Tervetuloa ANTI-festivaalille 2009!
Viimeisen seitsemän vuoden aikana ANTI-festivaalin taiteilijat ovat uudelleenmääritelleet Kuopion kaupunkitiloja monivivahteisella ja inspiroivalla esitysten ja pitkäkestoisten teos-ten kokoelmalla. Yleisö saapuu Kuopioon, nappaa kartan käteensä ja kulkee teoksesta toiseen taideteosten toimiessa kiintopisteinä pitkän, yllättävän nautittavan kävelymatkan varrella. Tänä vuonna päätimme tuoda esiin kävelyä itseään – liikkumista inhimilliseen tahtiin omassa elinympäristössämme. Halusimme ANTI-festivaalin tulevan ulos kaduille näyttämään, miten taiteilijat hyödyntävät kävelyä töissään. Teema tuntui sopivan hyvin tänne sauvakävelyn luvattuun maahan ja Kuopion kaupunkiin, joka tarjoaa kävelemiselle upeat puitteet.
Esittelemme nyt sarjan kävelyteoksia, joita ovat luoneet joukko maailman mielenkiin-toisimpia taiteilijoita. Yksi heistä kävelee maratonin Kuopion ostoskeskuksessa, toinen saapuu Kuopioon laulaen käveltyään 160 km Kiuruvedeltä, kolmas antaa tuulen kul-jettaa häntä tuntematonta polkua pitkin. Taiteilijat johdattavat meitä sekä virtuaalisten maisemien että todellisten tuoksuvien parfyymiosastojen halki. ANTI-festivaalin kunniaksi luodaan uusi oikopolku ja koko Suomi kutsutaan aarteenetsintään, joka johtaa meitä sinne tänne taidekätkön perässä. Nämä ja monta muuta teosta tarkastelevat kävelyä sen kaikissa muodoissa, nautintoineen ja kipuineen.
Kun kengät potkaistaan jalasta, on aika rentoutua. Käy festivaalikeskus Introssa syömässä tai juomassa ja jos virtaa vielä riittää, vaikka tanssimassa kahtena klubi-iltana. Mikä on-kaan parempaa kun päivän kävelyn päätteeksi, antaa jonkun muun laittaa ruokaa? Muis-ta varata paikka Kaupungintalolle, jossa alkaa lauantaina klo 21 unohtumaton tanssin, viinin ja hyvän ruoan ilta. Siispä kävelykengät jalkaan, jalkaa toisen eteen ja ANTI-festivaalista 2009 nauttimaan!

Welcome to ANTI 2009!
For the past seven years of the ANTI Festival artists have reconfigured Kuopio’s urban, suburban and rural spaces with a truly eclectic and inspiring mix of performance and installation. Audiences arrive in Kuopio, grab a map and begin walking from project to project; the artworks functioning as nodal points on what becomes a surprisingly enjoy-able long walk through the city. This year we foreground that process, the process of walking, of putting one foot in front of the other and moving at human-pace through the land in which we live. It seems fitting in a country so fond of Nordic walking and in a city surrounded by forests and lakes, for ANTI to take to the streets and look at how artists use walking in their work.
So we present a series of walks created by some of the world’s most exciting artists; a full marathon will be walked through the city’s commercial space, an artist will arrive singing into Kuopio, having walked 160km from Kiuruvesi, another will be blown by the wind on an unknowable path, artists will guide us on tours of virtual space and of the very real, aromatic, space of the city’s perfumery counters. A new path will be created in honour of ANTI and the entire country will be invited on a treasure hunt that will take us high and low in search of buried treasure. These projects, and many others begin to show walking in all of its forms, with all of its pleasure and pain.
When we’ve hung up our boots there’s plenty to relax us – visit Intro, the Festival Centre to eat, drink and even dance if you have the energy, at our two club nights. And after a day walking what’s better than being cooked for? Make sure you visit the Town Hall on Satur-day at 9pm for your pass to a quite extraordinary night of dance, wine and fine food.
So put on your walking boots, put one foot in front of the other and enjoy the 2009 ANTI Festival!

