2. When was the group established?
In the year 1975 on 12th January on Swami Vivekananda Birth Day & registered itself in the year 1985
3. Briefly describe the motivation for starting this group.
In the year 1975 Mr. Somnath Singha Roy (Present Hony. General Secretary) united a group of educated
youth for forming and thinking for the basic education of deprived children at Hooghly district of West
Bengal. In the year 199293 he shifted to his maternal Uncle’s home at Baghmundi and started working
with the deprived tribal children in a rightbased mode through local fund collection and gradually with the
support from CRY. Afterwards other likeminded organization has extended their support for fulfilling the
minimum requirement of the children and their family. Gradually the organization has diversified its
activities to different sectors including education.
4. Briefly describe the aims of your group.
"A Society without poverty and injustice in which every person enjoys their right to live with dignity."
The Organization believes that rural development can be possible through concentrating on people andplace where the development activities will be done. MLC also believes and intends to promotedevelopment through a collective effort and sustainable process and which can be achieved from man tomankind. And this development is possible if it started from grass root (children of the society).

they doing currently? Please tell us about their future education and employment possibilities.
The Project is running for last 5 years. During last 2 years 217 nos. students are linked to
mainstream of education. We are doing a regular follow up and found except a few
migrations all of them are continuing their education.

19. Do you help your students with their future education efforts after they have passed out of
your school?
We do make a linkage with formal educational institutions. We do visit their families for
follow up and link their families with government schemes. During our follow up visit we
found that the parents of the children facing problems on Tuition fees, Dress and learning
materials for which some children showing irregularities in attending classes.
20. Are there any other schools (Kindergarten/Balwadi, Elementary school, High school) in
the area? If so, please list the schools and the range of classes each of them offers.

21. Is your program different from that provided at these schools? Please explain.
Yes it is different. Teaching is done through local language in 1st & 2nd year and gradually in
the 3rd year link with Regional (Bengali) language, the state language of formal schools. We
do not use books. We start education with locally prepared materials from their nature and
traditional use.
22. Why are the children in your school/s not attending government/other schools in the local
area?
• Language problem,
• Distance,
• School Timing due to late attendance of teachers.
• Teachers from outside the ajodhaya hill.
• OVERALL THE SCHOOL IS NOT CHILD FRIENDLY.

23. Do you try to involve the parents of the children in the running of the school (e.g. in
setting the syllabus etc.)? Please specify.
We do conduct guardians' meeting on school timing, students' regularity, health and hygiene,
school place during rainy season etc. we have a school committee at every hamlet to look after
and monitor the education related issues.
24. What are your expansion plans for the future (e.g. adding more classes or schools)?
Increasing Nos. of schools, build rooms for schools partly with support from community,
setting a static library with in communities reach.
25. Do you have any suggestions on how Asha can be a positive influence in changing the
education scenario in India?
By supporting the common school system as suggested by Kothari Commission in the year
1966
