LIGHTBOX / BLWCH GOLAU: Cornelia BaltesUntil / Tan 07.10.18Cornelia Baltes’ brightly coloured paintings combine simplicity with humour and playfulness. Real-world observations are stripped back to their simplest form; creating new abstract patterns and rhythms. Their bold graphic qualities often spilling out, over the surface and on to the walls and surrounding architecture in which they inhabit. For Chapter, Baltes has created a new site specific work—two giant cartoon hands emerge from either side of the building, reaching to clasp each other in a handshake. This ‘body’ of work will also extend to our caffi bar when Cornelia Baltes installs a new exhibition for our Art in the Bar programme.BIOGRAPHYCornelia Baltes (b. 1978, Mönchengladbach, DE) gained her MFA at the Slade School of Fine Art, London in 2011. She is based in London and Berlin.
Mae paentiadau lliwgar Cornelia Baltes yn cyfuno symlrwydd â hiwmor ac elfennau chwareus. Mae sylwadau ar y byd go iawn yn cael eu lleihau i’w ffurfiau symlaf ac mae hynny’n creu patrymau a rhythmau haniaethol newydd; mae eu nodweddion graffigol hy yn aml yn gorlifo dros yr wyneb ac ymlaen dros y waliau a’r bensaernïaeth amgylchynol. Ar ran Chapter, aeth Baltes ati i greu gwaith newydd safle-benodol — dwy law fawr, mewn arddull cartŵn, sydd yn estyn allan o ymylon yr adeilad fel petai i ysgwyd dwylo. Bydd y ‘corff’ hwn o waith hefyd yn estyn i mewn i’n caffi bar pan fydd Baltes yn creu arddangosfa newydd safle-benodol yn rhan o raglen Celfyddyd yn y Bar.BYWGRAFFIADEnillodd Cornelia Baltes (g. 1978, Mönchengladbach, Yr Almaen) ei MFA o Ysgol Celfyddyd Gain y Slade, Llundain, yn 2011. Mae hi’n byw ac yn gweithio yn Llundain a Berlin.

Fiona Grady creates site-responsive drawings on walls, windows and floors using sequences of dispersing geometric shapes. Her practice recognizes the relationship between architecture, installation art and decoration; through the exploration of light, surface and scale. For her exhibition, Grady has created a series of artworks on the caffi bar windows. The site-specific ‘drawings’ are composed from colourful transparent vinyl shapes. The time-based artworks brighten and glow with the changing light of day to cast colour into the room and onto the adjacent surfaces.BIOGRAPHYFiona Grady (b. 1984, Leeds, UK) studied BA Fine Art at the University of Wales In Cardiff (UWIC) 2004-2007 and MA Fine Art at Wimbledon School of Art (UAL) 2010- 2011. She lives and works in London. www.fionagrady.co.uk
Mae Fiona Grady yn creu lluniau safle-benodol ar waliau, ffenestri a lloriau gyda chymorth cyfresi o siapiau geometrig gwasgaredig. Mae ei gwaith yn cydnabod y berthynas rhwng pensaernïaeth, gosodwaith ac addurn, trwy archwilio golau, arwyneb a graddfa. Ar gyfer yr arddangosfa hon, aeth Grady ati i greu cyfres o weithiau ar ffenestri’r caffi bar. Mae’r ‘darluniau’ safle-benodol hyn wedi eu ffurfio o siapiau finyl lliwgar tryloyw. Mae’r gweithiau’n ddibynnol ar amser — maent yn disgleirio ac yn gloywi yn y golau newidiol ac yn taflu golau ar hyd yr ystafell a thros arwynebau cyfochrog. BYWGRAFFIADAstudiodd Fiona Grady (g. 1984, Leeds, y DG) am radd BA mewn Celfyddyd Gain ym Mhrifysgol Cymru Caerdydd (UWIC) rhwng 2004 a 2007 ac am radd MA mewn Celfyddyd Gain yn Ysgol Gelf Wimbledon (UAL) rhwng 2010 a 2011. Every Song I’ve Ever Written — Solo08.06 4pm—9pmEvery Song I’ve Ever Written is a project about memory, history, things that may or may not exist, song-writing, the internet and pop culture. From 1985 to 2004, PME-ART co-artistic director Jacob Wren wrote songs. Lots and lots of songs. At the time hardly anyone heard them and, in some sense, these songs don’t yet exist. Every Song I’ve Ever Written hopes to raise questions about what songs mean on the internet, and about what song-writing is actually like today.Durational, audience can come and go throughout the performance, the bar will be open. Last entry 8.30pm
Mae Every Song I’ve Ever Written yn brosiect am gof, hanes a phethau a allai fodoli — neu beidio. Y mae hefyd yn ystyried cyfansoddi caneuon, y rhyngrwyd a diwylliant pop.Rhwng 1985 a 2004, ysgrifennodd cyd-gyfarwyddwr artistig PME-ART, Jacob Wren, ganeuon. Llawer iawn o ganeuon. Ar y pryd, prin oedd y bobl a’u clywodd ac, mewn ffordd o siarad, nid yw’r caneuon hyn yn bodoli eto. Mae Every Song I’ve Ever Written yn codi cwestiynau am ystyr caneuon ar y rhyngrwyd, a natur cyfansoddi caneuon heddiw.Gall gwylwyr fynd a dod fel y dymunant yn ystod y perfformiad, bydd y bar ar agor. Mynediad olaf 8.30pmFREE / AM DDIM
A FESTIVAL OF VOICE AND CHAPTER COMMISSION / COMISIWN GAN ŴYL Y LLAIS A CHAPTER
Damp Sweats the House10.06 8pmTim Bromage presents a new performance about living spaces, their occupants and the collective history stored within. Informed by ongoing research into folklore, storytelling and alchemy, various threads are woven into a strange and fractured narrative.Tim’s practice draws upon many areas of interest including stage magic and folk traditions. Props and costume are combined with song and text creating rituals that often reference cultural myths and history.
Mae Tim Bromage yn cyflwyno perfformiad newydd am ofod byw, ac am breswylwyr a hanes cyfun y gofod hwnnw. Dan ddylanwad ei ymchwil barhaus i lên gwerin, straeon ac alcemi, caiff amrywiol edefynnau eu plethu ynghyd i greu naratif rhyfedd a darniedig.Mae gwaith Tim yn tynnu ar nifer o feysydd gan gynnwys hud a lledrith y llwyfan a thraddodiadau gwerin. Caiff propiau a gwisgoedd eu cyfuno â chân a thestun er mwyn creu defodau sydd yn aml yn cyfeirio at fythau a hanes diwylliannol.£12

