L as escuelas viven, crecen, se desarro-llan, se transforman y al igual que los seres humanos se adaptan a lo que

en su entorno y en su sociedad está suce-diendo. La actualidad de nuestro mundo y muy particularmente de nuestro país nos obliga a enfrentarnos y manejar temas difíciles tales como la violencia, las drogas y la falta de valores entre otros.

Ante estos temas surgen algunas pregun-tas obligadas: ¿Como escuela y sobre todo como comunidad educativa cómo debemos enfrentarnos a esta difícil realidad? ¿Qué debemos decir y hacer con nuestros hijos? En lo personal, considero que la solución a la mayor parte de los problemas de nuestro país es la educación, por lo que es a través de ésta que podremos dar a nuestros hijos las herramientas necesarias para enfrentarse con éxito a los retos de la vida.

Con lo anterior en mente es que a lo largo de los últimos años hemos venido

impulsando con gran fuerza una serie de programas destinados a fortalecer a nues-tros alumnos en su desarrollo integral, pero sobre todo en los aspectos emocio-nal y social. Es así como nacieron en la escuela los Súper Sierra, Ojos Bien Abier-tos, Aprender y más recientemente Cons-truyendo Juntos.

La promoción de valores universales ha sido un tema del cual siempre nos hemos ocupado, buscando permanentemente las mejores alternativas para inculcarlos entre todos los miembros de nuestra comuni-dad. Los Súper Sierra surgen con la idea de continuar promoviendo estos valores de una manera diferente y más divertida pero sobre todo como un concepto con el cual los alumnos se pueden identificar. Los va-lores tienen ahora sus representantes, súper héroes con nombres, caras y personalidades que nos ayudarán a transmitir la importan-cia de hacer propios los valores de la hones-

tidad, humildad, autoestima, amor, respeto, justicia, excelencia y perdón.

Nuestra campaña de “Ojos Bien Abier-tos” ha dado grandes resultados, ya que ha promovido ante todo, que nuestra co-munidad educativa se una en torno a un mismo objetivo: el bienestar físico, social y emocional de todos sus integrantes.

“Aprender….Por una Paternidad Com-partida” es un programa destinado a apo-yar a los padres de familia en su difícil tarea de ser padres. El objetivo es claro: brindar información que ayude a los pa-dres a guiar y motivar a sus hijos a que se desarrollen siendo personas de bien.

A partir de este año estamos manejando el programa “Construyendo Juntos” con el objetivo de desarrollar en los alumnos habili-dades emocionales, cognitivas y sociales que fortalezcan su personalidad ayudándolos a tomar decisiones asertivas y que fomenten una cultura para la paz. “Construyendo Jun-tos” es un programa diseñado por un equipo de psicólogos y pedagogos de nuestra insti-tución dirigido a todos los miembros de la comunidad educativa: alumnos, maestros, personal manual y administrativo, directi-vos y padres de familia. Los alumnos partici-pan a lo largo del año en talleres destinados a promover el desarrollo de la personalidad, el desarrollo social, la transmisión de valo-res, la promoción de la salud, el desarrollo integral de la sexualidad, la prevención de adicciones y el manejo responsable y posi-tivo de las tecnologías de la información y comunicación. Todo esto se vincula con los programas de Aprender, Ojos Bien Abier-tos, los Súper Sierra y el Programa de Me-joramiento Profesional precisamente con la intención de abarcar a nuestra comunidad educativa en su totalidad.

De esta manera es que en la escuela esta-mos respondiendo a los retos a los cuales la vida nos va enfrentando. Los resultados hasta ahora son excelentes, y continuare-mos trabajando para lograr más y mejores resultados.

Como siempre les deseo unas muy fe-lices fiestas y que el nuevo año traiga paz, amor y salud a todos sus hogares.


Cuántas veces hemos oído la expre-sión “es un niño con un carácter sumamente difícil”, o bien “tiene

un temperamento espantoso”. Pero, real-mente sabemos ¿cómo es un niño difícil? y lo más importante, sabemos ¿cómo reac-cionar y qué hacer para ayudarlo y lograr juntos la armonía?