SLaaristokaupunki
Second Life:ssa, kolmiulotteisessa virtuaalisessa saaristossa, tila ei ole jatkuvaa ja kävely on anakronista. Stephen Hodge johdattaa yleisön lyhyelle kävelymat-kalle, jossa voi katsoa Kallaveden yli kohti Saaristokaupunkia. Hodgen avatar-hahmo Drifter Rhode johdattaa toiselle kävelylle virtuaalimaiseman läpi, josta voi etsiä yhteyksiä reaalimaailman Kuopioon. SLaaristokaupunki esitetään yhdel-le ihmiselle kerrallaan. Esitykseen ei tarvita kokemusta Second Life:sta.
“Olen Wrights & Sites-ryhmän ydinjäsen. Ryhmä koostuu brittiläisistä taiteilija-tut-kijoista, joilla on erityinen suhde paikkaan, kaupunkiin, maisemaan ja kävelyyn. Avattareni on Drifter Rhode, joka kuratoi Arts Council England:n rahoittamaa ti-lausteosten, työpajojen ja esitelmien ohjelmaa nimeltä 2ND LIVE. 2ND LIVE tutkii live-esitystä Second Life:ssä. SLaaristokaupunki-teoksessa kohtaavat nämä kaksi työn aluetta, kaupunki ja kävely. Olen kiinnostunut näkemään, mitä tapahtuu kun kävelypohjainen työtapa siirretään reaalimaailmasta Second Life:en.”

In Second Life®, the 3D online digital archipelago, space is discontinuous and walking is anachronistic. Stephen Hodge will lead you on a short walk to an intimate space, looking over Lake Kallavesi towards Saaristokaupunki. Here, his avatar Drifter Rhode will accompany you on a second walk, this time through a virtual landscape, where together you will search for connections back to the Real Life Kuopio. SLaaristokaupunki is for one person at a time. Previous experi-ence in the Second Life environment is not required.
“I am a core member of Wrights & Sites, a group of UK-based artist-researchers with a special relationship to site, city/landscape and walking. My avatar, Drifter Rhode, curates 2ND LIVE, an Arts Council England funded programme of commis-sions, workshops and presentations which aims to explore live performance in the Second Life® world. SLaaristokaupunki marks a convergence of these two areas of work, and I am interested in what might be discovered through shifting walking-based practices from Real Life to Second Life”.

Over four days, Gosling will walk (the) 160km to Kuopio from Kiuruvesi. En route he’ll take audio recordings and create a song from the journey’s rhythm. The first three days will be walked by the artist alone but on the fourth day you’re invited to join him as he enters Kuopio, singing. Musical instruments are welcome, except flutes.
A sound work, created from edited sections of the audio captured on the walk will be available for download from www.antifestival.com on 5th October 2009.
“Since 2000 I’ve made extensive use of hitchhiking and walking as art-productive processes, variously exploring relationships of site/consciousness/work. Hello brings together and advances numerous preoccupations and lines of enquiry, encompassing transience, unpredictability, fleeting encounter, the filtered-out and unnoticed, the discreetly extraordinary, repetition and rhythm, the made-up song as companion, interior/exterior space, the flexibility and plasticity of time, detached sound as enhancer of the absent familiar, detached sound as conjuror of the enigmatic.”

Neljän päivän aikana Gosling kävelee 160 km matkan Kiuruvedeltä Kuopioon. Matkan varrella hän tekee äänitallenteen ja luo laulun matkan rytmistä. Ensim-mäiset kolme päivää Gosling kävelee yksin, mutta neljäntenä päivänä yleisö voi liittyä Goslingin seuraan hänen saapuessa laulaen Kuopioon. Soittimet ovat myös tervetulleita -huiluja lukuun ottamatta.

Gwendoline Robin places the object and the body in space to create ever more complex installations and performances; the object responds to space, move-ment responds to fire and light responds to the sound of the explosion. The artist’s body can explore, perform and dance with the danger and the poetry of fire.
”There is immediacy in Gwendoline Robin’s work; a relationship with the present moment given by the suddenness of the explosion, the very essence of fire, the evanescence of smoke. Tule katsomaan työpajan esitystä, ANTI-festivaalin 2009 päätös-tapahtumaa, sunnuntaina klo 19.30 Satamatorille
ANTI-festivaalin yhteydessä järjestetään kaksi lasten työpajaa. Taitei-lija Gwendoline Robin Belgiasta ohjaa lapsia kollektiivisen yhteistai-deteoksen tekemisessä. Lapset tekevät mielikuvituksellisia alustoja ilotulitteille. Lasten tekemät alusta kootaan yhteen ja sunnuntai-iltana ANTI-festivaali päättyy unohtumattoman hienoon esitykseen, jossa taiteilija Gwendoline Robin sytyttää alustoilla olevat ilotulitteet hie-noksi kokonaisuudeksi. Työpajan aikana lapset eivät ole tekemisissä ilotulitteiden kanssa.

