログラム（HPGC）、新入生オリエンテーション学生スタッフ（FLAG）、APUスチューデント・アンバサダー（ASA）等の学生組織に参加したことで自分の視野がさらに広がりました。オナーズプログラム（HPGC）のメンバーになって、自分が属するコミュニティに奉仕する大切さを学びました。他のオナーズの学生と共にAPUの環境を改善したり、別府の地域コミュニティをサポートしたりする様々なプロジェクトで働きました。オナーズプログラムで身に付けたスキルは、大学生活を始めたばかりの新入生が大学生活に慣れるよう支援することを主な活動とするFLAGに参加して、再び活かされ、ますます磨きがかかりました。これらの二つの組織に参加して、コミュニティへの貢献に対して強く関心を抱くようになり、それは私の最も大切な

理念となりました。HPGCとFLAGのほかに、APUスチューデント・アンバサダー（ASA）という組織にも参加しました。APUスチューデント・アンバサダーはいろいろな企業や機関からの来賓の方々にキャンパスを案内し、大学を紹介するという責任ある仕事をします。ASAの活動を通じて、私はさらに、言語とネットワーキングによって成り立つコミュニケーションは、将来に向かって自分自身を成長させようという者にとって最も重要な資質の一つであると確信しました。大学の奨学金による寛大なサポートなしでは、これらの活動のすべ

てと学業と課外活動の両面での個人的な成長はなかったでしょう。奨学金のおかげで、私の財政負担は大幅に減り、学業とコミュニティに奉仕する課外活動に集中することができました。継続して私を援助してくださる機関に深く感謝し、将来に向かってより高い目標を目指し続けようと意欲が沸きました。おかげさまで、アジア太平洋地域で将来リーダーとなるのに欠かせない強い決意を持つに至りました。今から、私はこの奨学金を、卒業後、日本にある国際企業で資産運用管理と投資分析の分野でキャリアを積むための準備に使おうと計画しています。このように、価値ある人材としてアジア太平洋の発展に貢献するため努力を続けたいと考えています。

TSVETKOV Radoslav Tsvetanov（ブルガリア / 国際経営学部 (APM), 2 回生）（from Bulgaria / College of International Management (APM), 2nd-year student）

My name is TSVETKOV Radoslav Tsvetanov and I am from Bulgaria. Ever since commencing my studies at APU, I have been committed to developing my full capabilities and potential in the area of Accounting and Finance. However, while making my first steps as an undergraduate student, I realized the vital importance of language, networking, and creating relationships. It was the experience of being immersed in APU’s multicultural environment that taught me this valuable lesson. This is why I started to focus not only on my major studies in Accounting and Finance but also on diligently studying two languages – Japanese and Spanish. By being an English-basis student in APU, I can continue improving my English as part of the lecture classes I attend and at the same time by simultaneously studying Japanese and Spanish, I can master two more languages which will help me achieve a higher level of effective communication. Thanks to these academic endeavors, I managed to develop new communication skills and create, as well as expand, long-lasting networks. My mindset was further widened through my work in different student organizations such as the Honors Program for Global Citizenship (HPGC), FeLlow Advisory Group (FLAG) and APU Student Ambassador (ASA). By being part of the Honors Program for Global Citizenship (HPGC), I discovered

the importance of contributing to the community around me. With my fellow honors students we have worked together on various projects which can improve APU’s environment and support the local community of Beppu as well. The skills

I have gained through the Honors Program were once again applied and honed when I joined the FLAG which has the main task of supporting newly-enrolled APU students in their first steps of getting used to university life. Thanks to these two organizations I found out my strong passion for contributing to my surroundings which became one of my most important principles. Apart from HPGC and FLAG, I also joined ASA. As an APU Student Ambassador you have the task of introducing our University and our campus to many visitors, coming from a variety of companies, enterprises and institutions. The activities of ASA further convinced me that communication, formed by language and networking, is one of the most crucial assets for anyone who aims for continuous future development.All of these activities and the personal growth I was able to achieve in both academic and extracurricular aspects could not be possible without the generous support provided to me by a university scholarship. The financial funds I have received have helped me enormously by decreasing my fi nancial burden, allowing me to focus more on my studies and extracurricular projects that contribute to the surrounding community. I am deeply obliged to the institutions that continue to support me which is why I am continuously aiming for higher and higher goals in the future. This developed in me a strong sense of determination that I believe is crucial for becoming a future leader of the Asia-Pacifi c. From now on, I am planning to use the fi nancial support I am receiving for setting goals for my professional career after graduation in an international company in Japan in the area of portfolio management and investment analysis. This is how I am willing to continue my endeavors in contributing to the Asia-Pacifi c.
