Once you’ve completed our programmes you may also be

eligible for apprenticeships in fabrication and light welding.

overseas – and you’ll be on track to earn an above-

average salary.

Anyone can do itEntry to the programme is easy - you just need basic

reading, writing and maths skills, good eyesight and

physical mobility, and be committed to seeing results.

Our programmes are 70% hands-on, so you develop

the skills you’ll need in your career. You’ll start with

the basics then move to a more advanced level of

welding technique.

You’ll also learn all the other skills you need, like health

and safety, drawing interpretation, workshop and

communication skills.

Certificate in Advanced Welding (Level 4)

Once you’ve completed the Certificate in Welding and Fabrication (Level 3) programme, you can enrol in our NZQA registered Certificate in Advanced Welding (Level 4) programme. You may also be eligible if you already have experience to the required level.

This course runs for only 14 weeks and is very hands-on. You’ll review the techniques learned during the Level 3 programme, then spend a lot of time in the workshop.

You will hit the ground running!

After a quick review of techniques learned during the

previous course you’ll be able to spend a lot more

time in the workshop.

NZQA unit standards and welding tickets

The unit standards covered in this programme will

give you an extra 77 credits from the New Zealand

Qualification Framework. This will set you well on the

way towards a Trade Certificate qualification.

Once you complete the programme, you get the

chance to sit one or more industry-recognised welding

tickets. This isn’t open to everyone – it’s at the

discretion of the head welding tutor.

Trade Assistant

Train for FREE – Youth Guarantee Programmes (Level 2 & 3)

If you’re between 16 and 19 years old you can train

for free with one of our Youth Guarantee programmes.

This is available on Level 2 programmes and some

spaces are available for our Level 3 programme also.

The Youth Guarantee Engineering and Welding

programmes help young people gain the personal,

educational and practical skills they need to kick start

a career in the engineering and welding trades.

MIG Welding You’ll learn to weld metal thicknesses ranging

from 2.00mm to 12.0mm. Certificate in

Advanced Welding (Level 4) students also

learn a range of positional welding techniques.

TIG WeldingYou’ll have the opportunity to weld carbon

steel, stainless steel and aluminum materials

ranging from 1.6mm to 6.0mm in thickness.

These techniques are taught in both the Level

3 and Level 4 programmes. These skills will be

further refined in the Level 4 programme.

MMA WeldingYou’ll learn to weld carbon steel thicknesses

ranging from 5.0mm to 12.0mm, using both

utile and low hydrogen compositions. The

students also learn a range of positional

welding techniques.

Thermal CuttingYou’ll use oxy-fuel cutters to prepare exercise

plates, as well as doing plasma, air arc and

oxy-fuel gouging. You’ll also be trained to use

a uni-directional creeper cutter.