ANTI Festival 2009 offers two children’s workshops. Belgium Artist Gwendoline Robin will work with children in producing a collaborative piece of art. The childen will create imaginative launch-pads for a fire-work display. The launch-pads will be used in an unforgetable closing performance to this year’s festival as Robin litearlly sets the children’s work alight! Particpating children will at no time come into contact with fireworks, either during the workshop or the performance. The workshop can accommodate 20 children at a time, aged 6-12. Walk The Line
In Walk The Line Laitinen will walk his portrait onto Kuopio with the help of a satellite positioning device (GPS). Laitinen will first print his portrait onto a map of Kuopio, orientate himself according to the lines of the portrait and then begin to walk though the city. The GPS will log his journey ‘drawing’ his portrait across the city’s streets.

“In my performances, I place myself in different absurd situations that underlie an ironic and personal take on various social and cultural phenomena. The absurdity comes from the seriousness with which it is performed. My artistic practice is located between performance art and visual art. I make performances that are sometimes translated into photographs, videos and/or sculptural work. I am interested in trans-forming physical activity in works of art and in this sense, my art practice is very much process oriented.”

Walk The Line
Walk The Line -teoksessa Laitinen kävelee muotokuvansa Kuopioon hyöyntäen GPS-navigaattoria. Laitinen tulostaa ensin muotokuvansa Kuopion kartalle ja suunnistaa sitten kävellen muotokuvan ääriviivoja pitkin kaupungin halki. Na-vigaattori tallentaa Laitisen matkan “piirtäen” hänen muotokuvansa kaupungin kaduille.
Laitisen muotokuvan muodostumista voi seurata osoitteessa www.antifestival.com. Laitisen muotokuvan reaaliaikaista etenemistä seurataan perjantain seminaarissa.
“Teoksissani asetan itseni erilaisiin absurdeihin tilanteisiin, joissa heijastuu ironinen ja omakohtainen näkökulmani sosiaalisiin ja kulttuuri-ilmiöihin. Absurdius syntyy vakavuudesta, jolla teos esitetään. Taiteeni sijoittuu performanssin ja visuaalisen taiteen välimaastoon. Luon esityksiä, jotka joskus ottavat valokuvan, videon ja/tai veistoksen muodon. Olen kiinnostunut muuntamaan fyysisiä tekoja taiteeksi ja tässä suhteessa työtapani keskittyy hyvin paljon itse prosessiin.”

Hájek a Porcal
Hájek a Porcal on kahden tsekkiläisen taiteilijan yhteistyö. Taiteilijat käyttävät Geocachingia nykytaiteen esittämiseen ja levittämiseen. Heidän työnsä puhutte-lee suoraan kahta yhteisöä: nykytaide- ja Geocaching-yhteisöä. Geocaching eli geokätköily on maailmanlaajuista toimintaa, missä osanottajat tekevät kätköjä, jonka GPS koordinaatit he sitten julkaisevat internetissä. Toiset osanottajat voivat niiden avulla etsiä ja lopulta löytää kätkön.
ANTI-festivaalia varten Hájek a Porcal on haudannut kätköjä eri puolille Suomea. Jokainen kätkö sisältää pienen teoksen tsekkiläistä nykytaidetta. Käy netissä osoit-teessa www.antifestival.com perjantaina 25.9. klo 9 aloittaaksesi etsinnät. “Taiteilijoina työskentelemme erikseen, mutta joskus kohtaamme projekteissa, joissa uskomme erilaisten lähestymistapojemme synnyttävän jotain uutta. Nämä projektit ovat yleensä erillisiä sivuretkiä omista töistämme. Yhteistuotantomme ovat enimmäkseen paikkasidonnaisia projekteja, joissa pyrimme luomaan uusia suhteita ihmisten, paikkojen tai tilanteiden välille. Tavallisesti esitämme työmme julkisissa tiloissa, jotta voimme tarjota yleisölle uusia elämyksiä.”

