• 72 participants (9th-12th)
• performed in 5 classrooms
• questioning of pre-existing knowledge on storm
drains

Objectives
• To place markers on these storm drains to draw attention
to their presence and PREVENT littering
• To educate high school students and denizens of the
surrounding neighborhoods about the importance of
maintenance and upkeep of storm drains.

Sources of Pollution
• Domestic: leaves, plastics, aluminum cans, cardboard,
fertilizers.
• Industrial: Surfactants, chemicals, detergents, oils and
grease etc.

Recommendations
•Signs near the bridge by Patrick’s School to prevent
vandalizing of the bridge.
•The area by 5th and Bond street turned into a rain garden
•Residents/ Businesses by Trumbull and bond made aware
of the new zoning and the bid to build a new drainage
system.
•Area opposite Park cleaned up and made into a small patch
of green.
•Trash cans .
•Auto shops penalized for dumping their waste by the drains.