Hace algún tiempo tuve la oportuni-dad de asistir a un taller impartido por el Lic. Vidal Schmill Herrera, Pedagogo, especialista en Desarrollo Humano, De-sarrollo de Habilidades del Pensamiento, Educación en Valores y presidente de Es-cuela para Padres. Basado en los estudios del Dr. Stanley Turecki, el Lic. Schmill explicó que el temperamento es la forma de actuar de una persona y es observable a través de ocho rasgos principales del comportamiento. Es decir, todos na-cemos y vivimos con estos ocho rasgos,

mismos que, según se acentúan o con-trolan, determinan el temperamento de cada individuo.

Dichos ocho rasgos son:

1.- Actividad2.- concentración3.- Adaptabilidad4.- Acercamiento/Retraimiento5.- Intensidad6.- Regularidad7.- Sensibilidad8.- Estado de Ánimo

Un niño difícil es aquel que presenta un descontrol en la mayoría de estos rasgos y a pesar de recibir un trato equilibrado por parte de sus padres y/o maestros, manifiesta un temperamento tal que la convivencia ar-mónica con él es prácticamente imposible.

Es entonces cuando cometemos el error de tratar de disciplinar al niño con castigos. Cuando una mala conducta proviene de un rasgo temperamental difícil no debe casti-garse, sino manejarse con técnica y contro-larse poco a poco. Algunas sugerencias son:

Establecer rutinas diarias y mante- nerlas lo más posible.Establecer reglas claras y cumplirlas.Mantener la calma ante los berrinches

e ignorar los malos modos.Ayudarlos a comprender cómo su

temperamento afecta a los demás.Ser firmes y no negociar con los niños

Es para nosotros un motivo de ale-gría poder manifestarles con orgu-llo los logros de nuestros primeros egresados. Tres de ellos se encuen-tran estudiando la secundaria en la Escuela Justo Sierra, esto gracias a la generosidad de los dueños, el Dr. José Reyes y la Dra. Myriam carrillo, quienes por su liderazgo y verdadero compromiso con la educación han otorgado estas becas. Así mismo, la secundaria Christel House ha abier-to sus puertas para 10 de nuestros egresados y nuestro Plantel de San Mateo ha recibido a 3 niños.

Nos sentimos halagados por el apoyo de estas instituciones y es-peramos seguir trabajando juntos en beneficio de nuestros niños.

believe in yourself. Trust who you are. Only then will you be capable of doing what you want. I´m not

saying it won´t be hard, because it will be. However, it is worth it. To do so, most of us have to prove ourselves. Take a chance. Try things. You have to take yourself to the limit and when you reach it, still go on. That is what life does: it tries us, to make us prove we are more than we think. Whatever it is, keep on going. Learn from your hardships and move on, even when you think you can´t. Pay no attention to what others may think. What matters is what you think. You are as strong as you think you are. Love yourself. In the end, that’s all you have.

Life is full of surprises. Some we like; some we don´t, but we have no other choice. We either keep on going or we die in the emptiness of sorrow. Remem-ber, even if you fall you can always get up

again. Conflict is just an opportunity to prove ourselves. Everything happens for a reason. That´s the way life goes.

Don´t be too hard on yourself. We all make mistakes and many times act against ourselves. I don´t really know why, but sadness always brings me down. Some-times we develop self-destructive respons-es, which we have to fight.

If you do something wrong, fix it; learn from it. Forgive yourself and keep on go-ing. Don´t think about the past, if it does nothing to help you on, but don´t be the one to hold you back. Don´t sabotage yourself ! Prove those who want to bring you down, wrong. Shift your thoughts and change the way you see yourself. Believe and know yourself to be special, important, valuable, because you are. It´s only you, who doubts it.

When you are able to ignore your own recriminating thoughts and others’ de-

structive criticism, you are ready to bet on yourself. Do it. Give yourself a chance to love. Give your heart to someone who can rip it out if they so choose, because in doing so, they will free your potential. It is only in failure that we learn to fly; only through pain that we grow. Whatever happens you still have yourself, and that is what matters.

