Program Refunds

The Revelstoke Parks, Recreation & Culture Department want you to enjoy your recreation experience. Please note that we apply different refund policies to varying classes & programs. For more information, inquire at the front desk or check your receipt for details.

If you find the class is not what you expected and you want to cancel, please make sure you call BEFORE the second class and we will refund you the remaining sessions less a $15.00 administration fee. No refunds are given after the 2nd session except where circumstances are beyond the individual's control.

FULL refunds are given if the Revelstoke Parks, Recreation & Culture Department cancels the program.

Please note: Some refunds make take up to three weeks to process.

Hall Rentals The Community Centre offers an excellent facility for banquets, weddings, trade shows, large meetings, and conferences with accommodation for up to 400 people. Full commercial kitchen is available with place settings for up to 400. We provide staging, tables, (banquet style or round) AV system, internet connection and large pull down screens. Limited WiFi connection throughout the building is also in-cluded. 33

NOTE: Wedding Bookings should be made at least 6 months to 1 year in advance to

guarantee a rental at the Revelstoke Community Centre.

We have a Fitness Centre for your use before or after your swim! Our equipment offers 2 treadmills, 4 ellipticals, 3 bicycles and 1 stair climber. A universal gym and free weights are also available. Admission rates are the same as the Aquatic Centre or you can purchase a combined pass for extra savings. * Children under the age of 13 are not permitted in the gym without adult supervision.*

Electronic Punch Cards Electronic Punch Cards can be used for both the Aquatic Centre and the Fitness Centre. Scan in, and easily reload your card when you’re all out!

AQUATIC CENTRE

Come check out our Aquatic Centre which features a 25 meter Lap Pool, Diving Board, Rock Climb-ing Wall, Waterslide, as well as Leisure pool, Lazy river, Tots pool, Hot tub, Steam room and Sauna. The Aquatic center is a great place for family fun, exercise and relaxation, but it can be a great place for therapy and physiotherapy. Preschool Birthday Party 3 - 6 years (Maximum 8 children - if more we'll chat) Children under the age of six including one parent in the water can celebrate their birthday in the beach area of the pool! Advanced Aquatic Training

Bronze Star Bronze Star is a pre Bronze Medallion program that provides excellent preparation for success

in obtaining Bronze Medallion Award. In Bronze Star participants develop problem solving and decision making skills as they relate to water

rescue and first aid.

Pre-requisite: 10 years and up & Ability to swim

Dates: July 28th - 31st

Time: 12:30pm – 3:30pm

Did you know Bronze Cross and the NLS courses can earn you credits towards your High School Diploma!

Bronze Medallion The Bronze Medallion award teaches an understanding of the lifesaving principles embodied in the four components of water rescue education; judgment, skill and fitness. Rescuers learn tows; carries; defense and released methods in preparation for challenging rescues of increased risk, involving conscious and unconscious victims of various types. Participants also develop stroke efficiency and endurance in timed swim.

Pre requisite: Bronze Star or 13 years of age

Bronze Cross The Bronze Cross award is designed for lifesaver who want the challenge of more advanced training, including an introduction to safe supervision in aquatic facilities. Bronze Cross is a prerequisite for all advanced training programs including National Lifeguard (NL) and Instructor Certification.

Pre-requisites: Bronze Medallion (must show proof of certification)

Dates: July 22nd - 25th

Standard First Aid /CPR C Comprehensive training covering all aspects of first aid, CPR and AED use! Whether you need training for employment or simply want to be prepared to respond to life-threatening emergencies, this course will give you the skills and knowledge to act with confidence. Through practical activities, you will learn to recognize and treat injuries including head and spinal, soft-tissue, facial, abdominal and chest, burns, bones and joint, and other common medical emergencies.

This course is a prerequisite for taking your National Lifeguard .

Advanced Aquatic Training National Lifeguard Program

The National Lifeguard (NL) awards builds on the skills, knowledge and values that the Lifesaving Society teach-es in its Pre-Bronze and Bronze Medal awards to develop the practical skills and knowledge required by lifeguards.

Recognized as the standard measure of lifeguard perfor-mance in Canada, NL education is designed to develop a sound understanding of lifeguarding principles, good judgment, and a mature and responsible attitude toward the role of the lifeguard

Prerequisites: Bronze Cross proof of certification, Stand-ard First Aid/CPR C proof of certification (current within the last 2 years) current award recommended. Must be the age 16 by the last day of class.