Hájek a Porcal
Hájek a Porcal is a collaboration between two Czech artists who use Geocach-ing for the presentation and distribution of contemporary art. Their work talks directly to two social communities; contemporary art and the growing online Geocaching community. Geocaching is a global activity where people hide a cache somewhere in the world and then publish its GPS coordinates online for other people to hunt and eventually find.
For ANTI 2009 Hájek a Porcal have buried caches across of Finland. Each cache contains a small piece of contemporary Czech art. Go online on Friday 25/9 at 9am to begin your hunt: www.antifestival.com.
“As artists we work separately, but sometimes we meet on the same project when we feel our different art approaches will be multiplied and will positively influence the result. These projects are typically diversions from our individual practices. The artworks produced from our collaboration are mostly site-specific projects in which we attempt to create new relationships among people, places or situations. Usually we present our artworks in public space to offer audiences a new experience.”

Teoksessaan Nadeau luo oikopolun kuopiolaisille jalankulkijoille. Nadeau kul-kee toistuvasti kahden pisteen väliä pienellä nurmikolla kymmenen päivän ajan. Tämä päivittäinen huomaamaton esitys luo nurmelle näkyvän polun, jota kutsu-taan nimellä ‘oikopolku’: polku, jonka jalankulkijat luovat, jotta voivat paremmin liikkua tietyssä tilassa. Nadeau will create a shortcut for urban pedestrians by adopting a daily sche-dule of repeatedly walking between two points across a small grassy division. This daily discreet performance will create a visible path in the grass, commonly known as a ‘desire path’: a path pedestrians create to better traverse a particu-lar space. Nadeau hopes she will inspire others to follow the shortcut, thereby enforcing its presence. A small sign will be posted at the project's site, with the invitation: ‘please walk’.
Join Nadeau in creating the path from Wednesday 23rd September. Please help the artist with the work throughout the festival and return for the path’s grand opening on Sunday 27th September 3pm.
“City streets and structural barriers present an ensemble of possibilities and inter-dictions to the urban pedestrian. Occasionally however, it is the pedestrian who creates the city, inventing pathways and creating shortcuts to suit his needs. Like animals drawn to follow the tracks of the herd, we will instinctually take the beaten track rather than the paved road. I think of each path as an ongoing collabora-tive effort between strangers, as countless pedestrians are needed to create and enforce a footpath.”

“La Pocha Nostra” performanssi-interventio osasto
La Pocha Nostra on vapaamuotoinen ryhmä kapinahenkisiä taiteilijoita San Franciscosta. Heidän ryhmällään on jäseniä eri maissa mukaan lukien Meksiko, Kolumbia ja Espanja. La Pocha Nostran perustajajäsenet Guillermo Gómez-Peña ja Roberto Sifuentes sekä kolmas jäsen Euroopasta yhdessä kolmen suomalaisen taiteilijan kanssa toteuttavat sarjan julkisia performanssi-interventioita. Perjan-taina ja lauantaina ryhmä vierailee Kuopion julkisilla paikoilla tehden humo-ristisia ja provokatiivisia esityksiä. Esitysten tavoitteena on mitata paikallisten suvaitsevaisuutta toiseutta kohtaan ja heidän ajatuksiaan live art -taiteesta sekä samalla tuottaa mytologiaa ANTI-festivaalista.

The “Pocha Nostra” performance intervention brigade
La Pocha Nostra is a loose association of rebel artists based in San Francisco with chapters in various countries including Mexico, Colombia and Spain. Two founding members of La Pocha Nostra, Guillermo Gómez-Peña and Roberto Sifuentes along with a 3rd European member, will colaborate with three Finnish artists on a series of public performance art interventions. On Friday and Saturday the ephemeral crew will visit various public sites in the city and stage humorous and provocative performance interventions. The goal is to asses the public’s tolerance for otherness and notions of performance art while incorporating them into the piece and at the same time to generate a hit and run mythology.
”La Pocha Nostra is an ever morphing “trans-disciplinary arts organization”. Based in San Francisco with factions in many other countries and cities, our mission statement reads: “[We] provide a center (and forum) for a loose network of rebel artists from various disciplines, generations and ethnic backgrounds.” Our common denominator is our desire to cross and erase dangerous borders between art and politics, practice and theory, artist and spectator, mentor and apprentice. We strive to eradicate myths of purity and dissolve borders surrounding culture, ethnicity, gender, language, and métier. Sadly, in these times, these are still considered radical acts. The Spanglish neologism ‘Pocha Nostra’ translates as either ‘our impurities’ or “the cartel of cultural bastards”. We love this poetic ambiguity. It reveals an attitude towards art and society: “Cross-racial, poly-gendered, experimental, y que?”