Never feel unworthy. Never feel less and yet, never make others feel less. You will al-ways have conflicting good and bad feelings. You will be hurt, but how it affects your life, depends on you. You have the control be-cause we are the ones who choose how we react. Don´t give up your power by giving that control to others. Don´t live respond-ing only to what others expect from you. If you set your expectations on their approval, you will be disappointed.

Be different. Be who you are. Everyone is different for a reason. Know it.

p refirst Sierra Nevada Interlomas, presented “Christopher Columbus the Musical”. A play that was very

exciting from the process to the final result. Every step of the way there was something to learn as individuals and as team players.

Children were divided in three groups, and each group had to rehearse its song with a different teacher. This way they got to work with the other teachers and differ-ent classmates.

We had a great time rehearsing and get-ting ready for the show. Children made their

own costumes even the ones that were going to be used by someone else! Parents helped out with accessories and props. Our nannies Karina and Norma also sewed costumes and Prof. Libert, our music teacher, helped out playing the guitar.

The beats of every song were different which allowed us to have a colorful and fun presentation. Boys and girls of our school learned many facts about Colum-bus and his historical journey. We are sure that it was a memorable event for them and all of the ones involved.

Horacio Franco came to our school. At first he did not play his re-

corder. He told us all about himself. He talked to us about when he was a teenager when he was very successful in his music class with the recorders or flutes. He told us how he became a fa-mous person because of his talent and good work. Horacio wasn’t like all of us. His parents lost their parents when they were young and they had to work alone. Horacio Franco wanted to be re-corder player but his parents said that that was not a career. Horacio didn’t care, he decided that he wanted to be a flutist. He said that when you have a dream you should follow it because if you have to be something you don’t want to be, you won’t be happy. It was a privilege that he came to play for us. He gave 3 cD’s free to kids who an-swered three questions. He is a great person I would like it if he returns.

R eading is one of the most enriching activities we can offer children. Having a reading week that includes

a reading fair and the opportunity to have parents, fam-ily members, teachers and directors take part in different classrooms makes children enjoy all sort of stories by shar-ing, predicting, laughing and even changing the ending to some of them.

W e celebrated United Nations Day with songs, cos-tumes, and much learning about other countries and

their customs. We had parents coming to speak to our stu-dents about India, china, Korea, Venezuela, columbia, Scot-land and many others. Mr. Gongora, Nicolas’ dad, came to school dressed in Scotland’s traditional kilt and even showed the children his bag pipes. He explained that every family has their own design and that each tartan is different. The chil-dren had the chance to see traditional clothing worn in other countries, taste their food and we even danced and sang songs from all over the world. They learned that even though we are different and have different traditions, we are all part of a world community. We want to thank all the parents who participated and made this such an enjoyable experience.

opportunity to stress the importance of certain principles they´ll hopefully consider essential throughout their lives.

Learning to live together in peace and har-mony is a dynamic and lifelong process through which mutual respect, compassion, acceptance and tolerance of diversity among people are internalized and practiced together to solve problems and to work towards a just, free, peaceful and democratic society.

This process begins with the development of inner peace in the minds and hearts of individu-als engaged in the search for truth, knowledge and understanding of each other’s cultures and the appreciation of shared common values to achieve a better future.

O n Monday, october 24, Sierra Nevada Lomas celebrat-ed the 66th anniversary of the United Nations. As part

of the program the 6th graders presented an international fair. Fifteen countries, all members of the mentioned orga-nization, were represented in the event. Visitors were able to appreciate the students’ explanations, accompanied by displays, artifacts, and regional costumes. They were also able to taste the varied gastronomy of those countries.

El acelerado ritmo de vida que llevamos, aunado a la influencia directa que recibimos del extranjero, poco a poco ha ido provocando que una de las tradiciones pre-

hispánicas que distinguen culturalmente a México vaya desa-pareciendo poco a poco. Se trata de la elaboración del altar de muertos u ofrenda, como se le quiera llamar.

