Welcome To Annunciation Parish!
Uniting The Catholic Community of Newington
Established June 29, 2017
If you are new to our parish or if you have been away from the practice of the faith, we extend a warm
welcome and hope you feel at home here. Our parish is nourished by your presence today. We invite you to
introduce yourself to the priest or deacon after Mass so that we can greet you. We hope you will make Annunciation
Parish YOUR parish.
All children are welcome to be baptized in the Catholic Church. It does not matter if the parents are single or
married outside the Catholic Church. ALL CHILDREN no matter what, are welcome to the baptism of the Lord, as
long as they will be raised Catholic. Annunciation Parish usually offers baptisms on the first and third Sundays. To
get started, please call the parish office - Saint Mary (860-666-1591) or Holy Spirit (860-666-5671). We can’t wait
to welcome your child into the life of Christ and our Church through Baptism.

Readings and Reflections for April 22nd, 2018
First Reading: Acts 4:8-12 This is Peter’s first discourse before the
Sanhedrin, in which he precisely answers the question put to him. Note that
Peter is described as “filled with the Holy Spirit.”
Second Reading: I John 3:1-2 This “letter” is really an exhortation to the
Johannine community. Being “children of God” includes not belonging to the
world; leading lives of holiness; and having confidence in a great future life.
Gospel: John 10:11-18 Jesus describes Himself as the “good shepherd” who
is willing to die for the sake of his sheep. The “other sheep” mentioned here
could refer to future believers, or to the coming of the Gentiles into the
community; or other Christian communities than John’s.
Daly Notes…
Over the last few weeks, 83 young people
from our parish received the Eucharist for the
first time. First Communion was a wonderful
experience. Thanks to all who worked so closely
with the children and their families, as they
prepared for their special day. A big thank you
to Sue Skipp and Terri Hermann, who go above
and beyond for our religious education
program.
A very special thank you to our
catechists who prepared the children: Diane
Teevan, Melissa Statchen, Joann Masi, Tim
Walsh, Jeanna Walsh, Susan Haynes and
Elsa Batista-Yzaguirre. Thank you also to David
Dyson, Libby Famularo and all our
musicians for enhancing our celebrations with
their gift of music.
I am also grateful to all of the parents who
brought their children to receive our Lord. As I
said at the end of Mass, that is a sign to me,
that you are doing a great job of raising your
children. Thanks to the children as well. They
were terrific!

World Day of Prayer for Vocations
On this Good Shepherd Sunday
we celebrate World Day of Prayer for
Vocations. Pray for an increase in
vocations to priesthood, diaconate and
religious life. May God raise up good
shepherds in our midst.
To serve as a shepherd of the
Lord’s flock as a priest or religious, call
Fr. Michael Casey, Director of
Vocations, Archdiocesan Pastoral
Center, Tel. 860-761-7457, e-mail
[email protected] or visit the web at
www.hartfordpriest.com.
2018 World Day of Prayer for Vocations
Today the Church throughout the world prays
for vocations. Will you make a special effort to
ask the Lord for more vocations to the
priesthood and religious life?
Pray for the priests who have ministered to
you throughout your life, both living and dead.
Keep our parish priests in your prayers
throughout the week.
Encourage your children, grandchildren, or
other young people to consider a vocation as a
priest or religious brother or sister.
Pray a rosary for more young men and
women in our diocese to respond to God’s call.
A Prayer for Vocations
God our Father,
You made each of us to use our gifts
in the Body of Christ.
We ask that You inspire
young people whom You call to
the priesthood and consecrated life
to courageously follow Your will.
Send workers into Your great harvest
so that the Gospel is preached,
the poor are served with love,
the suffering are comforted,
and Your people are strengthened
by the sacraments
We ask this through
Christ our Lord,
Amen
