Fifth Sunday of Lent / March 18, 2018
Welcome To The New Annunciation Parish!
Uniting The Catholic Community of Newington * Established June 29, 2017
We extend a warm welcome to all new families/individuals. Our parish is nourished
by your presence. We hope you feel at home here, and want to make
Annunciation Parish YOUR parish.
Every family in the parish should be properly registered. New parishioners should register
at the Parish Office. Single adults over 21 years of age should register separately from parents.
It is necessary to be registered to arrange baptisms, marriages, enroll in Religious
Education classes, and to obtain sponsor certificates for baptism and confirmation.
All the FRIDAYS of Lent are days of ABSTINENCE.
What does that mean?
Catholics over 14 years of age are expected
to abstain from eating meat on the Fridays of Lent.

4th Sunday of Lent - Readings & Reflections
First Reading: Jeremiah 31:31-34
This passage has been called by
scholars “one of the most moving
passages in the entire bible.” The new
covenant will not be written on stone
but “upon hearts.” Yahweh speaks of
universal love and forgiveness.
Second Reading: Hebrews 5:7-9
Jesus our High Priest was able to
sympathize with us sinners because He
experienced temptation and trials like
we do. His obedience to the Father
enabled Him to be our Savior.
Gospel: John 12:20-33
The “grain of wheat” proverb refers to
the fact that Jesus’ death makes our
salvation possible. His “lifting up” on the
cross will therefore be His moment of
glorification.
What Is BEST LENT EVER?
It’s a free email program that will
guide you on an incredible 40-day
journey to become the-best-version-
of-yourself, making this a truly
life-changing Lent.

Daly Notes…
Just a few things that I wanted to bring to your attention. Next Saturday, March 24th,
Archbishop Mansell will celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation at the Church of the Holy
Spirit. Please keep the young people of Annunciation Parish in your prayers as they prepare to
be sealed with the gifts of the Holy Spirit.
Next Sunday we will celebrate Palm Sunday at both churches. Palms will be blessed at all
Masses.
Monday Confessions continue this Monday 6-7 PM at Church of the Holy Spirit. Lent is an
excellent time to experience God’s love and mercy in the sacrament of reconciliation.
I know that some people are concerned about the schedule for Holy Week. Sometimes change is
difficult but we are one parish, one community. It will take time for us to fully appreciate, but I
am sure in time, we will all embrace the new reality. We welcome and encourage everyone to
join us for the beautiful celebrations of Holy Week, especially the Easter vigil.
As we approach Holy Week, let us ask God to bless and renew Annunciation Parish.
Thank you for all that you do for our parish.
God Bless, Father Shawn

PRAYER
Father God, I come into Your presence so aware of my human frailty and yet overwhelmed by Your love for me. I thank You that there is no human experience that I might walk through where Your love cannot reach me. If I climb the highest mountain You are there and yet if I find myself in the darkest valley of my life, You are there.
Teach me today to love you more. Help me to rest in that love that asks nothing more than the simple trusting heart of a child.
Amen.

2018 Archbishop’s Annual Appeal
In just a few short weeks, our parish has
raised $ 35,370 for the 2018 Archbishop’s
Annual Appeal. The Archbishop’s Annual
Appeal supports many important ministries
and programs. Gifts are allocated towards
religious education programs, youth
ministries, local charities, the education of
our seminarians, our retired clergy, our
Catholic schools, and the many ministries
provided by the Archdiocese. If you have not
made a gift, please prayerfully consider
making a pledge or one-time gift. Join us,
your parish community, and Our Faith, Our
Future, by sharing your blessings.
Holy Thursday
Within the Mass of the Lord’s Supper on
Holy Thursday, there is the “Washing of
Feet” ceremony. The rite comprises of
twelve people having a foot ceremonially
washed. We are in need of twelve
volunteers to have a foot ceremonially
washed during the Mass. We are looking to
have representat ives from both
churches. Every year it seems to get more
and more difficult to find 12 individuals for
this ceremony. If interested and willing
please contact Kim at 860-666-5671.
Please make your
checks payable to:
Annunciation Parish. Thank you!

our parish and our faith.
I know I speak for all of us when I
congratulate Marie on this well-deserved

Annual Archdiocesan Mass of
Remembrance
Join Us April 24, 2018
The Mass of Remembrance is a time for
reflection on the lives of our children who
have died from any cause. The causes are
numerous but the resulting emotions of
pain, longing, and sorrow are the same.
Perhaps one of the most misunderstood
and often overlooked losses is of
miscarriage. Too frequently it is seen as
less than other deaths of children, but for
those who have experienced miscarriage, it
is no less painful.
Parents wish these children to be
remembered and the Mass of Remembrance
provides this opportunity. Please join us in
praying for children who have died by
miscarriage, illness, or any cause, and for
their families.