En esta ocasión los alumnos de tercero de secundaria se or-ganizaron para montar una pequeña ofrenda y con ello com-prender un poco más sobre esta tradición popular que mezcla creencias pagano religiosas y que sigue viva entre práctica-mente todas las etnias indígenas de nuestro país. Los alum-nos echaron mano de su creatividad y con mucho entusiasmo lograron un altar que de alguna manera los acercó a otro de los rasgos distintivos de su país: el culto a la muerte. En este sen-tido es innegable que la muerte juega un papel muy importante en la forma de pensar del mexicano, pues a diferencia de otras culturas, hasta se hacen chistes o bromas al respecto y muchas veces se le trata con una solemnidad indiscutible. La muerte catrina pone esto de manifiesto y en estos días los vivos con-viven con los muertos en peculiares rituales como en Janitzio,

On october 7th, 2011, the Third Graders created an “Endan-gered Animal Museum” in the classroom. Each Third Grader

chose an endangered animal. They had to find out information on their animal, such as: its type, its habitat, reasons for endan-germent and ways in which we could help. Finally they had to present their information in the form of a diorama. The special aspect about this diorama is that the students had to create it from reusable material. The main part of their diorama was a cereal box. In this cereal box, the students had to show the animal, its habitat and why it was endangered. Finally on the big day of our museum we invited the entire school to come and visit. We invited the parents to come too! It was a great activity! Not only did the students learn about 49 endangered animals, they also helped the environment by using recycled and reusable material.

The final phase of this project is to choose one animal per class and think of something concrete to do in order to help this animal. We would love to help all 49 animals but we know that if we put all our effort together we can really help one animal.

Michoacán o el momento de compartir los alimentos a la me-dia noche en el panteón municipal de Mixquic. Diferentes entre sí, las ofrendas que se ponen en algunas regiones de México, comparten ciertos elementos que no pueden faltar pues más que objetos son símbolos de la vida ante la muerte: la sal, el vaso con agua, el papel picado, las flores de cempasúchil y las veladoras entre otros que nos recuerdan que en México el día 1º de noviembre se recuerda a los muertos pequeños (niños) y el día dos a los muertos adultos.

ingful and challenging experiences, children do not only learn im-portant concepts and content from the curricula, they organize their thoughts, manage the time given, solve problems and com-municate the ideas they have come up with in an effective way. Learning through projects also gives students the opportunity to work together and put into practice important social and charac-ter building skills. cooperative group work helps them practice leadership skills, reflect awareness of others’ views and opinions, share responsibility and perform roles effectively. The third graders in Miss Daniela's English classes creat-ed an Honesty Quilt. our quilt is made up of images and

words that represent all the different things HoNESTY means and how it looks in real life. Similar to how a quilt isn't complete if it's missing a piece, we discussed the importance of every-one in a community being honest and trustworthy, and why honesty matters. If one person is dishonest or lies, it breaks up the group trust and unity. We want to emulate a quilt by all being a part of an honest and caring community.

Teaching through projects is not new in our school. It has been a means to enhance motivation through active participa-tion. It is a pedagogical method that has been used by teachers across the globe for decades, but which has had a recent surge of interest due to the technological capabilities now available in our schools. Teachers have engaged children in activities of this nature without the use of high technology in the past. Today, with the new resources, they are making sure students meet the needs of the 21st century. The following two articles are ex-amples of these projects:

HONESTy quILT 3RD GRADE A t Sierra Nevada San Mateo, 5B & 5c learned how to

classify animals in Mr. Lester’s class. They classified them by Kingdom, Phylum, class, order, Family, Genus, and Species. Students investigated about an animal of their choice and learned as well the classification: 10 interesting facts, habitat, food, scientific name. They put the project together as a powerpoint presentation or a movie and pre-sented in class. The images and information were cutting edge and, as well as being more attractive than a simple poster, we helped out the planet by not using paper. The students learned a lot and are looking forward to our visit to the chapultepec Zoo.

