inaccessibili dell’inconscio.
Simoncini is able to combine an investigation of reality with the introverted and metaphysical dream, and
the tenderness of memory, though these ideas are hidden behind playful and ironic signs. Each of his works
are indeed tinged with irony, more or less pronounced, which accompany the production of his surrealist art.
His works portray reality, though his brush is often tinged by poetic nuance. Dry, apparently disillusioned,
and very sensitive, he draws a constant veil of intimacy, which remains his main fi gure, giving new life
through memory to environments in which reality is to appear much more raw.
It is as if the artist arranges and tries to tell a story with a happy ending, which the intimate matrix goes
well with the surreal, making all possible beyond and above reality. This comprehensive retrospective leaves
much to rise, by the will of the artist, in this interesting strand of his inexhaustible smiling creativity
and testifi es to the great passion he has for his work. This passion led him to make large amounts of
paintings, each drawing inspiration from history and from the innermost depths of the unconscious.
collegare personaggi mitologici in ambienti contemporanei:
Pittore
molto pratico, diretto e sempre attento all’equilibrio tra
“Ariadne’s Thread”, a new exhibition by local Florentine
artist Andrea Simoncini will open Wednesday October, 14
2015, at 6p.m. at the Ganzo gallery restaurant.
The exhibition will remain open until November 10, 2015.
Andrea Simoncini links the past and present through
his works by painting mythological characters in
contemporary settings. He references these myths and
past events and connects them to current issues. With a
vast understanding of art history, Simoncini developed
his own approach to the way in which he interprets myth.
His work often looks toward the metaphysical as he
mixes his personal understanding of these ancient stories
with the reality of the world today. This exhibit follows
Simoncini through his years as a painter and offers us a
small anthology of his works.
Although he began his career in fashion export, Simoncini
has always had a passion for art. During the ‘70s, he
worked closely with surrealist painter Mario D’Elia, who
furthered his interests in abstract art.
As his enthusiasm grew, Andrea began creating solo
works in the late ‘70s. His work in the fashion business
allowed him to travel to places, such as the U.S., Japan,
and London. These travels have furthered his interest
in the many different histories and cultures around the
world. His travels, as well as his deep interest in classical
and mythological literature, continue to drive and inspire
Simoncini throughout his painting years.
