Laborartory was the fi nal project in the bachelor degree study program. We were supposed to design a gallery of architecture and modern art. The site determined for Laborartory is located in Brno, Czech Republic, on an intersection of the streets Koliště and Milady Horákové. It is a very exposed site, espacially to traffi c: there is over 60 000 cars passing by every day. It is also a quite important part of the city, Koliště was originnaly an empty space under the town fortifi cations, that were demolished in late 19th century and replaced by a large promenade with parks and signifi cant buildings such as theatres and museums. The conception was inspired by Ringstrasse in Vienna, but nowadays it has lost a lot of its 19th century charm and it serves as one of the most important traffi c corridors in Brno. The site also has a very nice connection to the city’s most important parc Lužánky through the boulevard of Kapitán Jaroš. This boulevard, a strong reminder of the urban planning and architecture as it was made in Brno in 19th century with its lime tree alley and neo-renaissance buildings, is a dead-end street today, ending with a couple of dustbins and serving mainly as a parking lot. The main idea of the desing was to reinstall the

connection between the city center and the city parc by creating a large platform, issuing from the large open space in front of the Janáčkovo theatre, bridging Koliště and descending in form of a spiral ramp to the basement, where it leads to the underpass under Milada Horáková street to the boulevard of Kapitán Jaroš. The building itself is situated at the eastern corner of the site and it is conceived as a closed volume with copper facade, with universal exhibition space inside. The main entrance is in the open basement, which also allows a slight isolation for visitors from the surrounding traffi c. There are 6 fl oors of exhibition space, the superior fl oor is reserved for administrative, parking (only for employees) is situated in the underground with the acces from the underpass. The gallery is not only the closed building, but it opens itself to the platform, allowing the people to cross it freely as they pass from the city to the parc using the ramp. The platform provides the space for exterior installations and pavillions that should be an important part of the exhibitions of architecture, so that people can not only see it in some closed vitrine, but that they could also touch it, use it, live it, as it should be with architecture in our lives everyday.

BARRACKS FOR LIFEschool work / FA VUT

PRODUCED BY AN AUTODESK EDUCATIONAL PRODUCT The area of former barracks in Brno - Černá Pole, that nowadays serves for University of Defense, is a very important site in Brno. It is a very well placed brownfi eld that offers a large potential of developpement to its neighbour-hood, by that to all the city. Černá Pole (Black Fields) is a residential quarter, build in the fi rst half of the 20th century. It contains a large num-ber of signifi cant residential and other build-ings, includnig the famous vila Tugendhat by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe (on the UNESCO list) or Café ERA by Josef Kranz. The military area in Černá Pole dates back to 1926, and since that time it was closed to public. The area occupies about 12 ha, and formes a quite large obstacle to the district developpement. The design was preceded by urban analy-sis of the city and the district, and the assign-ment was to build a residential quarter with a new city hall for Brno-North and other func-tions relied to housing, such as free time activi-ties, kindergarden or sports center. In my design, I tried to follow-up the existing neighbourhood and forme a similar structure, but with a higher density of popula-tion. The area is built with fi ve- and four-storey blocks of fl ats, with a semi-private yards. In the southern part, next to Provazníkova street, which is one of arterial roads of the district, is a large boulevard for pedestrians, that concen-trates public facilities (retirement home, shops, restaurants) with housing function in upper fl oors. The boulevard is bordered by a univer-sity building on the west side, belonging to the Mendel university that resides next to the site, and on the east side by the new city hall.

35 apartments is a project placed in a

di! cult area: next to the train station, opposite to

a growing city district, and with a strong emphasis

on urban impact of the design. The site is located

in Montpellier, France, in the neighbourhood

of family houses and " ve-store # athouses, with

existing vegetation that was determined to be

preserved.

Due to its environment, the building is

divided into four coexisting volumes in upper

# oors providing space for large terraces between

them. The " rst # oor has a commercial character,

emphasized by enlargement of the pavement by

creating an arcade. The entrances for residents are

between the buildings, leading to the courtyard.