SACRAMENTO NuRSE GIVES CARDIO COuRSE

T he 5th Graders in Interlomas received a very interesting visitor, Rosalind Vázquez from Sacramento. Rose is the

relative of one of the bus drivers in school. She works as a nurse and teaches other nurses as well. She spoke to the chil-dren about the circulatory System and how the heart works. She brought 26 stethoscopes so that they could listen to each others’ hearts and she also showed them how to take their pulse. She truly enjoyed doing this activity with them and answering the kids’ questions. All of the students were very ex-cited with this wonder-ful learning opportunity.

T eaching children to appreciate themselves, to search for all those little details that make them unique, to be able

to talk about their likes and dislikes openly and freely, know-ing everything they are about to say is important, makes our students proud, trustworthy and truly comfortable.

This is one of the many activities we carry on in Preschool Interlomas, it was done in Miss Norma´s class (K 3B) and all her students had a wonderful time.

Una de las actividades fundamentales dentro del pro-grama del Grupo Técnico, es la llamada “salidas a la

comunidad”, dicha actividad tiene como finalidad que las personas con discapacidad intelectual conozcan y convivan con lo que hay afuera de la escuela y de su casa, es decir, la comunidad. El aprendizaje va relacionado con conocer las funciones y propósitos de los servicios que se encuentran en la misma, así como las herramientas tanto conductuales como físicas que necesitan para conducirse en la calle, el conocimiento básico del uso y manejo de transportes públi-cos y las medidas de seguridad que se deben tomar.

En esta ocasión el Grupo Técnico San Mateo visitó el Zoo-lógico de chapultepec lo cual tuvo como propósito conocer lo que significa un lugar como éste, qué se puede encontrar allí, la información que se obtiene del mismo; pero sobre todo, aventurarse a una gran experiencia como lo fue ésta.

E l viernes 14 de octubre, fuimos al zoológico de chapultepec, fuimos constanza, José Mi-

guel, Santiago, Paulina, Kenji, Miss Liz, Miss Lety, nos trasladamos en el camión de la escuela, fui-mos a ver a los animales, había mamíferos como tigres, leonas, pandas, osos polares, borrego ci-marrón, lobos, changos.

Me gustó mucho las jirafas, los osos polares, las leonas, los osos negros, los borregos cima-rrón, los changos. No me gustó ver a las víboras porque están feas. En otro lado estaban los rep-tiles que son como las iguanas y después nos fuimos a comer cuando terminamos la visita, de ahí nos salimos del zoológico y nos fuimos a la escuela.

L a escritura es una herramienta útil y aporta aprendizaje significativo, y una de las actividades que los estudian-

tes acaban de desarrollar en la materia de Literatura I es la lectura e interpretación del subgénero narrativo, en este caso el mito y la fábula y con base en lo que aprendieron escribieron las propias.

EL MITO y LA fábuLA


Algunos de quienes por él habían votado, se unieron a su rebelión, otros muy conscientes de que aquella no era la ma-nera correcta de manifestarse, en sus hogares permanecieron. El tiempo dio lugar a que el verdadero animal que el lagarto por dentro llevaba, fuera exhibido y por todos conocido. En un intento por el palacio de Poseidón tomar, el lagarto destruyó las sólidas y hermosas columnas que lo sostenían, símbolos de grandeza de los siete mares. Ante tal inconformidad, el Dios de los Mares entonces decidió a nuevas elecciones convocar.

No obstante, tan descontentos los animales habían que-dado por los malignos actos recientes del lagarto, que su apoyo a la tortuga en definitiva brindaron y al lagarto por siempre olvidaron.

Una reputación se construye en años y se mancha en segundos.

Probablemente lo que más podría llamar la atención de un subgénero tan arcaico es la interpretación de la moraleja, si tiene un fin didáctico y moralizante, es una excelente elección para concebir buenas obras. No deben olvidar los jóvenes que no hay conocimiento mayor que la experiencia. Y para muestra basta un botón:


Miss Angie Galindo came to San Mateo preschool eight years ago as a substitute teacher, and

stayed on to share her great sense of hu-mor and her teaching expertise with the whole Sierra Nevada community.