Date: July 14th - 16th , July 21th - 23th Time: 8:00am – 4:00pm Cost: $480.00 (Course includes fanny pack and manuals)

Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Course (WSI) The Water Safety Instructor Course focuses on plan-ning and teaching the Red Cross Swim continuum, instructional emergency response skills and instruc-tional techniques specific to our programs. The certifi-cate allows candidates to teach all the Red Cross Swim programs.

25 hours (plus 9 to 11 hours teaching experience)

Prerequisites Candidates must be 15 years or older and certifies as Red Cross Assistant Water Safety Instructors. Date: July 7,8 and 9th Tuesday thru Thursday Time: 8:00am to 5:00pm Cost: $288.75 Includes Manual Evaluation

All course components, including the teaching experience, are evaluated against specif-ic performance criteria on a pass/fail basis. The per-formance criteria are located I the Water Safety In-structor Manual.

Pool Operator Level 1 ( 14 to 16 hours)

This level is an introductory course. Students attend-ing the sessions will be exposed to information that will help them develop an understanding of Swimming Pool operations and Maintenance.

Payment options are a follows:

Option 1…….Payment in full for entire preschool term September 9th to June 20th at time of registration.

Option 2……50% at time of registration and the balance paid on February 1, 2014.

Option 3……25% at time of registration with three post dated cheques for the remainder made payable to the City of Revelstoke on the 1st of next three consecutive months.

NOTES: Government Subsidy is available for fami-lies that qualify. Forms are available at the Com-munity Centre prior to the beginning of the program.

For some, the preschool program fees are tax de-ductible. Keep your receipts for tax purposes. If you lose your receipts and you require us to do a “receipt search” there is a $15.00 administrative charge. 1313

About our Preschool! “Developing the whole child”

Our preschool combines structured activities along with child directed free play where (S.P.I.C.E.) Social, Physical, Intellectual, Creative and Emotional development of each child is emphasized. Our goal is to provide a safe and positive environment where each child is nurtured using devel-opmentally appropriate practices. Registration Procedure and Method of Payment

1. Registration is ongoing. To avoid disappointment please register early as space is limited.

2. Our Preschool operates from September to June. When you register you will be registering for the entire preschool term.

3. Registration is being accepted at the Revelstoke Community Centre located at 600 Campbell Av-enue.

4. Fees are $4.50 per hour for all preschool pro-grams. Payment can be made by cash, debit, cheque, Visa or Mastercard.

5. One of the below payment options MUST be made prior to the first day of classes.

Available Classes September 8th , 2015 – June 19th , 2016 *Preschool does not operate during Christmas Break, Spring Break or on Statutory Holidays.*

REVELSTOKE STREET FESTIVAL Summer 2015

Revelstoke Streetfest presented by Revelstoke Arts Council and the City of Revelstoke presents live

music every evening at the Grizzly Plaza.

A schedule of performers will be mailed out by the end of May.

Birds in our Backyard This course introduces the interested bird novice to the wonders to the bird life around us. Geared towards youth 10 years and older, this program is a perfect op-portunity for parent and child to learn about basic bird biology and observation techniques. There will be a brief Friday evening class followed by a Saturday morn-ing field trip on the Greenbelt. This will give you a chance to experience bird watching and study in the field before heading off to the market to start your weekend.

Date: June 12, 13, Friday and Sat-urday

Location: RCC and Greenbelt

Cost: Per youth and adult pair $25,

Instructor: Harry van Oort

(Harry has been passionate about bird watching since he was in Grade 5 and is now a local professional biologist living in Revelstoke)

Bats in our Night Join us for an evening of learning why bats are so spe-cial. This short program will cover the biology and conservation fo bats through games and discussion, then head down to the greenbelt at dusk to observe bats and use bat detectors to identify local species. The 3 hour evening will engage both families and in-terested adults. Date: August 12th, Wednesday Time: 7:00 pm—10:00pm Location: Revelstoke Community Centre then down to the Greenbelt Cost: $20 for parent and youth, $15 for individual adult Instructor: Mandy Kellner Bat biologist, Mandy has been studying bats for over 20 years and delights in helping everyone understand these wonderful and secretive animals.

If you like sharing your favourite ex-periences with friends, family and the greater YouTube community, then this course is for you. We’ll look at best practices, storyboarding, filming in the field as well as video editing and sharing the re-sults on social media. Hands-on participation will be key, so bring your creative juices, past filmmaking experiences (if any) and a desire to make eye-candy! *Participants will need to bring their own Go Pro cam-eras and laptops for editing.