MOUTHPIECE 14.06 8pmMOUTHPIECE is a heart-wrenching and humorous journey into the female psyche. The performance is a virtuosic display of physical ingenuity and vocal orchestration. In the wake of her mother’s death, MOUTHPIECE follows one woman, for one day, as she tries to find her voice. Interweaving a cappella harmony, dissonance, text, and physicality, two performers express the inner conflict that exists within one modern woman’s head.
Mae MOUTHPIECE yn siwrne ddifyr a chyffrous i galon y seice benywaidd. Mae’r perfformiad yn arddangosfa ryfeddol o ddyfeisgarwch corfforol a lleisiol.Mae MOUTHPIECE yn adrodd hanes un fenyw, wedi iddi golli ei mam, yn ystod un diwrnod, wrth iddi geisio dod o hyd i’w llais. Yn gydblethiad o harmoni a cappella, anghytgord, testun a chorfforoldeb, mae dau berfformiwr yn mynegi’r gwrthdaro mewnol ym mhen un fenyw fodern.£14

Every Song I’ve Ever Written — Band Night / Noson y Bandiau09.06 7.30pmFollowing Jacob’s solo night, this performance will see five Cardiff bands perform one of Jacob’s songs each. After each version, Jacob will interview the band about what it was like to cover the song, and the band can also interview Jacob about what it was like to write it. Keep an eye on the website for details of the Welsh bands and musicians involved.
Yn dilyn noson unigol Jacob, bydd pum band o Gaerdydd yn perfformio un gân yr un gan Jacob. Ar ôl pob fersiwn, bydd Jacob yn cyfweld â’r band ac yn gofyn iddynt am y profiad o chwarae’r fersiwn honno. Ac fe all y band holi Jacob am y profiad o gyfansoddi’r gân arbennig honno. Cadwch lygad ar y wefan i weld manylion y bandiau a’r cerddorion Cymreig a fydd yn cymryd rhan.£14

Jordan Brookes: Body of Work02.06 8pmIn August 2015 Jordan’s Nanna, Gwendoline Martha Brookes, passed away. She was 95. This show is a genuine attempt to pay tribute to her. That can’t be the whole thing, can it? I thought Jordan Brookes did absurdist stuff? Like, bits that go on for ages and horrible physical stuff, daft faces, etc.? Is he just going to talk about his Nan for an hour? Surely not.Age 16+2017 Lastminute.com Edinburgh Comedy Award Best Show nominee

Finery + Charlie Francis and Cotton Wolf15.06 9pm Finery is the dark, industrial electronica of Cardiff natives Charlie Francis and Jemma Roper. Combining Francis’ skills as a producer (R.E.M., High Llamas, Creation Records) with Roper’s lyrical prowess and unique vocal, Finery conjures images of unsettling dystopian futures behind a benign-looking present.Charlie Francis will also perform tracks from his ‘Songs for Singers’ project.Cotton Wolf brings together the Welsh ‘Super Producer’ Llion Robertson and classically-trained composer Seb Goldfinch. The duo create epic soundscapes with minimalist vocals, electronic backdrops and a deft, warming approach to production.

This is an opportunity for you to talk about your wide spectrum, and the work you’re doing (or would like to do) in the world of sex education that we encounter every day in our families, onscreen, in the House of Commons, in schools. We want to listen to you to figure out what we can do together.