Traipsing(ing) -ääniteoksen kantaesitys sunnuntaina 27.9. klo 18 Introssa.
Monet meistä laulavat, hyräilevät tai viheltävät kävellessään. Olipa kyseessä kaikkialla soiva pophitti tai aivan oma aaria, sisäiset melodiat ohjaavat aske-liamme. Traipsing(ing) luo kuorolaulun äänitteistä, jotka osanottajat luovat spontaanisti kävellessään sovittua reittiä. Osanottajille annetaan kartta ja ää-nityslaite. Kuunnellessaan matkan varrella taustanauhaa, osanottajat painavat äänitysnappia ja liittyvät halutessaan mukaan. O’Hara lupaa, että editoinnista syntyy sävellys, joka on “yhteistyönä luotu mestariteos”!

“Luon tapahtumia, jotka tutkiskelevat spektaakkelin asiayhteyksiä. Improvisaatio on mieluinen työväline, koska siinä on aina läsnä virheen ja epäonnistumisen mahdollisuus. Improvisaatiossa katsojan tietoisuus keskittyy tähän hetkeen. Itse-oppineena olen kiinnostunut omatoimisuudesta ja läsnäolemisesta. Työskentelen äänen parissa, joka on ei-visuaalinen media, se antaa katsojan mielikuvituksen laukata vapaana. Many of us sing, hum or whistle as we walk. Whether it’s a ubiquitous pop song or our own aria, our steps are guided by inner melodies. With Traipsing(ing) a choral song is composed using cumulative recordings that participants create spontaneously while walking a predetermined path. Participants are given a map & a recording device. Listening to a bed track while walking, they press record and join in when they like. O’Hara will then edit the tracks to compose what she promises will be a collaborative masterpiece!
Once you’ve made your recording come back to Intro, the Festival Centre at 6pm on Sunday to hear the premier of the collective Traipsing(ing) track.
“I create events that examine connections in the context of the spectacle. Impro-visation is a favourite tool as it carries the omnipresent possibility of error and failure, it creates circumstances whereby the spectator is refocused with present-minded awareness. As an auto-didact, I am interested in the principles of do-it-yourself and ‘availabism’. I work with sound because it is an extro-visual medium that allows the spectators’imaginations to run wild. My recent obsession is to sort out ways to remove the performer from the performance.”

Archsuit on sarja veistoksellisia asuja, joiden avulla keho voi vastustaa kaupun-kiympäristön kovia pintoja pehmeiden, päälle puettavien muotojen avulla. Arch-suit sopii yhteen arkkitehtuurin kanssa tehden kehon ja rakennetun ympäristön suhteesta vaikuttavan. Osanottajat voivat pukea Archsuit-puvun ylleen ja sopia niiden avulla yhteen erilaisten kuopiolaisten paikkojen kanssa. Kiertäessämme paikasta toiseen keskustelemme kaupunkisuunnittelun kehityksestä sekä arkki-tehtuurista suhteessa ihmisen mukavuudenhaluun ja sosiaaliseen läsnäoloon.

Archsuit
Archsuit is a suite of sculptural apparatuses that enable the body to counter hard surfaces of urban spaces using soft wearable forms. Archsuit corresponds to specific architecture, making the relationship between the body and the built en-vironment spectacular. Participants can wear an Archsuit in order to fit into sites around Kuopio. As we tour and perform each site we will discuss the develop-ment of urban planning and architecture as it pertains to human comfortability and social engagement.
“I am interested in discourse of safety and security as manifested in the day-to-day landscape of cities, towns and neighbourhoods. My work is an exploration into the aesthetic manifestations of the built environment, and the relationships they could indicate. The interstices of affect and human landscapes have propelled me to work in multiple forms and materials, which include customized jogging suits, performative photographs, fantastical proposals for public spaces, and street posters.”