The acces to appartments is by the courtyard

balconies, and there are just two staircases and

elevators to serve all four blocks. This soulution

was enabled by the mediterranean climate in

Montpellier where is no snow or frost in the

winter. On the other side, there was the necessity

to solve summer problems with overheating.

Every appartment is ventilated at least from

two oppostite facades, and the windows are

shadowed by “screens”: semi-transparent window

blinds placed on the exterior side of the windows.

The construction is made of concrete, with glass

wool insulation and exterior facade made of

bricks.

STUDIO DE DANSEschool work / ENSA Montpellier

supervisor: Jean-Luc Lauriol, Frédéric Saint-Cricq 2011

PLAN

MASTERPLAN

Dance studio in Montpellier was designed as a

school project in collaboration with a choreographer as

a training studio with ideal work conditions of dancers.

The emphasis was put on thermics, acoustics and

lighting - it had to be the most passive possible in terms

of heating and cooling, the dance # oor (13 x 13 metres

minimum) should not receive any direct sunlight while

the whole area should have enough natural light for

work and of course the acoustics should provide enough

comfort to dancers and also to occasional spectators.

Our work consisted a lot in working with models, as it

can be seen on the pictures below.

The area of baroque chateau Dolní Moštěnice is situated in peaceful surroundings of southern Moravia and its vineyards, so the reconstruction of the chateau to a retirement house is one of the possible solutions for this nowadays damaged building. Old buildings (chateau, stables and granary) are colored in grey on the master plan, and there is one new building (the red one). The old chateau should serve as common area, with kitchen, dining room, library and a day room, the stables would provide space for administrative and medical offi ces. The accomodation part of the complex is designed as a new building, with three fl oors, providing the capacity of 60 beds in 60 single rooms. Each room is equiped with a bathroom and

a toilet. There are two common rooms on each fl oor, with a small kitchen, and a staff room for on each fl oor. The old granary is also preserved, but only as an exterior shell. Inside, there is an assembly room with 84 seats and open gallery in the fi rst fl oor. The other half is conceived as a small gym in the ground fl oor, and there is also an upper fl oor that could serve as a storeroom or a clubroom. Part of the design is the restoration af an ancient parc that originally surrounded the chateau. The parc includes water basin, orchard and a small amphitheatre that could be used as an open-air cinema not only for the residents, but also for people living in neighbour villages.

CUT

MASTERPLAN

Astana, as a capital of Kazakhstan, is a very dynamic city - in the past two decades the population signifi cantly increased: from 250 000 habitants in 1990 to 750 000 habitants in 2010. The city is experiencing massive construction activity: there is a whole new administrative center including new presidential palace, several new housing complexes and commercial centre. The climate in Astana is continental, that means there is about +30° degrees in the summer and -30° degrees in the winter. The surroundings of the city is a steppe, and the lanscape is completely fl at in this area. Contemporary housing in Astana is represented mostly by fl athouses that have usually about 10 or 12 fl oors, and they are surrounded by open public spaces (parcs). Our task was to introduce european model of contemporary collective housing, which consists of smaller districts with 3 to 5 fl oor fl athouses and terraced houses, such as in Vienna. The location has about 17,85 ha, that permitted to considered it as a part of the city, including public facilities, cultural centre and public spaces. According to the general plan, next to our lot is planned an arterial road of the city. In my design, I tried do modify its character and to not consider it as a highway, but as a city avenue, with trees, large pavements, parking spots and a bus stop. The center of the area is formed by a large public space, divided into two parts - main square and a parc, they are separated by an open public pavilion. Most of the surface is occupied by housing with a posibility of including some facilities (public or not) in their ground fl oor. In the western part of the area, houses are in closed blocs, in the eastern part, which has its own little square and a parc, the blocs are open. Parking is mostly in the ground fl oor of the buildings, somewhere there are parking buildings for the block. The roof of these buildings is usable for example as a tennis court or other sport acitivties. Concerning the public facilities, the is one secondary school that remains as it is now, I added a kindergarden, elementary school and a sports centre. In the whole area there should be about 1667 fl at units and 4000 habitants, that makes 224 habitants/hectar.