Angie, a Mexico City native, was born on January 16. She is the oldest of four children, and has a younger brother and two younger sisters. Both of her sisters attended Sierra Nevada, while Angie and her brother went to the American School. Angie graduated from Marymount High School in Cuernavaca.

In spite of her time in the “city of eter-nal springtime”, Angie loves snow. As a child she spent a lot of time in Alaska with her mother. She is an avid skier, and her favorite ski destination is Lake Tahoe, although she has also en-joyed the slopes in Vail and Aspen, Colorado.

Angie is the mother of Andrea, aged 14, Daniela, 11 and Mario, 4. She leads a very busy life keeping up with her teenage and preteen daughters (slumber parties, shop-ping, supervising chats and home-work) and enjoying her time with her own energetic preschooler. In spite of the challenges, she is al-ways in a good mood. Angie knows how to make the most of the time she spends with her children and, thanks to her flexibility and sense of humor, has an excellent relation-ship with each one of them.

Angie didn’t plan on becoming a teacher. In college she was study-ing for a business degree when she started teaching in order to help pay her tuition. But then she discovered that she loved work-

ing with children, and she was hooked. When she talks about her students it is obvious that teaching is her passion, and that she truly enjoys what she does. Her students can tell you how much she cares for each of them, and how she loves to see them learn.

Angie has 16 years experience as a pre-school teacher. Before coming to Sierra Nevada, she taught at Edelweiss. She has a Teacher’s certificate from the Anglo, and a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Alliant University, a degree she earned studying afternoons and nights for five years while working full time and taking care of her children.

That kind of dedication comes naturally to Angie. She is fully committed to her pro-fession, and looks for every opportunity to

update her knowledge about education. One of her dreams is to go on to study a Masters degree.

Angie currently represents the preschool section on a school-wide curricular review committee where she and other teachers study the language arts standards and pro-grams, looking for new approaches to teach-ing English to our students. She freely shares her experience, and is always ready to listen and learn more.

Angie loves teaching Prefirst, where she has been working for the past seven years. It is the culminating year in preschool, where all the previous building up of cognitive, motor and language skills comes together and our children begin to read and write on their own.

As a teacher, Angie’s favorite moment is when her students begin to read. “They feel important when they see they can do it,” she says. “When they start reading, they’re part of the world.” To Angie, reading is the key that opens the door so that kids can connect with other places and times. They can learn about others and re-flect about themselves. Reading is essential.

One of Angie’s favorite experi-ences is finding out that her for-mer students (some of whom are in high school) still love to read. “I saw the beginning,” she says, with excitement. “I was there when they got started!”

How lucky we are to have Miss Angie present when so many of our preschoolers get started on their road to formal literacy! With her patience, good humor and expert guidance, she shows the way to stu-dents and colleagues alike.

Los piojos son unos insectos parásitos de color gris que miden aproximadamente 2mm, habitan en el cabello y se transmi-ten rápidamente por contacto directo entre un cabello y otro. No vuelan ni sal-tan como muchas personas creen, pero es muy común su contagio en sitios concu-

rridos como el hogar, las guarderías, clubs y escuelas.

Una sola hembra puede poner entre 100 y 300 huevos y su periodo de incubación fluctúa entre 7 y 10 días. El riesgo de con-traer piojos aumenta en el verano ya que el clima cálido favorece su reproducción; sin embargo, es muy importante saber, que aunque son unos bichos desagradables, no transmiten ninguna enfermedad y no re-presentan un riesgo para la salud.

El principal síntoma, para detectar a estos milimétricos habitantes, es una co-mezón persistente en el cuero cabelludo, la cual si no es atendida con prontitud, puede causar irritación de la piel o infec-ciones bacterianas.

Estudiantes de MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) en colaboración con la fundación filipina Myshelter Founda-

tion, han desarrollado una bombilla casera de bajo costo para llevar luz a los hogares menos favorecidos del mundo.

Esta ingeniosa tecnología consiste en una botella transparente de plástico rellena con agua purificada y cloro, que se ajusta en los orificios abiertos en los techos y así aprovechar la luz exte-rior durante el día. Esta bombilla ecológica emite luz de 55 v. de electricidad capaz de iluminar toda una habitación.