Tässä harvinaislaatuisessa tapahtumassa ihmisillä on tilaisuus kokea valikoituja paloja tulevasta “kokemuspuistosta” (Experience Park) ‘Kuopio 2009’. Esitelmä alkaa klo 22 ja on kestoltaan noin puoli tuntia, jonka jälkeen DJ Don Walsh soit-taa ikivanhan, nostalgisen vuoden 2009 suurimpia hittejä. Tapahtuma esittelee Kuopion ihmeitä vuodelta 2009, mutta on samalla eloisa klubi kaikille festivaa-livieraille.

Kolme samanaikaista matkaa kuljetaan halki Kuopion katujen. Nämä jalankul-kijat, joista yksi on kaupungin hyvin tunteva suomalainen ja kaksi kansainvälistä vierasta, työskentelevät fyysisen liikkeen ja kanssakäymisen kautta yhdessä kau-punkikorttelien sekä todellisten ihmisten kanssa.
BodyCartography perustettiin vuonna 1998. Sitä johtavat tanssi- ja videotaiteilijat Olive Bieringa ja Otto Ramstad. ”Työmme tutkii kansainvälisesti tanssin, videon ja installaation avulla tilan fyysistä merkityksellisyyttä kaupungeissa, yksityisissä kodeissa ja sosiaalisissa maisemissa. Työskentelemme itsenäisten taiteilijoiden, järjestöjen ja tutkijoiden kanssa tavoittaaksemme ja provosoidaksemme yleisöä. Three simultaneous solo journeys are undertaken through the streets of Kuopio. These pedestrians, one Finn who knows the city and two international visitors, will work with physical action and interaction on several city blocks of real estate and with real people.
Go is an investigation into the ongoing journey between our inner and outer landscapes and the ecological entwinement of self, other, and environment. The work is an investigation of physical freedom and kinesthetic empathy with the urban environment and its inhabitants.
The BodyCartography Project was founded in 1998 and is co-directed by dance and video artists Olive Bieringa and Otto Ramstad. "Our work investigates the physical resonance of space in urban, wild, domestic and social landscapes through dance, video and installation work internationally. We engage and pro-voke audiences in diverse contexts working with independent artists, organizatons and scientists. Our work has been presented in Minneapolis, San Francisco, NYC, Canada, New Zealand, Japan, Europe, Russia and South America. Live Windwalks
Tim Knowles tarkkailee maailmaa maleksijana lähestyen työtään leikkimieli-sesti, uteliaisuudella, sattumanvaraisuudella ja kekseliäisyydellä. Live Windwalks –teoksessa Knowles lähtee kävelemään ja antaa vain tuulen johdattaa häntä. Tätä teosta varten hän on tehnyt tuulta mittaavan siiven, joka on kiinnitetty kypärään. Kypäriä on saatavilla myös yleisön jäsenille, jotka voivat näin liittyä Knowlesin joukkoon tai vain seurata Knowlesin mutkittelua, kun tuuli kääntyy ja pyörteilee kaupungin halki.

Tim Knowles observes the world as a contemporary flaneur, approaching his work with playfulness, curiosity, chance and inventiveness. In Live Windwalks Knowles sets off walking, guided solely by the wind. For this piece he has cre-ated an extraordinary wind vane mounted to a helmet; helmets will be available for members of the audience too, who can join Knowles or simply watch as he meanders though the city blown one way then the other as the wind changes and falters within the cities form.
“Chance plays a crucial part in my work, akin to scientific experimentation, a situ-ation is engineered in which the work is produced by factors beyond my control. It is the wind, rippling of water, motion of a vehicle, postmen, insects or players of a game that unwittingly determine the outcome of the work. For the Windwalks I become an avatar or pawn of a system, a performative process which dictates my movements through the landscape.”

