It looks as if 2015 promises to be an exciting year for cigar aficionados in Asia with a number of new editions or limited releases, the opportunity to dis-cover boutique brand makers, and a few exciting shop openings.

In the heart of Kuala Lumpur, the newly opened Davidoff Pavilion is an oasis of quiet and relaxation. Macau. Also in Macau, the Davidoff Galaxy Phase 2 is scheduled for opening late May 2015. The con-temporary design of the Kuala Lumpur flagship store has been applied to both these stores, where fine timbers and natural materials in earthy tones create a contemporary, warm environment imbued with copper hues and a refined atmosphere.

In Hong Kong, The Pacific Cigar Co. has opened a most impressive outlet named The Har-bour Cigar Divan: situated in a 1926 Heritage Build-ing with three floors totalling 1,200sq.ft The con-cept of this superbly renovated and furnished store is to recreate a view of the old Hong Kong har-bour, seen from a ship. On the ground floor, the shop carries Habanos brands, Siglo, Elie Bleu, and Linley accessories. The other levels feature a beau-tiful lounge and a walk-in humidor with over 70 lockers available for rent.

Should you be fortunate enough to visit this place dedicated to enjoying a good smoke, you might be able to sample the Diplomaticos Bushido. This Asia Pacific regional edition (2014) was created to celebrate the 400th Anniversary of the arrival of the first Japanese to Cuba: Hasekura Tsunenaga was the Samurai envoy to the Vatican and made the voyage on the first Galleon-type ship constructed in Japan.

Also recently made available are the Ha-banos “Añejados” (Aged), presented for the first time with two launchings: Romeo y Julieta Pirámides Añejados and Montecristo Churchills Añejados. Both of them are new formats in these brands; already rolled, they are aged in Cuba for five years or more, in perfect condi-tions of preservation, which has enabled them to gain shades and complexity without losing their initial organoleptic characteristics. They are both presented in a box of 25 sticks, in lim-ited quantities.

Davidoff also has a number of new prod-ucts, which have just arrived or will soon reach the markets.

A complete makeover of the makeover, Winston Churchill by Davidoff is now a new line under the Davidoff brand. Inspired by the multi-faceted personality of Sir Winston, the re-launch introduces a new complex multi-origin blend and new outstanding packaging design with gorgeous white etuis and wooden boxes. Named Commander, Traveller, States-man, Aristocrat, Artist, and Raconteur, the range seeks to embody an individual who was the personification of the Davidoff motto “time beautifully filled”.

Under the same concept, the Davidoff Hong Kong Limited Edition features a second ring with a bauhinia flower and a blend specially created for Hong Kong cigar aficionados, all in a gorgeous box featuring Hong Kong’s iconic skyline. This limited edition box of 10 sticks will be found ex-clusively in Davidoff Hong Kong stores and Hong Kong travel retail outlets.

Moving away from these traditional yet active players… this year will see the arrival of a brand maker not previously available in Asia Pacific: aficionados in the know will no longer need to bring back their favourite Flor de Selva, Cumpay, and Villa Zamorano from the European capitals… they should be available this year in the best cigar stores in the region.

Maya Selva Cigars is celebrating its 20th an-niversary, with celebrations starting in March at their Santa Eulalia farm in the Jamastrán Valley in Honduras, where all guests will be able to crop a tobacco leaf. It will be followed by a large event in Paris in June and closed with the launch of a Spe-cial Edition at the IPCPR 2015 in New Orleans.

Maya Selva Cigars has three leading brands. Flor de Selva is a rich, medium-bodied yet elegant luxury, and is now launching beautiful novelties: Flor de Selva Egoísta, Flor de Selva No 15 Madu-ro, and Flor de Selva Tempo Maduro.

The Roberto Duran brand combines the best quality tobacco fillers from Nicaragua and the Latin American region with their super-premium Habana Criollo Colorado wrapper, produced in their plantation in Ecuador. The blend has been carefully balanced by the team of tobacco experts at their factory in Esteli, resulting in a very en-joyable medium to strong and progressive flavor experience. Azan, a brand originally created in Cuba by Chinese immigrants, is now produced in Nicara-gua. Azan White is the premium line; the long filler is a combination of especially selected leafs from Jalapa and Estelí in Nicaragua and from Matafina in Brazil. The wrapper is a very fine Ecuadorian Corojo Grande 5 and 6, which contributes to a distinctive sweet flavored cigar.

The Neya brand is available in five vitolas; the filler and binder are both Nicaraguan while the wrapper is a Habano Ecuador.

And finally, in the limited editions category, will you be one of the lucky few to grab the highly exclusive Padrón 50th Anniversary Humidor? Avail-able from Cigar Ben in Hong Kong and The Wall of Cigar in Macau, these humidors are individually numbered and contain 50 numbered cigars.