The “fi nger exercice” was our fi rts studio task this year, a week long sort of workshop to start. The site is in Brno - Lesná, which is one of the most importatnt suburb district of the city build in the 1960’ in the spirit of func-tionslism and scandinavian concept of building in green, between existing vegetation. Our task was to design a public facility that this district lacks: it could have been a café, cultural centre, sport centre or other. The terrain was in a slope, so I decided to take advantage of it and create a building that is partly hidden in the ground and with acces-

sible roof terrace. One part of the build-ing should serve as a café and cultural centre, the other part as a gym and a clubroom. Central part, formed by a hall illuminated from the upper part, should be a walk-through corridor for everyone, since I decided to place the construction on one of the existing pavements in the area. The exterior look of the building should match with its surroundings, that is why I worked with rectangular shapes only with the exception on the diagonal wall on the eastern facade which is or-thogonal to the countour lines.

THE CUBEschool work

supervisor: doc. Ing. arch. Dagmar Glosová, CSc.Ing. arch. Jan Foretník

2011

The cube was our fi rst task in architecture studio at school. The concept was to design an ide-al home for one person (ourselves) within a cube with dimensions 6x6x6 metres. Mine is divided to three fl oors: the ground fl oor contains living room, kitchen and bathroom, the second fl oor is a private room and the third fl oor is a bedroom. The facades, including the roof, are always the same module, but mutually turned so they form open or closed corners. The entrance, the opposite wall to the entrance and the bathroom (the only closed room in the cube) are highlighted with red colour.

FURNITURE DESIGN - CHAIRinterior design - school work

supervisor: Ing. arch. Jiří Marek2011

This chair was designed to be made of garbage material - 6mm thick cardboard, which in the end was quite hard to fi nd, so this prototype is made out of new plates of cardboard. The material is fully declared and emphasized by using rests of fruit boxes from the supermarket. The chair is made of 74 identic sections that are glued together, for easier manipulation there are two box-like holes on the sides of the chair.

FLEURFAUTEUILworkshop/ENSA Montpellier

supervisor: Vinicius Raducanu2012

Fleurfauteuil is a prototype, it issued from a worskhop where we had to design an interior equipment using paper and folding techniques. The design of this hanging chair was inspired by fl owers (“fl eur”). The paper shell around the seat slightly closes over your head when you sit on the chair, it also forms a sun protection. The construction is quite simple: there is a plywood circle under the seat that is attachet to the strings. Thanks to its nature the chair can be easily folded.

PASSERELLEworkshop/ENSA Montpellier

supervisor: Vinicius Raducanu2012

The workshop went on in two phases: fi rst, we created 10 different propositions for a pedestrian bridge (passerelle) that should bridge 10 metres, be made of paper and be dismountable so that we can transport it for exhibition. The task as really diffi cult, we chose a design made of 3 modules, repeating and crating a closed passage for one person. The second phase was to build the design: we were provided with the material, 6 cm thick cardboard plates, 8 mm cardboard and kraft paper. The conception was very diffi cult, we had only fi ve days to make it, but fi nally we suceeded even though we had to use polypropylene straps in the lower part to make it work.

http://youtu.be/vA0ZcqXD2CA

COMPASSpratiques plastiques/ENSA Montpellier

supervisor: Marion Devillers2011

The assignement was to create a sculpture or an installation about cartography. The theme was quite wide, we focused to work on orientation and desorientation in space. We chose a circle as an infi nite geometrical shape that gives you no coordinates, no orientations when you enter without knowing the center, which is almost impossible to fi nd or trace. The circle with diametre measuring 1,5 metres was made of three different sizes of origami modules indicating North, South, East and West: biggest modules were in the South, letting through maximum of light, on the opposite side were situated the smallest modules in three layers, leaking minimum of light and by that indicating the North. The object was intended to be hanged so that you can enter inside from the bottom.