Streams
Streams on kahden tanssijan, muusikon ja valosuunnittelijan välinen vuoropuhe-lu, jossa kaikkien impulssit vievät improvisaatiolle perustuvaa teosta eteenpäin. Streams tavoittelee demokratiaa paitsi esiintyjien, myös esiintyjien ja yleisön vä-lillä. Teos pyrkii hylkäämään hierarkiat ja ennalta määritetyt roolit. Yleisö ja esiintyjät muodostavat seurueen, joka jakaa kokonaisen yön. Kaikkea on paljon: tanssia on paljon, musiikkia on paljon, ruokapöytä notkuu herkuista eikä puna-viini lopu juomalla.
”Tapasimme ensimmäisen kerran Prahassa vuonna 2004 ja olemme siitä lähti-en tehneet yhteistyötä. Vähitellen työtoveruus on muuttunut ystävyydeksi ja ys-tävyys sielunkumppanuudeksi. Elämä, ystävyys ja työprosessit ovat kietoutuneet erottamattomasti toisiinsa. Meitä yhdistää halu työskennellä monitaiteellisissa produktioissa, vuorovaikutuksessa toisten taiteilijoiden kanssa, ilman hierarkioita. Haluamme esiintyjinä tuoda kokonaisen ihmisen näyttämölle, niin että kaikki ih-misen kerrokset ovat läsnä: älyllinen, tunteellinen, seksuaalinenkin, rationaalinen ja irrationaalinen. Työprosessimme, johon kutsuimme mukaan muusikon ja valo-suunnittelijan, on sisältänyt pohdintaa taiteemme arvomaailmasta, päämääristä, ilmaisukeinoista ja poliittisuudesta.”
Esitys alkaa klo 21 ja kestää noin kuusi tuntia. Klo 21 yleisölle jaetaan rannekkeet, joilla pääsee liikkumaan tilasta vapaasti sisään ja ulos. Tämän jälkeen sisälle pää-see vain rannekeella.
Streams
Streams is a dialogue between two dancers, a musician and a lighting designer. The impulses of each participant propel the improvisational piece onward. The piece strives for a kind of democracy which includes not only the performers, but the audience as well. Streams fights to reject hierarchies and any predetermined, or given roles. The audience and performers share an entire night like a dinner party would. Everything is plentiful: there is much dance, much music, there is food in abundance and they never run out of wine.
“We met for the first time in Prague in 2004 and have been collaborating ever since. Gradually our working relationship has turned into friendship, and friend-ship into being soulmates. Life, friendship and working processes have been inex-tricably intertwined. We are bound by the desire to work in multi-artistic produc-tions, in interaction with other artists, without hierarchy. As performers we wish to bring a whole person on stage so that all the manifold layers are on view: intel-lectual, emotional, even sexual, rational with the irrational. Our working process, to which we invited a musician and a lighting designer, has included deliberation of the value set of our art, its aims, means of expression and political nature.”
The performance begins at 9pm and lasts approximately 6 hours. At 9pm you’ll be given a wristband which allows you to go in and out of the space. After 9pm, only audience members with a wristband are allowed into the performance space.

The Puijo Hill 3-Day
The Puijo Hill 3-Day on pitkäkestoinen performanssivaellus, joka alkaa Puijon Tornin, Kuopion kuuluisan nähtävyyden juurelta. Taiteilija kehottaa muita liitty-mään mukaan, kun hän kolmen päivän ajan kulkee mäkeä ylös ja alas. Kuka tahansa on tervetullut samaan tapaan kuin sponsoroiduilla kävelytempauksilla. Rekisteröidyille osanottajille annetaan numerolaput tapahtuman ajaksi, sekä ommeltavat rintamerkit muistoksi tapahtumasta.
“Työni on tutkielma humanitäärisestä liikkeestä luonnonympäristössä, etenkin matkailijoiden kokemana. Kävelyesityksessäni näen kävelemisen keinona tulkita vaikeuksia, haasteita ja vastustusta, jota arkeen kuuluu. Nämä työt omaksuvat urheilullisen sävyn, ikään kuin treenauksen tylsän luonteen. Kysyn usein: ‘kuinka hyvin, kuinka nopeasti, kuinka pitkään ja kuinka paljon paremmin rankkaa työtä voi sietää?’”
The Puijo Hill 3-Day
The Puijo Hill 3-Day is a durational performance hike that will begin at the base of Puijo Ridge, the famous landmark of Kuopio. The artist encourages others to join him as he spends three days hiking up and down the hill. Anyone may join ‘the cause’, much like an organized fundraising walk. All registered participants will be issued a bib number to wear during the hike and given a commemorative embroidered patch as a souvenir of the experience.
“My work is a study in humanistic movement found within the natural environ-ment, mostly of the kind experienced among the privileged in the travel and tour-ism industry. In my performance hikes, I see walking as a way to interpret the struggle, challenge, and opposition encountered in everyday life. These works embrace an athletic tone, as if taking on the tedium of training and exercising. I constantly ask, ‘How well, how fast, how long and how much better can one handle the hard work?'"

