PRESIDENT’S REPORT
Council have decided to hold the Membership Fee at $126.50 through until the AGM where with an up to date balance sheet in front of them the matter can be debated with all the facts available. Any change to the fee recommended by the AGM and ratified by the Council would not come into force until 1st January 2014.
Registration fees as previously advised currently apply.
Branding remains a requirement however Council are working towards a uniform system to fit in with the requirements of other equestrian organisations. As strong debate rages on the merits of fire branding, freeze branding and micro chipping the status quo seems sensible meanwhile.
Regretfully I have to advise Members that in December Fanus Crous advised me that he was resigning from Council effective immediately.
The next big gathering for our Society is the National Show. The Taranaki Committee advise that everything is going extremely well and that they are looking forward to a milestone event with good sponsorship and fantastic venue and a promised high level of entries.
The Annual General Meeting will be in Auckland and Council will host a seminar on the Sunday with an International Guest as the main speaker. (Date to be confirmed at the next Council Meeting).

It was a great thrill to receive the news that Craig Royston O'Ryan had won the 90km ride in Dubai on the 1st
December in a time of 3 hours 13 minutes (29 KPH). He is Craig Royston Dimity's first colt sired by Waimeha Detonator. Sold as a weanling colt to Graham Sheffer
who educated him to ride and rode him until the Tylee’s bought him. He won the Junior 100km ride at the North Island Champs ridden by Emma Armstrong in the rain!
He did well in several middle distance rides before being exported to the Tofts in Queensland where he also went
well. Exported to Dubai some months ago this was his first success. We wish them well for the future. Barbara McGregor – Craig Royston Stud

The new classic film about the Arabian horse. Every breeder, owner, and rider should have it!
“This is a truly exciting history from the early to the modern evolution of the Arabian horse. Learn about the breed that has made more of an impact on modern breeds than any other.” ~ ARABIAN HORSE ASSOCIATION
“This film is the most informative, entertaining and fast paced documentary on horses that I have ever seen.”~ KRISTIN HARDIN, Hall of Fame Trainer, National Champion Trainer, Jumper
“A wonderful film! A fascinating and entertaining story whether you are a horse expert or novice.” ~ KAREN HOUSE, Pulitzer Prize Winner, former Publisher Wall Street Journal
“Brilliant! Galloping out of remotest antiquity, prancing majestically at mankind’s most fabled royal courts, in an awe-inspiring destiny siring all the lineages of racing’s thoroughbreds as well as the mounts for Napolean’s lancers and Gustavus Adolphus’ “Polish-Arabs”, the “Gift from the Desert” is the gorgeously enchanting star of this wondrous film.
“At this moment when tragic images bombard us nightly from the Middle East, one of our world’s most expert film-makers has launched a star into our sadly darkened sky. Gift from the Desert chronicles an all too rare interaction with the Arab world whereby 19/20th century U.S. breeders helped to “save” this splendid breed. For joy as well as useful wisdom - come and view this beautiful film !” ~ DR. CARNEY GAVIN, Historian
