Yoga Away The Pain
A new study, published in Annals of Internal
Medicine, found that yoga can help with back
problems. The new research put yoga head-to-
head against physical therapy and found the two
were equally good at restoring function and
reducing the need for pain medication over time.
This research is unique because the people in the
study were racially diverse, and most were from
low-income families.

If your taste buds lean toward spicy, you might be doing
your heart a favor, new research suggests.
Spicy foods may increase salt sensitivity, thereby
dampening the desire to consume
heart-harming salty food,
researchers in China say.
"High salt intake increases blood
pressure and contributes to
cardiovascular disease," said
study author Dr. Zhiming Zhu.
"Thus, reducing salt intake is
very important for health.
"We find that the enjoyment of spicy foods significantly
reduced individual salt preference, daily salt intake and
blood pressure," he added. Zhu is director of Daping
Hospital's Center for Hypertension and Metabolic
Diseases at Third Military Medical University in
Chongqing.
sión sanguínea y contribuye a enferme-
dades cardiovasculares””Dr. Zhiming
Zhu.
Want to Avoid Salt?
Turn Up the Spice
If you smoke, stop. Cigarettes damage the arteries and
speed the buildup of cholesterol and plaque, the first
step toward a heart attack. In the Nurses' Health Study,
just one to 14 cigarettes per day tripled the risk of heart
trouble. If you're a smoker, quitting RIGHT NOW is
the best thing you can do for your
heart. Within two years, the threat of
the heart attack will drop to the level
of a person who has never smoked.
Besides well known risks of lung
cancer, stroke, and heart attacks,
smoking is now linked to increased
risks for infection, kidney disease,
intestinal diseases, and more. The additional diseases
are believed to add 60,000 deaths from tobacco per
year in the U.S.
derrame cerebral, infartos, fumar
UU.
5 Razones Por Las Que
Siempre Tienes hambre
5 Reasons you’re
Hungry all the time
1. You’re not eating enough protein
Protein has hunger-reducing properties that help you
consume fewer calories during the day.
2. You’re not sleeping enough
Sleep deprivation is known to
cause fluctuations in your hunger
hormone levels.
3. You’re eating too many
refined carbs
Since refined carbs lack filling
fiber, your body digests them very
quickly.
4. Your diet is low in fat
Fat plays a role in slowing
digestion and increasing the
production of fullness-promoting
hormones.
5. You’re not drinking enough water
Feelings of thirst can be mistaken for feelings of
hunger.
1. No come suficiente proteína
5. No estás bebiendo suficiente agua
Sugary Drinks Could
Break your heart
favor a tu corazón.
autor principal Faadiel Essop,
profesor de la Universidad de
Stellenbosch en Sudáfrica.
"Quienes consumen bebidas
azucaradas no se sienten tan
llenos como aquellos que
comieron alimentos sólidos, a
If you're a fan of sodas, fruit juices and sugary sports drinks,
you're probably not doing your heart any favors.
A new review suggests that regularly quenching your thirst
with sugar-sweetened beverages not only contributes to your
risk of gaining weight, it also ups your chances of
developing type 2 diabetes and metabolic syndrome, a
cluster of conditions that raises your risk of heart disease.
"Some studies found that consuming as few as two servings
of sugar-sweetened beverages a week was linked to [an
increased risk of metabolic syndrome, diabetes and heart
disease and stroke],"
said study senior author
Faadiel Essop, a
professor at Stellenbosch
University in South
Africa.
"Those consuming
sugary drinks do not feel
as full as those who ate
solid foods, even though
they had the same
amount of calories,"
Essop noted, and that
lack of satiety may then
cause people to eat or drink more.
Dr. William Cefalu, chief scientific, medical and mission
officer from the American Diabetes Association, said,
"What we can be sure of, however, is that sugar-sweetened
beverages provide a substantial amount of excess calories
with no nutritional benefit, and excess calories beyond what
is normally needed by the body to maintain normal
activities, in turn, does lead to weight gain," Cefalu said.
And excess weight is a significant risk factor for type 2
diabetes, as well as many heart disease risk factors.
“At the end of the day, drinking water is the best form of
hydration for all people— with or without diabetes.”

Which of these additives may raise the risk of
cancer?
(a) Disodium inosinate
(found in instant noodles, potato chips)
(b) Calcium propionate
(found in bread, baked goods, dairy)
(c) Sodium nitrite
(found in cured meats and poultry, etc.)
(d) Potassium sorbate
(found in dried fruit, wine, dairy)
(e) Fumaric acid
(found in beverages and baking powder)
(a) Inosinato disódico
Answer: C, sodium nitrite
This may explain why people who eat more bacon,
sausages, and other cured meats have a higher risk of
colon cancer. Meats "without added nitrates or non-
nitrates" always contain some nitrates contained in the
powder of celery or juice. The other additives are safe.
Quick Check-up