Flickers
Flickers on kävelyretki, jota ohjaavat pläräilykirjat ja käsin veivattavat animaa-tiovälineet. Välineissä on valokuvia oikeasta ympäristöstä, jotka sitten asetetaan ohikiitävinä filminomaisina kuvina kävelijän näkökenttään. Pläräilykirjat kuvittavat edessä olevaa reittiä ohjaten leikkisästi osallistujia mai-semassa olevien odottamattomien aukkojen yli. Ne pakottavat tutkimaan sitä, mitä jää jälkeen ja alle, nostattaen iloista odotusta ja jännitystä. Se antaa uutta intensiivisyyttä näyille ja löydetyille esineille. “Olen kiinnostunut kävelystä tekona, siitä kuinka se kiinnittää huomiomme aivan aistien äärirajoille, korostaen maisemaa ja laukaisten unenomaisia ketjureaktioita ja visioita. Työni seuraa haluamme kulkea rakennusten välisissä kapeikoissa, yli joutomaiden tai halki metsäaukioiden löytääksemme paikan, missä olemme yk-sin. Se vihjaa: ‘Täällä olen suojassa katseilta, mutta en siltä, mikä minua saattaa kohdata’.”
Flickers
Flickers is a walk navigated by flick books and hand-cranked animation devices which place fleeting filmic images, created from photographs of the real environ-ment, into the landscape before a walker's eyes. Each flick book animates the way ahead, playfully compelling the participant through unexpected gaps in the landscape; investigating what is behind and underneath; building a sense of excitement and trepidation that lends visionary intensity to sights and objects found there. “I am interested in the act of walking, in how it brings our focus to the very edge of our senses, amplifying the landscape and triggering dream-like powers of loco-motion, of vision. My work follows our desire to walk the gaps between buildings, over waste ground or through breaks in the trees to find places we feel ourselves alone. It probes the suggestion: 'Here I am safe from being seen, but not from what I may come upon’.”

Tunteellinen matka
Tom Marshman tarjoaa kävelykierroksen suosikkipaikkaansa – tavarataloon. Teos perustuu Marshmanin kokemukseen työskentelystä parfyymiosastoilla vii-meisen kuuden vuoden ajalta. Hän paljastaa viettelevän paikan, jonne voi paeta kurjaa maailmaa. Marshman käsittelee kaipauksen ja halun ilmiöitä sekä myös kuluttamisen rumempaa puolta, jonka tuotteita myyvät kohtaavat.
Kyseessä on sisarteos vuonna 2006 Bristolin Old Vic:n Mayfestiin Marshmanin tekemälle teokselle, jonka osia esitettiin myös Burst Festivaalilla Battersea-tai-dekeskuksessa 2008.
“Olen Arnolfini-taiteilija ja toiminut esiintyvänä taiteilijana kymmenen vuotta. Olen tuottanut yli 20 projektia, jotka vaihtelevat performanssista valokuvaukseen, installaatioon, julkaisuihin ja elävään kuvaan. Sentimental Journey
Tom Marshman offers a grand tour of his favourite places – the department store. Rooted in his experience of working on perfumery counters over the last six years Marshman reveals a place of seduction where one can seek solace from a cruel world. Here he shares the longing and desire, the aspiration and the uglier side of consumption that is engendered when working with such commodities.
This performative walk is a companion work to his 2006 performance The Seat of Memory made for Mayfest at the Bristol Old Vic and also performed as part of Burst Festival at Battersea Arts Centre June 2008
”I’m an Arnolfini associate artist. I’ve been a practising performance artist for ten years and during that time I’ve produced over 20 projects in a wide range of me-diums including performance, photography, installation, publication and film. To date the purpose of my work has been to address issues that are often considered as mundane or commonplace. The results give very evocative glimpses into every-day things. My practice incorporates visual images and multi-layered signifiers employing video, movement, sound, and text-based performance. I have a specific humorous, playful and eccentric, authentic sensibility where I place myself clearly within the frame.”