STuDy SkILLS fROM THE GLObALASSESSMENT CERTIfICATE pROGRAM (GAC)

The Study Skills class focuses on methods, or tips, to aid students to study. It helps channel students’

personal skills towards studying. It also helps to work around certain factors that affect concentration, to enhance the studying experience. In the next couple of paragraphs we are going to analyze some of these factors, and give extra tips and tricks to learn.

There are many factors that influence studying, and they can either be external or internal. External factors are the ones that

have to do with the studying environment. When studying, it is recommended to find a suitable place to study in, preferably a qui-et one, with good lighting and clear it from distractions. Depending on the time period that you are focusing, it is good to have short-term study plans: notes and agendas for mid-term projects and exams and agen-das or calendars for long-term deadlines. Fi-nally, have your books and notebooks ready when you’re going to study.

Having everything ready is useless if you are not ready for studying, internally.

To achieve internal readiness, you have to take four factors into account:

Physically, you want to be in a good sit-ting position to study, and control all of your senses to be free from distractions.

Emotionally, you have to be certain you

want to study, and be focused on that. If you have many things to do at the same time, write them down on a piece of pa-per, to do, later.

on the cognitive side, it is important to have all the books and notes you need, and if you can, have the academic pro-gram available, to know exactly what the teacher expects you to know. That will guide your study.

Spiritually, it is essential to have some sort of motivation for studying, because there is no point in studying if you aren’t motivated in some way.

When you are in class, some strategies help to study for tests, and be better pre-pared to understand the subject: When taking notes in class, it is not necessary to write down, word for word, everything the teacher is dictating or writing on the board. It is more efficient to process what the teacher is saying, and write small key-words based on that. Then, when you fi-nally study for the test, you can remember the information, easier, and remember what the teacher was talking about. Stop-ping to analyze the information also works when reading long texts; highlight-ing certain keywords in the text (not the whole paragraph).

Personally, I usually study with several distractors, and I have to admit that some-times side-tracks me when I have some-thing important to do. And although I have to admit studying isn’t as time-consuming for me than it is for other people, I do have problems when it comes to paying atten-tion and keeping myself focused when I try to study. I should try and commit to keep-ing myself away from distractions when it comes to working or studying at home.

p ensar qué vas a ser de grande es una de las preguntas más comunes cuando eres chiquito; con el tiempo esa

pregunta se va complicando cuando te das cuenta de todo lo que implica crecer, sus beneficios, pero también sus respon-sabilidades. Entiendes para qué sirve la universidad, y también para qué sirvieron todos los años que estuviste en la escuela. Escoger una carrera es una de las decisiones más difíciles que vas a hacer, así como una de las más importantes. Esa elec-ción va a afectar toda tu vida, y ésta va a girar en torno a aquel momento en el que dijiste “Voy a estudiar…” Te dediques a lo que estudiaste o no.

Pensar en tu futuro es tan importante, que lo haces cada día, cada segundo de tu vida, y ¿qué mejor que la escuela te ayude a tomar la mejor decisión? La escuela organizó una feria de Universidades el 7 de octubre del 2011, evento que se lleva a cabo cada año y donde asisten más de 40 instituciones. En esta feria viene gente a explicarnos todo acerca de la carrera que nos interesa, y a informarnos de su universidad. Gente que estudió esa carrera viene a platicarnos de cómo es y qué es lo que hacen durante ella, también nos dicen en qué trabajaría-mos, en fin, nos lo cuentan todo.

En mi opinión es un evento que todas las escuelas deberían hacer. Muchas personas pierden mucho tiempo decidiendo qué van a estudiar, algunos se toman años sabáticos o cam-bian constantemente de carrera. Una feria de universidades ayuda a descartar muchas opciones que tenías en mente, que al final te das cuenta que realmente no son lo que creías, o lo que esperabas. Tal vez no ayude a escoger una carrera con completa seguridad, pero si reduce la lista, o bien te da nuevas opciones que jamás creíste que te podrían interesar.
